Now you can become one of us. The Jill Valentine Team Building Thread

Hey guys, I have yet to purchase Jill, but I’ve always found the character very interesting. I’ve been soul searching for a point character for my ____ / Dr. Strange / Dr. Doom shell I’ve been running and I’m curious if you guys think Jill would be a good fit for this?

It can work, but I wouldn’t exactly call it ideal. If you’re looking specifically for a point character to fit the shell, there are surely better choices. If you just want to play Jill for fun, though, I’d suggest Bolts and Missiles, of course. Two quasi-lockdowns, one that anti-airs and another that forces the defensive for a long time.

Hi, guys. I’m thinking about a reformulation of my main team (Jill, Skrull, Hawkeye), looking for optimize the strongest techs of my point chars, Jill and Skrull. I guess the best option is to treat each character in a separeted team. I’ll ask for help about Skrull on his forum.

What do you think about a Jill, Hawkeye, Strider, team? I thought about placing Raccoon on Hawkeye’s spot, but lack of experience would be so painful in a team with no health… I know Triple Arrow is not the the best lockdown assist, but is pretty fast and allows me for great mixups. Besides, my game would fluctuate between rushdown (Jill) and keepaway (Hawk). I think it’s versatile and a motivational point for me. I love Hawkeye.

I personally hated it when I had Raccoon with Jill. The log assist just did not work out for me, and even when it did, I had used up my wall bounce.

Hawkeye’s projectiles are insane, and switching to him against anti-Jill camp is a fantastic countermeasure, I think. You also have the invincible Somersault crossover counter just in case.

Hawkeye’s Triple Arrow might not be a great lockdown assist, but it is extremely fast, puts on some hurt, and might let you get in one good mix-up; and Strider is a great anchor with an assist Jill loves. I personally can’t recommend anyone better suited to your second slot since I think the best teams are made of characters that benefit the point, and that you actually like to play and therefore are very good at. The third slot is a common exception, though. You just need that amazing assist sometimes.

I think Arrow Kick is a MUCH better assist for the team. It’s hitbox makes it a really good gtfo assist (ofc, not as good as regular GTFO assists) and maes it a great combo extender.

Strider/Arrow kick is magnificient too.

I use Jill / RR / Strider. RR on Spitfire. It’s like mini drones and it works out perfectly. Log is great but it’s overrated. Give that a try, you’ll be amazed. The spitfire is spread out farther than he could normally shoot them, and if you space it right, and they block the first fireball, you can command throw them in between the first shot and the 2nd shot. It’s pretty dirty.

Yeah, I was thinking of Spitfire, not Log Trap! haha
I’ll try both teams, though I don’t have much time, because our next major is on Jan 26 and 27th. It will guarantee TRIP AND ACCOMMODATION FOR EVO, so I wanna do my best. Maybe this time I’ll put a bigger effort on the Skrull team, that would be Skrull, Nova and Hawkeye.
Lamuness, do you have videos of your team in action? ^^

Dammit, man, I need to grind out this newest team of Jill/Frank/Dante until I’m good enough to compete with the lot of ye!

What is GTFO? Sorry for being dumb! ^^
Well, I’ve already tried the Arrow Kick assist, it’s great for Hawkeye. I can confirm H > Triple Arrow with Arrow Kick and do a combo in a great distance…
But I’m so used to Somersault that I don’t feel comfortable to change… Not with this team that I would be put into a lot of pressure… I need something defensive.

I do, but it’s not great. Plus it’s kind of old and I’ve learned a lot of new tricks since then.

I dropped a LOT of combos especially Strider combos. I learned some better ones that don’t drop anymore. I’ll try to get newer stuff if possible, but for now, my PS3 isn’t hooked up to my PC so I can’t record some of my tech. Most of it is just adapting what I learned from other people, to fit my team.

Good luck btw! Hopefully we can meet up next EVO!

GTFO is short for “get the fuck out.” It basically means to get the bad guy off of you quickly and safely when you’re in big trouble.

Thanks for that video! You were such a crazy pal placing Strider as a point haha. But with Spitfire he’s pretty good. I loved the unblockable setup with Raccoon rock and Jill.

Glad you noticed :). I missed the combo though lol. Point Strider is really fun. I like to switch him in front with RR sometimes because I like my Strider to have spitfire backing him up.

First off, whats good guys?
Sooo. i’m hitting the lab with Jill(idk yet)/Dante(jam sess)/Dr. Doom(plasma b) but Im a lil nervous with this team for a few reasons

  1. in my eyes Dante dont really do that much damage
  2. Dr Doom on anchor isnt very strong but he is a very solid character…

Idk… I’m still working on it I wanna see if this works but ya hit me up on what you think of this team. I take all criticisms, neg or pos.

NSR would know better than me, but I think Jill would rather have Missiles than Plasma Beam since Missiles will hold them down longer, allowing for more mix-up opportunities. I don’t know jack about working with Doom, though, since I hate him. I do know that Jill struggles to cover assists, though, and Doom’s fat ass is hanging around forever with Missiles. Since you already have Jam Session, a great anti-air and lockdown, maybe Plasma Beam might not be so bad.

Dante actually does plenty damage. 800k+ on one meter. You just have to learn it.
Dr. Doom is a poop anchor, and I think Dante does it better (though I think he still struggles a little bit). Play with the order some and see what’s more comfortable for you. Remember to consider that both your point and your second character will be making full use of the third assist.

I wish I could help more, but I just really hate Doom and am brand new to Dante. As such, I’m going to try really hard not to accidentally mislead you on Jill’s choice of assist. Just remember that Arrow Kick is generally preferred for her, especially if their combos don’t use wallbounces. Dante really likes having a wallbounce, though, and he uses the groundbounce every time, so Cartwheel is out of the question. If you’re only planning on using Doom with everyone else dead, I’d suggest Somersault. Otherwise, consider your choice of Jill assist more carefully. Also remember that Somersault kind of sucks as an assist unless you’re trying to setup air grab resets or jump loops. The only other use is its invincible crossover counter that is unfortunately rather unreliable.

thanks man.
yea I am leaning more to keeping doom as the anchor because like Dante can really go in with the plasma beam lol!
Im still scrubby to umvc3/fighting games but dante boxdash H with plasma beam seams like a really good rush down tact.
Also I find hit confirming with machine gun then dhc’ing into million dolla pretty decent.
plus i think there is something behind double team jill & dante ultra combo. like getting some damage in while dante is shootin them down.
also i was thinkin of arrow kick but i was lookin at summersault since it can alpha counter then feral up to punish. dunno… but how rare am i
gonna use cammy assist
but i’m hoping to do something with this team, trying to create a gameplan and solid combo’s utilizing all the assist.
I was also pondering Jill/Dant(Jam)/Frank West (cart)… like i said. still a WIP.

My team as of right now is Jill (Somersault)/Frank (Cart)/Dante (Jam). I really like it. The goal is to get Frank to 4 from the first confirm, which Jam Session helps to do. At that point, they’re all fully capable characters with compatible assists or a crossover counter.

THC with Million Dollars behind you is extremely cool. You can pummel them in the rain of bullets pretty hard since MGS ends so early, and it’s generally safe to call since Jill’s hyper is invincible on startup and the machine gun bullets will destroy most obstacles and stagger most threats.

Gotta say, I did not consider Dante with Plasma Beam. Sounds downright spooky.

Sick unblockable setup with Boulder Trap.

nice to see someone’s utilizing unblockables with Jill!

I wanna give Jill another shot again, just so I have another character to mess around with on the side. How does Jill/Strange/Dante sound?

So I’ve recently decided that I need to learn a rushdown team. I almost exclusively play keepaway teams (albeit with the ability to combo once my opponent gets in). After experiencing much herp derp rushdown online I’ve decided on what I think is an effective–but not overly cheap rushdown team. I’m either going to do Jill/Iron Man (unibeam)/Strider (vajra) or Jill/Doom (plasma beam)/ Strider (vajra). I think that Doom is incredibly hard to use CORRECTLY (i.e not just spamming footdives) so I’m uneasy about trying to learn him and learn Jill at the same time. However, learning Doom would benefit me more overall because he is on essentially all of my keepaway teams (lol he’s there as an assist–hidden missiles). On the other hand, I think it would be really cool to be good with Iron Man and I think unibeam is better for Jill (correct me if I’m wrong). Also although his combos seem like they might be tough to learn (like Doom’s) they don’t seem to involve whiffing normals and air dash canceling etc. That’s really unintuitive for me and you have to do it with Doom. So my first question is which team would you guys go with?

Second, I’ve seen posts about a jump loop JIll combo with vajra but I don’t understand the numerical notation. Can someone post the combo using the shoryuken color notations? Finally, what are some BS mixup/unblockables for Jill with vajra? I’ve been hit with too many Wesker vajra mixup/unblockables and I want to hit him with some of his own medicine from his brainwashed slave lol.
