Also, I just wanted to say thanks to Zach for these tournaments. I can say from experience that one of the best ways to have an increase in skill in a game is to have regular tournaments. Casual free games are a great way to not become seriously good, because there’s no real drive to win.
The other thing this group needs is players to pick and champion top tier characters. I know O Sagat isn’t fun (I hate him), and neither is Claw, but we have to have people playing them, and playing to seriously win, because you’ll be seeing that at Evo. So we need
When I say asshole I mean the guy that you’re going to do anything to win, even if it’s just low short + throw that looks like crap on tape but it wins because you hate him and have to BEAT HIM DOWN. We gotta get into that mentality and WIN NO MATTER WHAT, because I want Seattle area to take top 15 stops at Evo!!
Everyone needs to be able to deal with Dic’s stand short + throw 10 times in a row and kill you, because I guarantee Alex Wolfe will do that to you. Everyone needs to deal with tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger TIGER UPPERCU- tiger tiger tiger. Everyone needs to be able to deal with Boxer’s throw, walk under, throw, etc… And the players playing those characters need to do it over and over and over again until you hate them for it, even though it isn’t fun, because we have to be able to respond to that stuff without even thinking about it.
So what do you guys think of having a couple of hours of “hardcore” mode on the ST cabinet. Where the objective is to just get the longest win streak, or something like that… something to make people play as cheap and as hardcore as possible.
Ok sorry if that isn’t what people want… it’s just that this old man’s tournament blood is stirring, and I want everyone to crush at Evo.

Great fuckin post sir. I agree with hardcore mode ST, I can definitely benefit from it (since I can’t make it out to ST during the week). I’ll try to be asshole Ryu, since my Chun Li is gross and my Sagat is grosser.
Speaking of which, what exactly do you think of Chun Li in terms of placement. High mid? I know she gets trashed by O Sagat so there’s that heh. I’m also looking forward to constructive criticism because I can’t really tell what I’m doing wrong a lot of the time. Most of it’s ignorance, but there’s more to it than that.
