We’re about a week and a half from the next league tournament (4/20 smoke day). Can I get someone to commit to bringing a copy of CCC2? As always, I’ll tow a PS2 and Anniversary Edition so the 3s fans can get their casuals fix. Zach, should I bring my DC, or my converters? I’ll even bring a copy of Jojo’s, since I heard some people talking about that game the night Chunk was over. Bring sticks, people. Bad things happen when not enough working sticks are at a gaming event.
There will be 2 or 3 working Dreamcasts this time. I’m hoping that with a 9PM start time for Marvel, we’ll be able to wrap it up before midnight. If it goes past 1PM, I’ll shoot myself, or the nearest other Asian.
A side note, I’m changing the ST format to adhere to the EVO rules of character selection. If we’re prepping for EVO, might as well use their guidelines. You’re free to pick whichever character you want for ST, so long as you didn’t just win a game in the current set. Why they do it this way as opposed to the Japanese tournament formats, I have no idea.
Also, 4/20 will also be the last time that we randomly pair players. Due to player demand, starting the tournament AFTER 4/20, the top of the bracket will be seeded by league point totals. So if you’re a cellar dweller [like me], attend this tournament! After this, you’ll have a higher chance of being paired against a beast early on. And if you’re a high level player, keep your ranking high to prevent having to wade through a vicious branch of the bracket. Whatever the case, SHOW UP! ON TIME!!!
I haven’t posted much recently, and I’ve also been caught up in non-gaming related things. Also, with Wenzel revisiting his ubermensch roots, I haven’t played marvel since the first Friday that Chunk was in town. I’ll take the advice of some Portlanders from the last tournament, and give this shit some hype. Get pumped! If you have smack to lay, or challenges to issue, expectations of recommendations, let other know by posting it here. Here are some questions that I pray will be answered at the next tournament:
-
Will Jmar, Row, and Kuan all show up at the same tournament for the first time this year? I’ve never seen them play each other in person before. I’ve also never see Kuan play at all (save for the 2002 EVO t8 footage).
-
Will I get paired against Justin Wong, or one of the aforementioned beasts in the first bracket?
-
Who will reign supreme as the worst Marvel player in Seattle? Chris has laid claim to the title that Frank and I have been jockeying for. Newcomer Kuenai also threw down the gauntlet last time that I saw him, will he attend and make good on his threat?
-
Can the Seattle scene get itself back into shape in time for EVO, after being sold out by Cody the Betrayer for the price of 2200 hours of his soul in the blissful realm of FFOnline? This scene put 4 players in the top 8 at the first EVO. We have been in a downward spiral since then, culminating in Cody’s defeat by Duc Jr. last year. How can we stop our decline and redeem our competitive edge?*
-
Is there no justice in the world? Cody currently leads all point totals in Marvel. The betrayer now mocks us.
-
Will my alternate arcade stick finally be fixed? sniff
-
Can Portland dominate us in Marvel like they schooled us at 3s last time?
-
Look at my sig. That was one of the many memorable moments from the last gaming session at Zach’s which I attended. If you’ve never been to Zach’s before, do you want to keep missing out?
*this one’s actually rather simple. we just need to start playing, and playing a lot. people need to come out [not quite Squirtle style] to these events so that we can develop again as a community. you can only learn so much by going to training mode or playing the same friends, no matter how good those friends are.
