NW Competitive Fighting Game League "Season One" Results Thread

You remind me of my jeep.

Paul and I are practicing right now. He’s gotten a LOT better. And I’m playing a super tweak Magneto :lovin: Too fun.

Meh I haven’t played in over a week, I’ll enter and get trashed again.

What time will you and Paul show up and how late can you stay? I’m trying to figure out when we should play our money matches. I’ll be at Zach’s by 8:30PM, because the Marvel tournament starts at 9PM. If you guys have to leave before 2AM, I can try to get someone else to run the ST brackets for the beginning of that tournament so that we can MM right after Marvel concludes.

Haha. We won’t get there 'til at least 10. Leave at… maybe 3? Last time we left at 3:30 or so. We’ve got time.

you guys should try to make it for the tournament.

I was thinking about it.

Let’s start on that! I’m really down! I mean i know that Kenny can help out and plan it out… But I think that we can do it…

Sorry I couldn’t make it… again.

With my current schedule it looks like I’ll be making it down there after I graduate but before I leave for Japan… that time frame is like… after 6/16, before 7/29.

Decent turnouts for both tournaments last night. Sorry if I seemed close to losing it at people. Also, I apologize for the mixup in ST due to sticks being on opposite sides. Umbrellastyle crossed me up, and I wasn’t even playing. To be safe, I ask that winners of all matches in the future to please seek me out an explicitly tell me who won. Hell, do it even if I happen to be in the room.

Rankings in the first post has been updated.

MvC2 - 16 players

Rodolfo “Rowtron” Castro - 10 pts.
Valentinus “Codyliciouz”" Boentaran - 7 pts.
Mandel “Deezo” Scott - 5 pts.
Mark Santos - 3 pts.
Nolan “Nolander” Deitz - 1 pt.
Zach “Preppy” Robinson - 1 pt.

ST - 11 players

Julien “zass” Beasley - 10 pts.
Phi “JetPhi” Nguyen - 7 pts.
Nate “XTG” Montes - 5 pts.
Julian “Airthrow” Blake - 3 pts.
Mandel “Deezo” Scott - 1 pt.
Mo Shanahan - 1pt.

Some observations from last evening:

  • Great to see new faces. I hope that Phi, Beasley, Alex, Mo, Daniel, Brent, Jesse, and Mark continue to show up.
  • JetPhi showed all around skillz by using no fewer than 6 different characters (Ryu, Fei Long, Claw, Boxer, Dictator, Chun-Li, Honda, possibly Dee Jay and more)during the ST tournament.
  • Mark showed up late for MvC2, started in the losers bracket, and tore through David, Rattana, Evan, and Nolan. I don’t ever want to hear anyone complaining about the start times or showing up late and starting in the losers bracket ever again. If you’re good, you’ll be able to win. Bow to the Guahcsta!
  • Bunkei failed to do his interview due to Kuenai showing up after 2:30AM. Jamie, you don’t know how much you disappointed him. Dude was seething.
  • Kuenai took a look at my sticks, and might have done something with Kyle’s soldering iron. Kyle, don’t blame me. However, he said that one of my sticks just needed a single wire soldered to the “left” input on the PCB. Could you do that briefly next time, Kyle? I’d love to start hitting training mode.
  • The cripple fight did happen. Sorry about bumping the people in the garage–we did leave a running setup for you in the basement. Jamie insisted on playing on something other than the MAS sticks. If Kuenai wants to bring his own Japanese-style stick next time, I’d be willing to MM him again.
  • I ran the formula once more, and the worst Marvel player in the NW is. . . .NOT FRANK!! Take that, DaDank!
  • Yet another strong showing for Zach. Holding it down with Mega Man.
  • Thanks for the food, Nate. You know that I’m going to charge interest for the $2 you owe me, right?:lovin:
  • I’d like to take this time to thank Nolan and Evan for teaching me now to suck less at MvC2. I usually don’t see how your influence changes the way I play, because I still lose to you guys hella quick. Today, I played some other people, and realized that I can actually do things; like triangle jump 62% of the time on command now. I’m still gonna milk supers and go for stupid things in the corner though. That’s just who I am. You gotta beat the devil out of me. More training sessions are in order.
  • Sherry’s still blows. Fuck you Bunkei! Why did we go there again? Did we learn nothing? I thought that I’d play it safe by ordering something simple like pancakes. It wasn’t safe enough.
  • Brevity is a lost art. As proven here.
  • Why was Bopset absent?
  • More people should play Marvel tournaments. If you can play Marvel well, you can play ANY other game better. But, there does exist the possibility that once you start playing Marvel, all other gaming experiences start losing their luster.
  • Thanks to Preppy for putting up with our nonsense. I always try to clean up the house a little when I leave, but I can’t imagine having to deal with all of this insanity in my home. You rock.
  • ST players seem to want to have the top half of their brackets seeded according to league rankings (as Marvel did starting with yesterday’s tournament) at future events. The idea is to reward players who have been attending regularly and to distribute good players evenly throughout the brackets and ensure more entertaining matches late in the tournament. If you’re an ST player opposed to this change, a Marvel player that didn’t like seeding to begin with, or both, speak up now.
  • More thoughts possibly forthcoming after some sleep. Yes, as if this post was not epic enough.

Edit: One last thing. The nail on my index finger feels like it’s about to fall off. That’s the result of a damned good night of gaming.

I think you spelled his name wrong, it is supposed to be Julien Beastly

I got 2x better in ST last night, shit is real serious. ST for life.

you were fucking great last night Pablo! seriously, every ST player last seemed to have brought some GUTS along with their skills. Great grand final set by JetPhi and Zass.

I sucked ass at ST cus I was expecting to win Poker cus I was the chip leader for a longass time… But yeah, Pablo and other people that wanna play ST at my place in Renton, PM me your phone numbers…

Next time I’m focusing on ST so I can place better

I brought a glove and that didn’t matter. So fuck that!:wasted:

You didn’t suck ass as much as I did. Despite my point layout, I’m ducking out of ST, I can’t throw low tigers and I lose to every character in the game, especially Vega. Gotta concentrate on Marvel.

 I PM’ed Bunk and FMJag about it, and I hope there isn’t any bad blood over the incident.

I swear it, I didn’t mess up the soldering iron. You know that right when I took it out of the package ad plugged it in, it started smelling bad. Basically, the insulating fiber to protect the power source was WAY too close to the element (not just close, touching it) I would suggest putting a little bit more money into the tools and getting a “ColdHeat” soldering iron from Radio Shack ($20), which won’t burn anything you don’t want it to and is guaranteed to work the way you want it to. Cordless, too.

 Good run, Keith. I had a bit of fun losing my money. Hopefully I’ll be able to play with more people next time around. Everyone was too busy with Scrabble

I’ll bring my stick next time. If I haven’t broken the box again

Man! I wish i was there! lol! Ill be there next times for sure.

The current worst player is David “DAWolf57” Alvarez. Sorry Frank, the math doesn’t lie, though the mathematical formula I used to determine the worse player might be suspect. Regardless, David will hold the title of “Worst Player” in the NW until the next tournament. Sorry for the delay in putting this up, but I had to PM him and make sure he was cool with the title.

The first post in this thread has been updated with David as the current worst player. Everyone who happens to have a premium account should feed him some love, and rep points. He’s a nice guy, and a good sport.

I’ll look forward to a MM rematch should you be interested once you have your stick working again. You really should try to get out to Zach’s in time for the tournament. Just having the opportunity to watch the higher level matches can really improve your game significantly.

Zach, what’s up with the vids from this tourney and last tourney? Plus the Fatal Fury Special matches if you can.

answered his question! it’s here!

Let the laughter begin!

What about the previous ST tournament? I actually did good in that one. Holla Zach.
