I don’t really care. I prefer Marvel and poker, and 3S, CvS2, SSF2T are just amusing diversions. So if people want to do stuff with the other games, that works, but yeah I felt bad for the Portland peoples. I’m looking forward to getting that damned 3S board. =\

I would have loved to show up, but I work full-time and I’m not exactly zach’s next door neighbor. Shit, getting to gw isn’t even that fucking easy. Leaving at 11:30 and getting home at like 2 or 2:30 in the morning then working first thing the next day is kind of a bitch.

If we didn’t play 3s because it wasn’t popular, then by that logic we shouldn’t bother with fighting games on the whole since the death of arcades.

Listen, I understand ALL TO WELL how hard it is to get transportation around. Shit, I was fucking 15 years old when I started getting into the scene…you see that 15 fucking years old. I didn’t make it to lots of tournies because of the fact that I didn’t have a ride…but I did what I could ya know. The thing is that I NEVER ONCE blamed other people. I understand that it’s hard to get transportatoin…especially for where we live…yet the fact remains that we DO WHAT WE CAN. Shit I used to ride the fucking COMMUNITY TRANSIT bus all the way to Lanwerx…i’d stay at a friends, then ride the bus back…main point? Do what you can dude, don’t be angry that you couldn’t make it…people aren’t making allegations towards YOU alone. Mandel and Zach are right…Seattle did not fucking man up. PDX even came down here…for 3s primarily…however the fact is, if THEY can get here…and you guys can’t? Come on now…do I NEED to say it? Man up nigga!
Secondarily this is NOT a set in stone thing. I’m sure that if your able to get enough interest in 3s, and that you have GURANTEE’S on people that are going to enter, then i’m sure tournies will be held for this game. For instance, I had every intention on entering the tournament…I was BROKE as a mother fucker…even pleading to Kyle “PLEASE!!! 1 dOLLAR GAMES of THIRTEEN!” I was poor as hell…unfortunately I couldn’t enter. Well, nobody was really shitting on Seattle 3S players. People stated that they were disappointed by the lack of turnout. I don’t recall anything bad being used against them. It’s pretty puzzling to see so many people at GW and so many people enter at Loki’s yet how many entered at Zach’s?? I know there was more people at Loki’s than at Zach’s which makes me feel even worse for the PDX 3S players. As far as the whole “hard to get there thing”, I’m not trying to make myself seem holier than thou, but if you really wanted to come you would’ve. I mean back in high school, (this is either gonna sound tight, dedicated, or nerdy, it’s your choice) I had to take three, THREE buses to make it to a Southcenter tourney that started at noon. I wanted to see where I stood among everyone else while trying to improve/learn at the sametime.
Now that I think about it, that makes what happen to me in Marvel matches even fuckin dumber if you think about it. It’s like reverse luck or something, like someone casted confuse on my joystick and it causes retarded shit to happen.
I loved your post and if I hadn’t repped you beforehand, you will receive rep soon hahah. Also I dunno if you saw my offer on the page before this, but my offer was if you got back into Marvel, that I’d get back into CvS2. How’s that sound?! The sight of me playing CvS2 should be one for the ages!

It is a combination of time, and screens. Had the issue with the converters not come up last time, 3s would not have had a screen while Marvel was running. I myself can’t run multiple events at the same time. Running between the rooms to find people to tell them that they’re on deck for one game on 2 or 3 setups is tasking enough. Factor in how people sometimes refuse to wait on deck or refuse to play on a setup. Or people just show up late like last week so that 3s would have had to be run concurrently or WAY after Marvel (thanks again to whomever ran the 3s brackets last time).
As I stated previously, this is not meant as a slight to 3s players. I would still love to hold events for them, but I wouldn’t feel right listing “sometime after 3AM” as the start time for a game that’s still one of the two most popular in the U.S. right now. ST is fine, since it’s quick, sort of random, and only $1 to play. So you’d probably get more casual entrants–like myself–for ST.
This is not to say that 3s players are unwelcome for casuals. I will continue to bring my PS2 and Anniversary Edition to poker nights. Nor am I implying that once the cab is setup, someone else can’t just run a tournament there. If someone wants to continue 3s tournaments (once the cab is working), I’d be more than happy to maintain the rankings. Just know that I myself am not competent enough to run multiple events concurrently, and there are not enough resources/time right now to do that. Given the size of the Marvel contingent, whatever number of TVs we have, they should all be devoted to MvC2 during the tournament.
As soon as the next poker night is announced, I’ll update the main post in this thread. Right now, I’m guessing that it’ll be 4/6 if Zach sticks to the 1st and 3rd Fridays.
Again, it was not my intention to slight the 3s players. I can’t run multiple events at the same time. There are currently not enough screens to run multiple events at the same time. Even if 3s had started on time last time, in retrospect, there was no way it would have gotten done before Marvel was supposed to get started.
This is not because 3s is unpopular, but is partly because Marvel is FAR more popular. With less than 24 hours warning last time, Marvel had about the same turnout as 3s this week had with a 2+ week advanced notice. And 1/2 of the 3s people were Portlanders showing their hardcore roots. There is absolutely no question that Marvel is the preferred game in this area, and the game that we have the best chance at for a strong showing at EVO (what the league was supposed to be about in the first place).
Much love to the PDX. Thanks again for coming out last time. As stated earlier in this post, 3s is not dead here. Even 3s tournaments are not necessarily out of the question once the cab is up and running–if someone else runs it. Though we were supposed to be playing console versions to prep for EVO, gaming is still fun.

As for 3s, yeah, I’ll be disappointed if it gets permanently kicked from the official roster, but seeing as the sign up sheet had exactly 3 names on it when 8 pm rolled around I can’t really come up with a convincing argument against doing so if it’s interfering with stuff that has actual participants (if it’s a matter of TVs, I can drag my crappy one over as long as there’s room somewhere. 3s on the front patio?) Much respect to the Oregon folks that came up and made it at least viable. Really wish that some of the people that were at Loki’s could have been there. I’ll admit that I felt a faint glimmer of hope there in losers, but Anthony just dialed into my wack shit way too quick. Gotta up my ‘hopelessly trapped in the corner’ game. Uh, sorry that the grand finals ended up being something you could have done back home.
I dunno if my going 2 and out in ST was more dissapointing, or when Andrew beat my pocket Kings with pocket 4’s getting the three of a kind on the fucking RIVER when I was all-in. By the way the flop and the turn were all overcards, I have no idea what kind of logic he was “using” to stay in that hand, god I hate poker so badly.
We didn’t do that - we had it and generally will have it as long as it’s announced and there’s more than 4 people. This is all pretty low key - we’re just figuring out how to make things work.

As far as cvs2 and you go…shoot man, I think that your pretty good at the game…If I remember correctly you and I played in tournament once or twice…I think you know matchups fairly well. All in all, I’d definitely like to see you get back into cvs2, unless of course your not having fun with it…That’d be cool man…

I’m still 17, I live with my (extremely overprotective/bitchy) mom up in MV. I’ve only made it to maybe three events down there. Not a single one this year! If your’e willing to pay a little for gas money, I’d be more than happy to drive you to Zach’s place the next event. If I can carpool, it’d make things much easier, as I have a car but little to no gas money until I get another job.
I’ve never had an easy time finding competition in my area, let alone get an hour and a half away each event with a car that’s gonna crap out on me at any time now. Yet I haven’t been getting all pissy about it. I gotta say, I was kinda with you in the beginning about not being here to make friends, but the guys here are all pretty damned cool once you get to talking to them. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly and supportive group, and I happily put in as much effort as I can to get to the events with or without transportation.
If your work schedule is so hard, then just get what rest you can and come out to events when it’s convenient! 3s is MY GAME. I suck at mvc2 and cvs2, though I love 'em, yet there are no big 3s players around me besides Paul for at least 45 minutes in any direction.
Sometimes you just gotta take it in stride and accept that in your current situation, you just can’t get deep into competition. Have fun practicing at home or the arcade until you can make it to the events you want to go to. 2d fighting games aren’t enough reason to get stressed out. Live a little :lovin: Read a book.
