NW Competitive Fighting Game League "Season One" Results Thread

The season had concluded. This thread will remain for people to comment. I’ll leave the body of this particular post intact in case anyone wanted to reflect or reference the details inside. The complete attendance and placements results can be found in Microsoft Excel format at this Rapidshare link. Thanks to all for participating.

Due to the aversion that some harbor towards the Japanese perversion of a certain amalgamated English word, we’ll be holding “league” events every other Friday at Preppy’s in conjunction with poker night. Look at this thread if you don’t know how to get there. Please be mindful that this is a private residence (and the preeminent gathering of NW fighting game talent) so observe rule #4 with care. Please use this thread for all league related activity and trash talking so as not to spam the poker thread.

There will always be a MvC2 cab and 2 dreamcasts. However, I urge anyone who is able to bring PS2’s along with copies of CCC2 to do so. Also, bring sticks, people! Zach only has 3 sticks, and you don’t want to play on my home-mades. Tournaments need to be held in a timely fashion. If you don’t like the sticks on the console you’re assigned to, you’re obligated to bring your own.

The final tournaments of the season will be at Zach’s on 7/13. This season runs through mid-July. This is in preparation for EVO West. $5 entry fee will be collected for MvC2, and $1 for ST. The format will be 2/3 double elimination with 3/5 for all winner/loser finals matches, and 4/7 for the grand finals. MvC2 will start at 9PM, and ST can get underway at 11PM. Please show up a little ahead of time for registration. Late entrants will be accepted if they pay the full entry fee, but will have to start in the loser’s bracket. There will be a 70/20/10 split at every event. In addition, points will be given for placement at each event (though bragging rights seem to be the only award come the end of the season). Point breakdown will be as follows:

1st Place - 10 Points
2nd Place - 7 Points
3rd Place - 5 Points
4th Place - 3 Points
5th Place(s) - 1 point

Winners in MvC2 must keep the same characters, assists, and order during the same match. Players must play the same character in ST if they won the previous game in the same match.

A measly 9 showed up for the inaugural Marvel event last night. Wither art thou? Row, Rat, Mark, and numerous others. I know you don’t have lives, don’t lie! The following 6 earned points towards inflating their egos:

I’m posting the details under a separate entry as the primary post will be updated to reflect the atmosphere as the season progresses. I wanted to be able to note each event’s memorable parts. This week saw:

Jmar showing that he has collected no rust
More of Mandel’s black rage
Reluctance of some to play on the arcade version
Northwesterners’ shock at having to start on time
Cody hit an all time low (losing one game to me)
Frankdadank* seriously challenging my title as “Worst Marvel Player in Seattle”

*Sorry Frank. The very fact that you’re even mentioned in the Team Scodolfy video puts your game on a whole other echelon from mine.

more ppl need to come out, i know there are more marvel ppl that 9. Also Keith is not joking about running this ON TIME. Which is a good thing let’s try to get ppl there on time so poker won’t start so late! Great tournament Keith I plan on going to the next one.

Another observation about this week’s tournament: everyone played their training partners. I suppose this is to be expected with such a low turnout. It was still odd though. Evan was matched up against both Nolan and myself, while Cody squared off against Mandel.

I think the uncontested crown for worst marvel player in seattle goes to Ploomer, hands down.

I’m really glad these matches weren’t taped. I’ll try to tone down Afro Rage next time. Just make sure stupid shit doesn’t happen and we’ll be okay.

The black rage can be your defining characteristic. Never ever change who you are. Without your niche, you’ll just be another face rather than a name. I used to be the loud, obnoxious Asian guy. Then I moved here and realized that the role was already taken by Kyle in the Seattle scene. I’m currently the worst player in Seattle, but Frank wants to steal that from me. Soon, I’ll just be another random asian dude.

Speaking of which, does anyone know Kyle’s SRK? His handwriting was wholly illegible on the signup sheet. I’d like to properly credit him in the rankings, but I really can’t make out what he put in the “SRK Name” field.

While that’s true about the black rage, it doesn’t help me in any fashion. After being so upset I just wanna punch something but I can’t so it just leaves me extremely upset for a long period of time. It’s pretty fuckin weak I think.
