Sorry dog if i gave the impression that i am showing this Friday but im not showing up till atleast when chunksta shows up! but if you want to get it then to its all good!
^-- The current plans don’t have either him or J showing up over a weekend, just during the week. =\
I plan on coming for MvC2, but I prolly can’t make it until right around 10pm.
to all random people: please come to zach’s and enter marvel. Wenzel wants to light someone up with Magnus. thanks.
I should be able to make this after having dinner with my parents. Hopefully my sister won’t get lost driving me there. Just out of curiosity, what’s the earliest you’d be ok with someone arriving?
I will actually be working from home that day, so … uhh. Noon?
Can I come? I’ve never met any of you guys and I’m not that great at these games. Also I have CCC2 and SFAC, for Xbox though, I could bring those.
Yeah, just don’t be random/ugly. I take care of my house, and I expect people to treat it nice too.
You’ll only get insta-banned for:
- fighting with people
- being an asshole according to me
- fucking up my house in any way
That’s about it. As you can tell, pretty low key. It helps if you know people.
ok, i’ll try not to be random. j/k
Did you want me to bring my Xbox, CCC2 and SFAC?
I think we might have more consoles than TVs at this point but feel free to bring it in case the people that said theyd bring the ps2s dont. Zach and I have Xbox converters, so I’ll bring mine just in case. Xbox converter lag sucks but not too big a deal for me anyways since its only a small fraction of a second…
On that note: I’m hacking the MAS stick I got from Jeff and putting an Xbox PCB in there, the PS2 PCB was fried anyway (some buttons didn’t respond and then it stopped working all together). Might of been a bad soldering job by whoever made it a PS2 stick… but it works out since I have all my fighters on my modded Xbox. I also have a modded X-Arcade, Happ parts but still has converter lag.
Alright, I’ll bring my stuff.
Right, I only have two TVs (plus the arcade machines) right now. I’ll have three shortly (HD LCD, so we’ll want to watch for lag), but right now just two.
I can bring a random nazer small tv that I found in the garage and probably just leave it there since its random and nazer and isn’t getting used anyway. It doesn’t have the composite input though. Would need a vcr to hook up a console to it.
If it has an RF input, I have RF adaptors for PS2. So, if nothing else, it’s another screen to put the 3s tournament on.
Since we’re a day away, I just wanted to remind everyone again. Please bring correct amounts for the entry fees, as I won’t be carrying change. Though I’d be happy to accept the excess funds as donations towards a larger pot. Also, anyone who’s able to bring MAS sticks, please do so. Hope to see a large turnout tomorrow
any chance of recording the tournament this time around?
Yes I agree with Evan, recording is needed at this tourney. I need to see what I’m doing wrong in order to have an idea of how to improve!
3/16 update

The first post in this thread has been updated to reflect the current standings. I apologize to all for such a convoluted evening. Once the Portlanders announced their late arrival for 3s, everything was doomed since we had limited screens with which to run all of this on. To be fair though, there would have been no 3s tournament had they not shown up due to lack of interest. Running multiple tournaments at once is simply not realistic, and there’s no way we could possibly finish a 5 to 16 player 3s event within an hour. So. . . .
Starting next gathering, I’m going to drop 3s from the schedule. I mean no disrespect to all those who love that game. The fact remains that the majority of players are here for Marvel. Running multiple events is not only chaotic for organizers and players, it also ruins the evening for all who actually wished to partake in poker night.
As of next poker night, Marvel will begin at 9PM, and ST will commence whenever a significant number of people get knocked out of poker–or whenever all who wish to take part are able to. I’m confident that if we actually have MvC2 running on 2 screens AND the cab, we can get it done by midnight and start poker as usual. Perhaps I’m deluding myself, but I pray that this is the case. ST is quick, random, and also cheap to enter, so it’ll stay for now.
In the future, if players refuse to play at a certain station, or fail to wait “on deck” when instructed, they will be assessed a loss for the match. If you want to play casuals, you’re welcomed to do so before/after the tournaments. The tournament itself must be run in a more timely manner, and I apologize for the fiasco from the last 2 weeks. Refusing to play is disrespectful to others as it holds everyone up. If the controls are broken, we won’t hold matches on them. But just because you’re used to a certain style of stick does not give you the right to stall the event for others.
Now, some observations from this week:
-Mad props to Anthony for climbing the entire loser’s bracket and gaining revenge against the one (SamY) who handed him his only loss in ST.
-Shame on Cody for not knowing when to run and giving Row the set in Grand Finals.
-Thanks to everyone to came from Portland, SeaTac, Alaska (there was one who came the long way), and lord knows where else to produce a rowdy series of tournaments. Boo for flatulence. Zach’s (through no fault of his) has never smelled worse.
-Zach is still the greatest host ever. Anyone who says otherwise, I’ll kill’em.
-People who know they have no prayer of winning but play for the sake of learning anyway kick ass. Thanks to all who threw in along with Frank and I to help make the pot/event bigger. It shows that we have an wide and enthusiastic player base. Playing with something–even if it’s only $5–on the line is a whole other beast from casuals. Facing serious comp is the only way to get better. There’s no question of that. Row and Cody thank you for your money.
-I feel kinda bad that double points were not given at this MvC2 event. The turnout was so much bigger than last time. But, that’ll teach you to get in early and leech points where you can.
-Next poker night will be the third league tournament for Marvel. After that, one player will be dubbed “Worse Marvel Player in Seattle”; to be amended every tournament. I would only show this title in the inaugural post with the player’s permission, but several of you have openly claimed to be gunning for my title.
-Cody is leading all scores!? Someone call Hell and ask about the conditions.
-Nate uses macros. He’s got a 720 button, I’m sure of it.
-Not enough 3s players around here cheese. Break out the Chun-Li! There was only one Yun, right?
-Chris, you have a single point in 3s. Even if you, Frank, and myself all remain scoreless in Marvel come July, I’m using that as tie breaker.
-Rat’s on the board now, as it should be. I’ll make you a copy of that CD if you still want. Just let me know.
-I’ll leave the 3s ranking in the first post until the next poker night. 3s players have until then to gloat.
-We had 12 for ST, but 3 dropped due to the late hour. I dropped in the end so that the bracket would be clean and even.
-Could someone make me an avatar with Roll parrying 3s Chun-Li’s kicks super? I posted a request in Image Mishmash, but no one’s helping out. I just need 2 or 3 hits on repeat, it doesn’t need to have the whole super animated. Roll’s sprites can be found here. I got the idea because the frame where she retracts her standing jab (for high parry) and the first frame of her crouching jab (for low parry) have her arm bent at the elbow, and kinda look like 3s parrying frames.
-5 hour tournaments are painful. It won’t happen again unless we get over 20 people. But a large turnout won’t be a bad thing.
-I’m still waiting for Team Scodolfy Vol. 2. If you can’t come up with any new combos, just throw together some match footage.
-Kyle, you left my stick on Zach’s kitchen counter. It’s still there as far as I know. I figured that you probably live closer to his place than mine, so it’s easier for you to pick it up there.
-Starting with the Marvel event AFTER the next, I’ll seed players with points so as to reward those who consistently place high. This will prevent high caliber players from knocking each other out too early due to retardation in random bracketing.
-I did not witness any Black Rage.
-Thanks to whomever ran the 3s bracket for me.
-More will come to me after I’ve slept.
One question I must pose to all potential ST players is regarding character choice. I originally made the stipulation that everyone must maintain the same character for the duration of the tournament because that’s how it’s done in Japan, as well as in most respectable large scale tournaments. I’ve been told that EVO does not require you to keep the same character. So, if enough people want to change to how EVO does it (optional blind pick, and loser gets to metagame), I would have no objections to altering the format for the future. If you have thoughts on this matter, please do share here.
You missed some of my greatest work to date, but you’re about to witness some right now. That last tourney I played in, was easily the fucking worst Marvel outing I’ve EVER HAD. Literally. Out of playing this shit for 7 years. Know why? I practiced for this tourney and I lost because of dumb ass shit I can’t prepare for.
As far as that rule about the automatic loss, then you can give me an automatic loss anytime I gotta play on the cabinet. I refuse to play on it straight up I don’t care if I gotta get dq’d and be out. I feel like I don’t have a proper chance to execute/win on those sticks. Unblock vs Storm/Sentinel? Yeah that’ll brighten up my mood real quick. I really wish I could be chill, but I’ve come to learn that I simply can’t. And to the people that felt like they needed to like patronize me or whatever after that match I had, I’m gonna give you a warning. Consider this serious, don’t do that shit ever again. You obviously don’t realize just how pissed I was. Yeah it’s “just a game” but I spent money and time on this shit, so I’m trying my fuckin hardest.
Totally Agreed.
And dude holding the backet, try not to talk so much shit in Marvel…seriously… If you think I’m going to sit through with your shit talk again next time, you better be 10-0ing me.
First of all, thanks for running this Keith, it was a mission and a half and you deserve props for this. And of course thanks to Zach for hosting and for being patient and cool with all the madness going on in his house.
About 3s… I gotta learn to handle rushdown in that game, Yun is such a horrible matchup for me and Val’s aggressive Akuma was just sick. Maybe I just need to concentrate more and/or practice. It’s awesome I had a reason to take this game seriously again UNTIL I saw Keith’s post… I don’t think the 3S tournament slowed things down at all, it was being run by one of the Portland guys in parallel with Marvel. The slowdown of the evening was quite obvious, almost all of the tournament matches were run in the living room when we had 2 other stations. I understand you were trying your best Keith but you have to force people to play elsewhere, and if someone doesnt want to play on the cab then go on to the next match or they can play downstairs. Given that there’s enough interest and someone other than Keith runs it, it’s kind of unfair not to run 3S for the few non-Marvel players when its not hindering Marvel in any way. Like I said, it was cool having a reason to practice again… but hey I can play ST.
edit: What about CVS2? Would there be more interest in that over 3S?
Mandel: My bad if I’m one of those people you’re referring to. I didn’t see the match but the moment I saw you I knew you were mad and was just trying to make you feel better and lighten things up. I don’t talk down to anyone and I apologize if you thought that was patronizing. I guess I don’t understand since I didn’t take the tournaments as seriously, but now I’ve met Angry Black and know better.
