Official DBZ: Budokai 3 Thread

With Piccolo, pokes are now a huge part of my strategy. Too bad Goku and Uub got screwed on the poke game, though. I love pokes because as Sprawlers said, the recovery time is so fast that you can keep doing it to annoy your opponent.

How is the upcoming tier list going?

Ok, I just have a few questions to ask you guys about Budokai 3:

Heres a FAQ from Gamefaqs Reguarding Kid Buu please translate this page for me these are the Combos ranging from Beginnger to Hard ( WARNING: THIS MAY LOOKED EXTREMLY LONG TOO YOU!) So just skip down to what you want to know.

VII: Basic Combos

You now know Kid Buu’s basic controls. But now, I shall give you some combos i
have come up with. These are in no way his only combos, and i have catagorized
them by level of difficulty to do.

For the this section and the next two, these combos were done with Breakthrough
equipped

<-P<-P^ PPPPE 7 hits 719 damage.

<-P+K^ P->PPPPE 7 hits 931 damage.

<-P<-P^ ->P+K* PPPPE 11 hits 922 damage.

VIII: Intermediate Combos

Now on to combos that incorporate cancels and stuns. These are medium
difficulty
combos to pull off, since there is no need to worry about juggles yet.

KKKK- ->PKK- PPPPE 12 hits 1002 damage.

->P+K* ->PKK- ->KKK->KKE 13 hits 1058 damage.

KKKK- ->P+K* ->PKK- ->KKK->KKE 17 hits 1252 damage

KKKK- ->P+K* ->PKK- P->PPPPE 17 hits 1412 damage.

Hard Combos

>P+K*(WALK A LITTLE BIT FORWARD) PPPP>P* >PKK- (SIDESTEP) KKKK- <P+K^
PPPPP^ >PPPPP E (Vanishing Ball) 1780 Damage

PPPP>P* >PKK- (SIDESTEP) KKKK- <P+K^ PPPPP^ >PPPPP E (Vanishing Ball)
1750 Damage

>P+K* >PKK- (SIDESTEP) KKKK- <P+K^ PPPPP^ >PPPPP E (Vanishing Ball)
1720 Damage
cml64

->p,k,k- ->p+k* k,k,k,k- ->k,k,k,>k,k* p,p,p,p,->p* <p,<p^ <p,<p^ >p,p,p,p,e
1800 damage

Sk84cash’s

>PKK-(sidestep), KKKK-, >P+K*, PPPP>P*, >KKK>KK*, PPPPP^, >PPPPE [Vanishing
Ball] 1900 damage

Goryu and Mike D’s

(>p,k,k-)(>p+k) (walk a little bit foward) (k,k,k,k-
)^(p,p,p,p,>p)(>k,k,k,>k,k)(<p,>k)^(>p,p,>p,p,p,p)^(>p,p,p,p,e) 1750 damage

Combo finishers
(pppp>p)(>pkk-sidestep)(kkkk-)(>p+k)(>kkk>kkk) (taunt) 1250 damage

(pppp>p)(>pkk-sidestep)(kkkk-)(>p+k)(>kkk>kk)*(<p<p)^(ppppe) Kamehameha 1550
damage

(pppp>p)(>pkk-sidestep)(kkkk-)(>p+k)(>kkk>kk)*(<p+k)^(>pppe) Vanishing ball
1750 damage

Ok know My question was What does all this ppp>p mean what does the “>” mean. or another example is “<-P<-P^ ->P+K* PPPPE 11 hits 922 damage” what the hell does “<-p<-p” mean or “->P+K*” mean please tell me and tranlate this if you can thanks a bunch.

Is this thing dead?

->P = tap foward and punch at the same time
<-P = tap back and punch at the same time
->P+K = tap foward, punch and kick at the same time

  • =not sure check the faq’s it might mean “cancel”

It’d be cool if we got up some good old “Good Match Up and Bad Match Up” details. Of course with a game like this, it may not be as simple as it sounds. I really wonder who Piccolo would have trouble with? It may all boil down to the skill of the player.

Most of the users who play the game at a high level came up with a universal symbol system.

<- OR < = Input back motion at the same time you input the next
-> OR > = Input forward motion at the same time you input the next

  • = Cancel
    ^ = Juggle
    () = Parentheses, used for separating single chains for easier reading

So (->PKK-) (KKKK-) (<-PP^) (PPP->P) (G + Down + Down) would translate to

(Forward punch kick, cancel the next kick). (Kick, kick, kick, cancel the next kick). (Back punch, another punch which will be a juggle launcher). (Punch punch punch forward punch). (Taunt/Use Item)

K thnx man also do you have a tier list of some sort. I think this game has really big potential and should have videos.

For a tier list, just scope the first page of this thread, very first post. However, that really isn’t the final list, just the current one.

Its gonna be awhile before we finally have a complete tier list.

This is some info on Goten I shared with my buddies on GameFAQs. No matter what kind of character you use, this is some very valuable info, especially since you can use this to your advantage, and if its used against you, you’ll be prepared.

I was using Goten, playing with one of my buddies who was using Omega. I did far better obviously, but we found some interesting things in the process! We were both using breakthrough, and I stayed at base form to give him a chance.

Ok, omega Shenron’s ->->K is that punting kick. I dash into it, dodge it, dash again, and somehow end up behind him! Free TC? Why thank you.

Goten’s charge is spent jumping SKY high. In fact, thats the first thing that happened. Every time my buddy used a starter and I managed to outpredict him with charge, Goten would jump over it, dodging it and ram into O. Shenron. What was even better was that he TCed but he couldn’t catch me, so he wasted alot of ki in the process.

You know, this can completely mess up playing a long range game against Goten. I like it ^.^

The smaller the character means the less chance there is of the charge landing. So Goten’s strategies revolve around what kind of character he is fighting.

Goten just jumps over the attack. when they screen is black, his opponent is frozen still, and Goten jumps up. Good stuff.

Actually, that should be Goten’s main weakness IMO. The fact that he relies on special matches to get such advantages. Goten pretty much has Omega Shenron done for, but what about Teen Gohan? Goten is going to have a much easier time dealing with Dabura (I won’t say Piccolo yet) than he will against Kid Goku or Teen Gohan. It’ll be easier for him to fight Cell than Trunks.

Edit: Forgot to mention, charge is a level 2 death move, and the only way to dodge it is to either sidestep, or be out of Goten’s line of charging. Blocking it is impossible, as the attack negates the block. Getting hit usually results in a range of 400-500 damage.

I am starting to play this with a friend of mine that owns the game and I have a question. How do you deal with a person who mashes to get their counter out everytime you try to attack? I have a hard time trying to fight on the offensive because every move I make is countered.

Heh. Funny.

What character is your friend using?

Remember that the counter move consumes normally 3 ki bars. So soon, he’ll be out of ki, and can not counter. Counter his counters. If you and your friend are even in the amount of times you two can teleport counter, then you will win if he is the first to spam a teleport counter. You know how to do teleport counter cancels, right?

So once he teleport counters you, teleport counter him back, cancel it, and combo his ass.

He uses Gokou. I realize that the counter consumes ki, but for some strange reason I can’t capitalize. I know you can counter a counter as well, but I can’t seem to get the timing down. Maybe ill buy this game and learn the mechanics.

Don’t expect to master the mechanics quickly. Even though I’ve been combo canceling, using stuns and juggles since B1, I still have to get better with B3’s new mechanics. I need to step up on the competition, but there’s hardly any nearby.

Not too long ago, I discovered the importance of a poke game. And then I found it possible to play wake up games if you launch a good power attack that allows you to play wake-ups. I’m gonna have to look at the latter more, since I only recently found out that wake-ups are very well possible.

how do you cancel?

how do you exactly execute the command?

appreciate

This guide is for Budokai 2. But however, the mechanics behind the combos and all of the mechanics behind combos have remained the same. So this guide will apply, and it does the job well.

This guide made by me, covers the basic mechanics of Budokai 3, and goes over the advanced mechanics and some strategies of high level Budokai 3 gameplay.

Have fun reading.

Wake-ups ARE possible in B3? Sweet mother, that’s great news!!

Goten’s Charge cannot be blocked? Innnnteresting. Reminds me of Recoome’s Recoome Kick. That sucker cannot even be side-stepped.

And Piccolo is the king of poke games. :rock:

^props to sprawlers

one

can any1 give any cancel combos of Adult and Teen Gohans

What’s the big deal wit cancels, you can’t use it in the fight anyway??

Grateful

Cancels are pretty much ways to end your combos in a way that you can’t get immediately attacked afterward. If you launch a cancel that lands, you can do whatever you want after it.

For Teen Gohan, all I know is KKKK(cancel)
Gohan has ->PKK and KKKK. I haven’t used him all too much, so I don’t know much more.

foreal, sprawlers is the truth!

thanx for looking out for newbies like me
