NW Competitive Fighting Game League "Season One" Results Thread

we should do an ST team tournament today

I’d be down.

sounds good

maybe we should do teams of two, depending on the turnout

I figured I would let you all know that this is my last tournament. Also, this is likely the end of me and Marvel…

Why?..

… 'cause I’m moving to Japan in 2 weeks. I no longer have extra weight limit in my luggage, room in my 250’sq. apartment, or time in my life for Marvel… someone please pick up Dhalsim… Evan, I will make you fucking transcripts for that shit that you will follow to a T because you never miss anything.

So yea, thanks for the run… I’ve known many of you since the South Center days when Ratt ran the town with Iceman…

I’ll still occasionally be lurking on the boards, but you’re likely to see me in an MMA math before you ever see me in a tourney again.

~Curtis

Bitch, pay attention. I don’t even have the title right now.

Talk amongst yourselves and decide the format. Team size, character choice guidlines, how many times must a team be eliminated, player sequence guidelines, round robin vs. double/single elim (or a mixture), and other relevant stuff. I could run it, but I could also be playing Marvel afterwards. Whatever the case, be prepared to run late. ST never finishes until 2AM anyway, so tell the wives not to wait up.

This was by far the dumbest fucking thing i’ve read on SRK in a long ass time. And as far as notable names go, until my roommate can overcome his anger, and have some humility he will never become a notable name…

BUT if he can get over the fact that yeah some people get lucky and yeah we can’t win every single match, and just let those slide off his shoudlers instead of carrying that dead weight, he WILL become an unstoppable force, and the year that he decides to let that side of him go, at that NEXT evolution he will make it to the final 8. Real talk.

I’d be down for a team tournament…

Frank is the man. The thought of living with Plummer just sparked some random wisdom.

GG’s to everyone.

Popeye is savage.

Zach, thanks again!

TEAM SEATTLE BOPS INCORPORATED REIGNS SUPREME.

Merger with team Resevoir Dogs pending…

Epic.

Too hard for t.v.

This season has drawn to a close. I’d like to thank everyone who took part and made this experience fun. The first post in the thread has been updated with the final results. The big news is that Row surpassed Cody in the final MvC2 rankings, while Nate holds off Julien’s advance in the ST rankings.

The complete attendance and placement record can be found at this Rapidshare link. You are free to see how you or someone else performed through the course of this season. The file is in Microsoft Excel format. This link is also found in the first post in this thread.

Evan “Rairu” Wenzel - 5 pts.
Zach “Preppy” Robinson - 3 pts.
Ian “Vashthstampede” Tonberry- 1 pt.
Brian Ma - 1 pt.

I have fewer specific recollections from last night than usual. I was running around more than usual, and didn’t get to socialize as much. Some worthy points from last night that I do remember:

  • Firstly, thanks to Zach for providing the venue for us to hold tournaments. This season was made possible by the hospitality of Preppy, and don’t any of you forget it. And good luck to Zach in the STP. He didn’t even train. I’m hoping that he doesn’t die, because then you’d all have no place to game.
  • Apologies to the MvC2 entrants that had to wait for their change. I didn’t carry that much cash on me, so it took a while to get your money back to you with the proper denominations.
  • After being eclipsed by his training partner a few times in recent tournaments, Mandel took second in MvC2, defeating Evan in the loser’s finals.
  • Frank is a fucking liar. After all those months of claiming to be a horrid player, he got further in the MvC2 brackets than David AND myself. Worst player in the NW, my arse. I think he also beat me 2-0 last night.
  • Good luck to Curtis in his JET program. Teach those slant-eyes how pronounce “bitch” with the proper American intonations.
  • It is with restrained pride that I must proclaim myself no longer to be the worst player in the NW. When I first returned to Seattle last November, my game was atrocious. Today, it’s top tier Texan, low tier Seattle, but admittedly not the bottom of the barrel. Folks, I give you the definitive worst player in the NW, David “DAWolf57” Alvarez. And thanks to him for being a good sport.
  • It should also be noted that David took part in more tournaments than anyone not named Mandel. This is admirable, as he exhibited not only a desire to improve his game, but also to support his community. In all seriousness, you bastards who play games but didn’t want to join the tournaments because you wouldn’t win your money back, take note. This is how you advance as an individual, this is how you show your love for your scene. This is a man with heart. Even Pablo would be envious of this level of heart.
  • I’m still worse than Chris as a competitive game player, since Christ still plays 3s and CvS2 at a decent level. Even though those games SUCK!!! Dammit, Chris, play some real games.
  • Apologies to Kyle and Steven. Before the tournament began, I actually put you on opposite ends of the brackets (you were originally randomly paired in the first round) because Evan told me that you guys played each other all the time. Sadly, you still had to face each other in the loser’s bracket.
  • WTF!? Nate lets Mandel play ST but forces me to enter in the loser’s bracket because I’m running the Marvel tournament? But at the same time, draws Mandel into the brackets when the Deezo made it all the way to the grand finals of Marvel? That’s total racism. Someone fixed the brackets. My control stick wasn’t working right. I think someone took what was written on the forums too hard and realized it in their favoritism when they ran the tournament. What, I can’t bitch like the more petty players? Julien paid my entry fee. I have the right, nigh, the responsibility to be an ass.
  • Congrats to Veteru, coming out of nowhere for his first ST event, and taking 4th. It just goes to show that ANYONE can come into this ST scene and make some noise.:arazz:
  • Row and Mandel took 1st and 2nd in MvC2, Julien won ST. Can you tell what they all have in common? . . . None of them paid their entry fees.
  • Sorry I cheesed you Josh. It’s what my character was designed to do. You won’t find me talking shit about ST to anyone other than Full Screen Super, because I know that the requirements for playing my character are non-existent.
  • To all the ST players that *want *to believe your game isn’t broken, who *need *to believe that I’m a good player; not just one who happened to come along and perform bullshit moves in a bullshit game. Too effin’ bad. I know why people like Pablo were cheering for me in Marvel, it’s because you want to believe that when I win with Claw, it’s because you’re losing to a good player. Not that your game is unbalanced. Well, Nate made it as far as I did in the Marvel tournament (not that far), and he doesn’t even play the game. The next time that you’re getting hit by Claw/Chun’s ambiguous cross-ups, admit to yourself that the shit doesn’t belong in the game. This does not run contrary to my previous point, since it’s the truth, not trash talk.
  • Even though Julien and Nate are WAY ahead of the pack in the ST rankings, I’ve included the top 4 in the first post in the thread. I know that Full Screen Super needs this validation to face the world in the morning. Once again, not trash talk. Truth.
  • I have the second file of the 6/15 ST tournament running as I write this. At some point, Nate says: “Hey guys, he would know [about some detail in ST], he’s lived in Japan.” I’ve lived in Japan, I’ve played in Shibuya, and I didn’t know shit about ST until 4 weeks ago. Hell, I still don’t know shit.
  • Ratt showed up late. Again. Actually, I found it shocking that the man only earned 1 point in the course of this season. This is hardly an accurate representation of the man who originally founded the MvC2 scene in our area. He is far too good to have only 1 point.
  • Team Seattle Bops Corp. edged Team I Am Piano ? in the ST team tournament, 3 sets to 2. This was before Julian got scared that they might lose another game and left for home. That was rather petty of you, Full Screen Super. Julian also played his main character (Boxer) for all 5 sets. At least Alex and I switched shit up. This was fun, though. People who left early should be ashamed of themselves.
  • Kenneth is the second most entertaining person at these gaming nights. The most amusing would be a drunken Josh Ray. The man never stops talking. Even if he’s got nothing to say, his mouth is moving. When the final matches of Marvel get uploaded, listen to him in the background. His material is golden.
  • If you still haven’t watched the first 3 minutes of the [7/6 ST tournament footage](http://zachd.com/mvc2/matches/seattle/2007 Super Turbo/2007-07-06 Super Turbo.wmv ), do so now. Pablo’s rants are hilarious. Pablo was drinking, but wasn’t quite as entertaining last night. He even drove home afterwards, disregarding BAC laws. Like a true Mexican.
  • Julian finally made good on his word to play in a Marvel tournament. He originally said that he would start playing in Marvel tournaments after he got a job (he’s been employed for months now). Better late than never.
  • Alex went back on his word (to play in every MvC2 tournament till the end of the season), so he is not a man. He currently resides somewhere between eunuch, and Barbara Streisand. For those who need a diagram:
    Pussy–>Eunuch–>Umbrellastyle–>Streisand–>Boy George–>Man–>Valiant Man
  • Zach was surprised when he woke up that his house was nearly empty. When I told him that Kyle kicked everyone else out, he laughed.

Good luck to all who will be heading to Evo West and Worlds. I hope that the experiences gained during the course of the season have helped your game in some way. Thanks again to all who participated in these tournaments. If someone wants to continue this endeavor, feel free to do so. I know that Nate has already spoken up for running ST events in the future. But details are sketchy at present.

Don’t bother trying to call me after today. I’m shutting off my phone line that’s dedicated to Texans, and gamers.

I should add that Full Screen Super still has my arcade stick. Damn you, Julian!

I can double post in peace because the mod (Preppy) is somewhere between SeaTac and a heart attack as I type this.

lies. I paid my entry fee (my friend spotted me, remember?)

:annoy:

:arazz:

Nope, I wasn’t there for that. I’ll just assume that he covered me, and that you failed to pay your own entry fee.

As to the claims from last month of me fixing the ST brackets, I now have proof that the Seattle ST players hate me. Last week, I gave 4 of the hardcore players from this area 25 cents each. The intent was to gauge whether they’d be willing to hold onto that quarter and pay for my entry fee this week. Last night, 2 of them wouldn’t contribute for my entry fee, and a third one used the same quarter I gave him to pay for his own entry fee. So you see, there’s no way I’d fix the brackets for these guys. They hate me for playing Marvel, and I pity them for not seeing that Marvel’s a superior game.

Hey, I was tired of paying $50+ per month just so some of your wife beating, minority hating, Mtv watching, beer swilling, inbred, illiterate, ill educated, idol fondling, child worshiping, heathen, pagan, devil mongers could talk to me without paying long distance fees. I’ve been back in Seattle 9 months now, and all I hear from Texan men is how bored they are, while all the Texan women ask me when I’ll visit and rescue them from you men. If it’s that bad, LEAVE! Besides, if you want to get a hold of me, you have my e-mail, or PM me here on SRK. How’s life, Eddy?

BTW, I can see why Welcome to the Nihon Hikikomori Kyokai appealed to you and OJ. Just about every man I met in Texas fell into the category of a Hikikomori, or NEET.

Good shit Mandel, just ignore the game and you’ll play better. Were either of the tournaments filmed?

Both filmed. Will be made available on Preppy’s site when he has the time. But he’ll be busy till at least after Evo West, I’d imagine.

Veteru is a beast, he needs to come to our ST gatherings. My fight against him was excellent, a classic shoto encounter.

And keith, stop swinging from Marvel’s nuts. Both games are great for tourneys and will be played for years to come. Besides, you do “cheap” shit in every game you play and exploit all that is nasty. Stop hating.

I was surprised how many people used my stick. Ever since I rebuilt the comp. stick with a hard spring, it has played flawlessly.

Chris-Thank you sir.

Pablo-Your stick played flawlessly because you get that gwop non-stop.

I made a revelation about my gameplay last tourney (concerning ST), and it’s actually pretty important. I can’t tell you guys what it is naturally, well if you ask I’ll probably tell you. Actually it’s probably not that important, but realizing this should help me continue improving. Keepin it real, keepin it trill!

Quick question, if this was season one, when does season two start?
