I think there might be another gaming night next week (7/13), but I’ll wait for Zach to announce it before changing this thread’s title. If this was indeed the final tournament of the season, it was certainly memorable. Thanks to Zach for putting up with our shenanigans. Great games to all, especially Evan for sweeping the loser’s finals in MvC2, and Nate for sweeping the grand finals in ST.
The up to date tournament history file can be downloaded from Rapidshare via this link. If people have any recommendations as to better places to host it, I’m willing to listen. I just started using rapidshare because it was the first place I found, and I was in a hurry due to the complaints originating from the last tournament.

Memorable notes from last night:
- Game 1 of the Rairu vs. Codyliciouz loser’s final was the oddest game I’ve ever seen in my life. I can’t wait until that gets uploaded. Never have I seen so many things LOOK like they weren’t going to hit, but connected.
- Cody’s could be caught by Row; in theory. If Row wins the next tournament, and if Cody doesn’t place, Row will come out ahead in the final standings. Even if Cody gets 5th and Row wins, Row owns the tiebreaker. There’s no real prize other than pride, but the notion at least adds a touch of drama.
- This is the first time all season that the Marvel grand finals drew more than 3 spectators.
- Theo and Andrew drove from Eugene, OR to attend. That’s hardcore. They also took 4th and 5th, respectively. Good stuff.
- Murakumo’s Dhalsim is nuts. For those of you that didn’t make it tonight, you missed a great exhibition.
- Good job Evan on 3 straight strong performances in Marvel tournaments.
- Cody came in late, and started in the loser’s bracket. He still took 3rd. Most impressive.
- Mandel and Zach finished on the Marvel bubble, and deserve mention.
- Pablo was buzzed, but never truly drunk. I came home to find that there wasn’t a single drunk post? A great opportunity wasted. Quelle dommage.
- Isn’t Jaeger a white-fraternity drink? Is there even 40% alcohol in that shit?
- Happy birthday to Rodolfo!!!
- Did everyone see Umbrellastyle rep’ing the ST players in the Marvel tournament. It was truly inspirational. Keep training for next time Alex.
- On the flip side, Julian is a liar and a cheat. The man said that he would enter MvC2 as soon as he got a job. Then he said that he would enter the second tournament after he got a job. Last night, he backtracked once more and said he wouldn’t enter because he hadn’t practiced. If we do not abide by our covenants made, there is no justice in the world. Julian, you are a disgrace to civilized men everywhere. Your pusillanimous nature makes me sick. You should be banished to the wilderness to fend for yourself, as you forfeited the goodness and order of society.
- Pleasure to meet Zero and his crew. Hope you guys got home safely.
- Where was Kyle last night? Is the ToC dead in the water? Is he pocketing all of the proceeds?
- Julian, you never gave me my arcade stick. Further proof of his savagery.
- With the absence of zass, all ST players basically finished one place higher than they’re used to.:bgrin:
- Nate has all but cemented his lead in the ST season rankings.
- Wasfemto failed to show up and beat off queers for free. According to the previously post in this thread, Kuenai was obviously disappointed.
- Much obliged to Julian, Pablo, Nate, and Alex for chipping in and coming up with my entry fee for ST. Were it not for Alex’s stoicism (entering the MvC2 tourney), I would not have entered the ST tournament. I should point out the reason that I gave you guys each 25 cents in addition to paying you back. This was so that all 4 of you have to be present to pay for my entry fee next time. I’ll not accept a loan again, my pride couldn’t take it.
- When the ST footage gets posted, watch the final game between Tempest253 and Deezo. That game could have gone either way, and ended in a WTF moment.
- The great Cornholio earned his first ranking point by chomping faces. Congrats Kenny.
- Yet another strong showing by Alex in ST. He’s poised to overtake Airthrow. You gonna take that, Julian!?
- I listened to Switchup’s CD on the way home, and almost drove into Lake Washington. I must have been really tired. The tranquil music almost put me out. Perhaps Alex was right, I can’t handle the rhythm.
- Zach’s small cab now has optical 360s installed. 3s players rejoice.
Quote of the Evening:
"This is pointless. It’s like trying to convince Dark Prince that Seattle is not on the East Coast."
I don’t recall who said this or what context it was in. I overheard this as I was running around trying to find people for their matches.
Exchange of the Evening:
[responding to Julian’s inquiry of why an ST player would bother entering MvC2
Umbrellastyle: $5 entry fee, I’m going 2 and out, so that’s $2.50 per game.
Me: Well, even if you get swept each match, it’s best of 3, so you get 4 games. Technically, it’s $1.25 per game.
Umbrellastyle: Oh, so that’s like Gameworks prices.
Memorable Phone Conversation of the Night:
Me: I’ve looked all over the house. Where are you?
Rairu: I’m out front.
Me: You’re on deck, so get ready.
Rairu: Who am I playing?
Me: Guess.
Rairu: Oh no, don’t say–
Me: No, it’s not Mandel. You’ll actually like this one. You’ll really, really like this.
[moment of silent contemplation]
Rairu: . . .Jamie?*
Me: Yep.
Rairu: FUCK YEAH!!!
Jamie = Kuenai
Random Quotes of the Night (in no particular order):
“Ratt’s boyfriend was in the room.” - Kuenai
"It’s Julian vs. the haters up in here." - Airthrow
"I hate you Keith." - Pablo_the_Drunk
Current Worst Marvel Player in Seattle: Keith Huang
Current Worst Overall Player in Seattle: David Alvarez
David made it further than me in the Marvel tournament. But I scrapped along further at the kids table. He’ll wear the crown until next week–if there is a gaming night. Otherwise, I guess he’ll retain the title for all time.
