I gotta say I had lots of fun, it was great watching the top players. I myself didnt perform as good as I wished, basically losing every match lol I just might take the worst player title.
In MVC2 I can safely say I was the worst player there, I had no chance of winning against anyone.
3S I did alright but I made some mistakes that I realized after the match.
ST I got lucky and won one match against Val’s Vega(claw) but he still won the other two, I had some trouble doing vertical ball’s so I ended up jumping into vega’s super throw a few times. And then there was that mirror match against Ondres lol.
Clearly you missed Allen nearly perfecting me twice, at least I got one of Kyle’s characters each time but he was probably sandbagging :wonder: You guys are welcome for the free wins. It was cool entering just to have something to do, didn’t want to wait for 3S and poker all night and I want Keith’s “worst player” title.
I felt like “pulling a Mandel” after I lost to you in the ST tournament on Val’s stick. I’m sure it’s a good stick since he was beasting on people in 3S but I could literally not do anything until I changed to my own old ghetto stick on my second matchup against that Vega using guy (don’t remember his name).
Sorry, didn’t mean to offend. I joke around with familiar individuals but sometimes forget that those who don’t know me might take it the wrong way. No umbrage was intended. I have the utmost respect for you and your game.
Keep in mind that had things gone according to plan, the downstairs TV would have been running Marvel as well. We had an issue with the converters. So once Marvel gets rolling, if 3s hadn’t wrapped up already, it would have had no place. Or, 3s would have slowed Marvel to the pace of last night.
The problem with skipping onto another match is that when someone refuses to play on a particular setup, people pretty much only raise the issue when it’s actually their turn. By then, it takes even more time to go find people from another match somewhere in the house, and get them to play on that setup (usually then occupied for some casuals by then) in a timely manner. This was partly the issue that Allen (Trance_Emotion) had with me (I’m guessing) when I was threatening DQ (empty threat since I wouldn’t DQ my opponent while I’m running the event itself–and he read me) when he wouldn’t play on the cab against me. The loser’s bracket had narrowed down to only 2 possible matches (the other one was technically further ahead in the bracket AND I had no idea where the players were), and the winner’s finals (longer 3/5 match) JUST gotten underway in the living room. Rob and I were also about to combine brackets since we were so far along.
I’m gonna PM Zach about the sticks on his cab. I have a theory as to how to improve the conditions. Personally, I think they work. Whenever I fuck up, I blame my sorry ass, not the sticks.
Gotta show up for 3 weeks before your claim to fame.
Alright guys…If i can find my damn memory card…I’ll try to start practicing again. It’s to bad no one in this scene takes interest in cvs2 any more =( looks like I’ll have to get into marvel…
To Mandel: I’m sorry things didn’t turn out man. You were definitely heated…literally, when you put your arm on my shoulder…i could feel the heat on you man…I’m sorry that you didn’t do as well as you should have. Try to remember though that with frustration comes more losses. I know how hard it is to control the anger (I used to have the same problem in cvs2). I know that things will get better man…just keep going at it
anthony played ken and val played akuma, i filmed one of the grand final matches i’ll put it up somewhere soon and let you guys know anyway i wanted to thank preppy for having us and all you guys seem really cool, it was a nice scene to discover for me although your 3s croud was hella small. wtf?
Apology accepted Chris, it’s fine. I forgot that it hasn’t really been THAT long since you started showing up a lot so I definitely can’t hold that against you. :wgrin:
You know what? That’s the stick I used when I played Ondrej in 3S and I had issues with it as well. Just a weird stick to get used to imo. But yeah I was surprised when I beat you because you were bukkake beasting my Chun Li the whole time before the tourney. But nevertheless I’m down to donate to your ST savings fund hahah. I’ll pm you my number because more Super Turbo is needed no lie.
Yeah man like…I’ve had my crazy outbursts where I’ve socked cabinets and all that, but I haven’t like been that mad, in a really longtime. Like that was crazy. Very very frustrating. It’s still kinda upsetting when I think about it now (even though I’m considerably less upset) because I really practiced for this tourney and the matches I lost were retarded man. It wasn’t a proper representation of my abilities at all. During like the casual play matches after the tourney I felt like I couldn’t do anything literally that’s how bad it was.
You definitely need to get into Marvel. How about this, if you get back in Marvel, I’ll get back into CvS2. Deal?
BTW, thanks to everyone that tried to console an angry young black. It’s hard enough living in the white man’s world but it’s even worse when you can’t play on certain sticks. Yup.
Besides personal preference, any reason people brought their own sticks? Did I not have enough PS sticks or something?
I just want to make sure I have all the basics covered. I always want to use my own stick too, but I want to make sure that everything’s groovy from the get-go.
EDIT: I’m not saying it’s a bad plan, I’m just trying to make sure that if you accidentally forget yours, that you’re still happy.
Could’ve been me. I asked people to bring sticks out of fear that we wouldn’t have enough working ones or enough with the right connectors; which turned out to be the case with a lack of PS2 => DC adaptors. When I used to hold gaming sessions in TX, 2 sticks were guaranteed to crap out every night. But then, people also used a lot more homemades down there.
From what I recalled, you had 2 PS2 MAS, and 1 DC MAS, right? I have a couple of homemades, and 2 innovation converters. If we are to hold 2 console (or more) versions of Marvel, someone would have to bring a MAS. And if we wanted to hold CCC2 or Anniversary Edition on 2 screens (or seperatly at the same time), we’d need more PS2 sticks. Whatever the case, I think that it’s always a good idea for a few people to bring sticks just in case.
To be clear, the adapters DID work, but the Programmable Pad adapter they accidentally plugged in appears to mess up the MAS/Dreamcast until you power it off/on. So we should be fine, but yeah, good thinking regardless.
I’ll check on the MAS wirings. I believe someone is borrowing my 4th MAS(?)…
god that was a great night, my MvC2 losses included…and last night/this morning i got the Vega practice i needed desperately so i can use for next time! damn that was a tough couple of fights! i need to get better with Sentinel as well, its very rookie-ish compared to what was on display.
You and me both. Have you seen my Texas Style Fast Fly? Only I can pull that shit! It’s launch with Sentinel, SJ, jab, strong, start fly, whiff short, whiff fierce, get AHVBed. Frank and Chris might be working on that, but I can do it on command.
I thought you were OK, but you’re pretty raw relative to everyone else who play against each other all the time. Bear in mind that about half the people here would be top 16 at most tournaments. Watch and learn and you’ll pick up tons of interesting tips/tricks.
I like Venom too, but I think he’s only effective with either Sabretooth, Sentinel, or Doom. Storm is great, but it’s hard for her to hold up a team by herself. =\
I gotta thank Mandel, Cody, Zach, Nolan, Rat, and all the other peeps that played me a bunch in MvC2. I had a lot of fun so I’m gonna try to come up to the next one. Since it’ll be just MvC2, I’ll concentrate on in for a few weeks and hopefully I’ll have a chance against some of you the next time I come up.
As for 3rd strike. Where was Seattle?!?!? Big props to the Seattle players who came out and played, but I have to be honest and say we were expecting more. I was excited to come play the new up and coming Seattle 3S players and get them hyped. Oh well.
Anyway, overall I had a great time and I’ll try to come again next time.
Yeah I hardly ever play agaisnt people that are that good, actually I hardly ever play against anyone else in this game so I guess I need more experience. But it was really fun looking at some of these guys play.
I thought it was kinda ugly that not that many 3S people showed up because PDX made up like 1/3rd of that tourney (if not 1/2). Especially considering how many people play 3S at GW. I can understand why 3S is getting omitted but I suppose it comes down to what’s more important for the people that do attend because while there are people there to play poker, there’s people there that mainly play 3S, ST, and CvS2 shudders. Part of me believes we should honor their presence. I have no real objections to 3S being left out (as Marvel’s my main game) especially since peeps didn’t show up for it. But on the other hand, 3S is being omitted for poker? I dunno about that one, especially with Zach getting 3S and CvS2 for his cabinets. I’m just presenting a different point of view as someone who doesn’t play poker. If it’s a matter of tvs being taken up, why not run 3S/CvS2/ST or whatever on the cabinet? I don’t think the majority of the people that play those games play Marvel as well.
