Oh and Reggie, could you edit the first post and put the tier list there just for easy viewing? Thanks.
Wow, this is a surprisingly deep game. It seems to have “hidden depth” on par with SSBM. I’ve just started playing, but I’ve got a few of the combo cancelling techniques down. What are some good capsules for Gohan?
Gohan (Teen & Adult) are capable of some good capsule-set ups. Teen Gohan’s best set-ups revolve around his SSJ2 due to his Soaring Dragon Strike, which simply kicks ass. Both forms have two great capsules:
Mixed Blood Power
Meditation
Mixed Blood Power adds 8% to attack and defence, and meditation reduces ki usage by 1/3rd. Dende’s Recvoery is also a great defence capsule, and unlike Piccolo’s Regen from B2, ki is not used up as you take hits, so its like a 2-slot armour at the cost of 1 slot.
Here is a glitch all Budokai 3 players who want to play this at a competitive level should know:
Omega Shenron’s Evil Grin is a ki reducing capsule that takes 2 slots. It’s been recently discovered that this capsule can be equipped. . .TWICE! Its not as powerful as meditation, but the baseline ki sure makes it as good as it. It’s been considered a glitch because there is no other equipment capsule you can equip twice. Because its something O. Shenron only has, (if everyone else had it, then it would be counted) its not counted in his tier ranking.
Done and done.
Yeah, DBZ: B3 was easily one of my fav fighting games of 2004. I’d love to see it at EVO '05 but I don’t think many will take the game seriously enough for it to happen.
And Sprawlers, thanks for the mention about Dende’s recovery. I thoguht it worked the same as it did in B2 so I thought it was worthless to equip.
So Uub is move up, huh? Cool. NExt to Kid Goku, he is probably my fav short character to use. Any chance Krillin will move up as well?
Sprawlers… that Omega shenron information is EVIL EVIL EVIL!!!
:china: :china: :china:
Give the game some time. Its only been a few months since its release. (more like 4-5, but who gives a damn) Once high level match vids have been put up, and more people know of the hidden depth, it’ll be more accepted as a fighter.
Yeah, I’m having a lot of fun with this one. I’m pretty terrible at the cancels ( i can’t do those KKKK charge cancels worth a dime), but I’m trying! It’s probably because this game doesn’t follow a strict combo “formula” as much as other games like GGXX and the Vs. Series. Thanks for all your help!
I was playing some matches the other day at a buddie’s place. Two guys that aren’t really fans of the series really like the game. One dude in particular, Justin, is very good at fighting games. I was Piccolo going against Cell and I had to work pretty hard to get the win. I just barely won. Dude was up to bar on his TC and TTC. :wow:
I’ve been working on the cancelling a little today. So far, I can only do about 2 in a single combo. Oh well. I would like to thank Goryus for making that combo video and setting me on the right track
Speaking of him anyone seen him around lately? Hes disapeared. Would be cool to see him contribute more stuff to the game.
Do you know how to play a perfect range game with Piccolo?
Not in the least. As good as this guy was, I’m not sure if even my poke game would have worked on him.
Well if you can’t play a perfect range game at the least, how can you expect to be able to poke someone effectively?
Use yakon on Cell. Denies him his energy field.
I try not to use Yakon, really. If I had used that, my sync with Nail would have been gone. As for the pokes, I’m still learning with a lot of the fighters and I figured since this guy is well above average skill in fighting games, my pokes could ahve been TCed easily.
Speaking of TC the person who usually teleports first is usually the one to lose the TC battle, right? Of course I think skills like Meditation may be the exception to that rule.
Pokes = TC bait. Repeat single uses of ->P with Piccolo. Awesome recovery, excellent speed, great range. If he TCs, you might even be able to grab him before he even attacks.
There’s a slight lag time between the recovery of TCing and actually attacking. Thats when a grab can be successful.
As long as two opponents are even in the amount of times in TCing, the first one to TC will lose the battle, unless they use it specifically for defence.
Actually, there are two different types of pokes used in the game.
Standard Pokes: These are like your pokes from the Capcom fighters. Safe attacks that have quick recovery. Standard pokes are great in this game, and are perfect for TC bait.
Combo Pokes: Some characters do not have effective long range pokes that are executed with single buttons. Most characters rely on a long range starter followed by a bunch of hits. Fast and quick combo cancels are pokes that everyone has, but they bring people into close range combat (usually) and can sometimes be effective TC bait, and sometimes not,
Sprawlers do you ever get to play this game with any high level players? Just curious.
I’m thinking of starting some of my fighters over in Dragon Arena mode. Goku is at level 72 but I think I put too many of his points into Arts. Same with Kid Buu.
Every once in awhile, yeah. Nnamz gets it often. He wins all of his tourneys using Piccolo, and he’s dealt with people who used Kid Buu and Omega Shenron. He’s proved that a perfect range game is very difficult to counter unless you’re using the right characters.
I’ll see if I can get him to record some matches.
That would rock to see some matches of this game.
I started Piccolo over fresh in DA mode. I really see why he is a top tier character. His pokes are arguablly second to none. He’s only got two transformations, which cuts down on capsule space and that’s a big plus in my book. The guys I play B3 with only know of Piccolo’s fierceness through the anime series so I’ll play his skills to my advantage at least until they finally see how much of a bad mother her really is. I just need to find the right capsule set up for him.
Meditation my very well be a top tier skill in this game It helps out a lot but I just wish it didn’t eat up two spaces. For someone like Krillin who only has one Transformation, it rocks to use it with him but it almost seems like a no-no for Goku. Then again if there is a capsule set up to make Goku as powerful or near as powerful as he in in his SS4 state, I’d love to see it. But then, I have no problem just going up to SS2 with Goku.
Poke attacks rock. I was using them on the AI, and they went crazy
Most poke attacks are simply P. Others like Vegeta might have a PP as effective pokes.
Pokes have decent range, and excellent recovery. In fact, sometimes the rcovery is so quick that you can repeat poke after poke and only limit the enemy to using certain starters.
Piccolo’s only pokes are his ->P->PP chain. So you can switch between pressing it once, twice or thrice. His other moves are too slow to be pokes. But his <-K has an instant recovery and good range, so its nice if you want somebody to attack.
