“You gotta say something about Marmol, but you gotta give it to Lilly, I guess.”

I know Phillies won today, but goddamn have they been turning on the suck lately.
Damn my 2 game winning streak was snapped, and I could of had 3 if I actually PAID attention to fantasy.

How Yuni Betancourt helped keep Strasburg from Seattle
Of all the players who lasted long enough with the Seattle Mariners to get 2,000 at-bats, Yuniesky Betancourt was worse at getting on base (.302) than everybody else except Jim Presley and Jose Lopez. But it wasn’t enough for Yuni to be bad to haunt Seattle fans. The one time he happened to actually be good also will haunt them. He helped cost the Mariners Strasburg.
Seattle had Strasburg nearly locked up on the penultimate day of the 2008 season. At 59-101, the Mariners held a half-game lead over Washington (59-100) for the worst record in baseball and the right to pick Strasburg the next June. They controlled their fate. With a magic number of two, any combination of Seattle losses or Nationals wins totaling two would bring Strasburg to Seattle.
That’s when Yuni decided to hit like a young Ken Griffey Jr… He went 5-for-7 with a walk, two runs and two RBI to lead the Mariners to 7-3 and 4-3 wins over Oakland. The Nationals clinched the Strasburg sweepstakes by losing two games to Philadelphia.
Those two otherwise meaningless Seattle wins changed baseball history. It could be one of the most costly “collapses” ever to end a season. The Mariners would be looking at a rotation today with Felix Hernandez, Cliff Lee and Strasburg. Instead, with the second pick of the 2009 draft, they took Dustin Ackley, thought to be the best college bat in the draft. Ackley, 22, has hit one home run in Double-A, though he does have a .402 OBP.
Betancourt has gone on to be even worse for Kansas City (.288 OBP).
Thanks a lot, Betancourt.
Not that it would have mattered right now. Strasburg still wouldn’t get run support from this team.
Why don’t you believe in the pitching and the defense?
WHY?
oh right.
Even if we had him he would of left sooner or later.
Remember Seattle had
Randy Johnson
A-Rod
Griffery
All of them in their prime. Well A-Rod wasn’t exactly in his prime, but he was reaching it when he was with the M’s.
Seattle has become Freeattle the last few years.
Pittsburgh owns that title thank you very much. In fact we should rename Pittsburgh to Freeattle because it really is the pits there.
oh god what is this abomination
I’m glad the Giants are picking it up both last year and this year. Something to watch finally.
Great starting pitching along with an excellent bullpen which picks itself up from injuries and cold streaks, and just enough GOOD batters now, eg Torres, Sanchez, Huff, and probably Posey, meaning we can sit Rowand and Molina now. (PLEASE!) I really hate these guys that go up there with very stupid approaches at the plate.
Rowand is the prime example because he is behind in the count SO OFTEN because he swings the bat at too many pitches meaning he will be inconsistent with an OBP that is about the same as his batting average.
Nate Schierholtz and Torres are much better fielders than Rowand can every hope to be. We should stick with Nate and hope he can improve at the plate, we already know Rowand is a turd.
i think johnatan sanchezs world is going to explode pretty soon
dude started the year good but he can’t strike out anyone anymore and his walks are skyrocketing.
also he’s horrible with runners on base. not sure if its pitching from the stretch or worrying too much about them that messes him up
Jonathan Sanchez:
13 games, 5-5, 2.78 ERA, 1.15 WHIP(top 20), 81.0 IP(top 50), 77 SOs (top 25), .202 batting average against (top 5)
Weakness of Giants Starting pitching : Stolen Bases allowed (see Cain, Lincecum, Sanchez, Zito, all listed in top 20 or so).
Strength: Innings Pitched.
NOT bad for a 4th pitcher, especially considering when the playoffs comes, it’s Lincecum, Cain, and Zito. Sanchez is doing a good job and would be a top 3 pitcher on many teams.
PS His last three games he’s had no more than 2 walks per game. It was at the end of may where he had back to back terrible starts. Against cincy he had a bad start, 7 hits…
He’s a fourth pitcher, I like him there.
yea the games he doesn’t give up a lot of walks instead he gives up a lot of hits. i like him but i’m thinking he’ll crash soon since he’s been lucky on his FB/HR rate which pitching a ton in SD and SF helps a lot
also why does halladay suck so much. i’m going to lose in fantasy this week because of him
Josh Johnson - 7ip, 1ER, 4 H, 1 walk, 7k
Halladay - 6 IP, 6ER, 2 Walks, 8 Hits, 5K
halladay isn’t even in josh johnsons league like pitching wise since he is in the nl east with him and that is ocnsidered a league. but outside of that they got nothing in common
Dem prospects.
imo.
Can we all agree that if Baltimore lights up Lincecum today he should retire?
Damn yo is ubaldo ever going to come back down to earth.
Mets are a half game out of first… yay.
5walks in 1.2 IP against the blue jays IMO
Do you mean the team that’s 28th in the league in OBP, those Blue Jays?
Yeah, not so good.
josh johnson please stop
we get it
you’re the best pitcher ever invented
stop making the same point start after start
He kinda looks like a muppet Goose Gossage lmao. And yet the Philly mascot is popular, their mascot should just be a dude in a big foam knife shaped suit that goes around stabbing people in the crowd.
I still haven’t gotten to see Josh Johnson pitch, since I don’t have cable. I should try to stream a game sometime, if that’s even possible. I know MLB tries real hard to keep that shit on lock.
