It’s… alright. Lacking in content, but alright. SFIV had me more hype than V did, but apparently tha had more to do with the former being released after so many years than anything else.
+I really like how it plays
+Looks good, sounds good
+Very simple gameplay
-The roster
-Lack of… everything
The core mechanics are great. But the game is missing everything else. Personally, I would have preferred a delayed release but with an additional 10 characters.
I hated SF4 with a passion. Had high hopes in SF5 and this coming from a complete Street Fighter loyalist. I stayed awake till 2 am last night, took a half day from work, and haven’t gotten one goddamn game against a human being online. Not only that it takes about ten minutes just to get into training. I have blazing fast Verizon Fios connection that is hardwired. I upgraded my internet JUST for games like this. I plunked down 60 on the game, another 30 for the season pass, and another 200 for a new HRAP 4 Silent joystick. Was going to get a madcatz one but I don’t want to wait for the Ryu one to be released.
I mean at this point I honestly am having buyer’s remorse. I feel like I am playing a demo or some shit. I can’t do anything other than fucking training and survival and most of the time it’s offline cause their servers are garbage.
The game is obviously wonderful for what we want it for. Seems very skill based and lacking in the gimmick department which is great. Speaking of lacking though, the game is lacking everywhere else. I was shocked at the amount of people defending the release in that other thread that called it appaling. What they have released is just unacceptable. Hell even for me, someone who only cares about online, I can’t play in lobbies with more than one friend or watch other people play. Really disappointing and stupid. The game was clearly rushed out to keep up with CPT which just doesn’t sit well in a world where most games are sick and tired of being sold unfinished products.
The roster could be a little bit better too, but I guess that’s subjective and it’s going to change for the better as time goes on.
Dude I’m not expecting perfection…just one damn match. That’s all I want. I can understand it not being perfect at launch but they did a ton of betas. By now they should know what their capacity is and what product they are releasing. You really think a casual player who bought this today will play this game beyond a few hours before saying why did I waste my money on this? I’m not casual so I’ll hang in there but still hella frustrated and it is unacceptable. I’m sure Capcom saw and knew how many people were pre-ordering, if your servers can’t handle whatever amount that is or even a fraction of it then don’t release the fucking game.
My point is that companies MUCH bigger and more capable than Capcom (Blizzard) couldn’t handle this situation…idk if you play PC games but people couldn’t even LAUNCH Diablo III for a week+ when it came out. And you’re talking about one of the most wealthy game companies with the most online infrastructure experience, and they KNEW how many people wanted to play. Fact of the matter is this online shit isn’t easy.
There’s no such thing as “don’t release it until your servers are ready”. Quite frankly, worldwide launches of anything are INCREDIBLY difficult to pull off. The best you can hope for is it not being broken too long.
I’m not saying this is good…but it’s really not unexpected. And for what it’s worth Diablo III STILL sold like hotcakes and now no one really cares about the fact that it took people over a week over launch to play the damn thing.
Not defending the game. Just saying that some people gotta be a bit more realistic. And reality is that online gaming sucks on launch. </3
I feel that way with Rockband 4. I haven’t even loaded it up since early December. Waiting until they smooth crap out. The dust on the drums…
The FFXIV relaunch was so bad they actually put a block on any sales of it. All digital downloads would say out of stock.
I managed to sneak one in on Amazon when it was accidentally opened up for 10 minutes. Out of something like 20 servers, you could only create a character on 2 or 3, the rest locked down. So you’d have to connect at 4am for 2-3 days and hope there was an opening.
Then the queue to log in. You are #230 to join.
You get in and see all the people with macros idling in down, occasional jump and shimmy to keep from triggering afk and disconnecting because they want to deal with getting back in again.
Comparing Street Fighter V to a huge launch by Blizzard is dumb. Go take a look at total sales numbers and the player bases for a WoW vs. SF4. WoW has probably 100x more traffic regularly than SF had at it’s peak.
Skullgirls, Guilty Gear (Xrd and X2 #Reload), King of Fighters 13 and all re-releases (2002um/98um) and Injustice. Every single one I own and work without joy2key or x360ce on my Wii Tatsunoko vs Capcom stick with mayflash adapter for PC. MKX doesn’t use d-input, and guess what? That was a joke of a port.
Most modern FIGHTING games support dinput because they know a lot of people don’t use dinput fightstick controllers. 360 pad may be standard for other games, but other games the input type it isn’t standard to have an alternate input method, such as a fight stick.
Having no support for direct input fight sticks/pads is a joke for a fighting game on PC.
been sitting in menus/training for the last hour and not 1 single match.
feels identical to the beta, literally nothing is different other than putting another character in.
can’t even invite my fucking friends to play some matches since matchmaking is complete shit.
And I don’t even give a shit about the missing story mode and grind to unlock character colors and what not because I’m not going to bother with that anyways.
Yeah I got it. It evened out I was actually just now playing Survival Hell Mode for a long time and didn’t get kicked to offline mode or have any framerate drops. I also didn’t get any fight requests either that whole time and I had casual and ranked open. I noticed it also wouldn’t allow me to create a lounge room.
The actual fighting part of the game I’ve enjoyed. I got a few matches in earlier and I enjoyed the new characters and systems.
The rest has been a complete crapshoot. The servers being this ass day 1 is just insane. It has leveled out since midnight but finding ranked/causal matches atm just isn’t happening.
I REALLY hope the March updates happen sooner rather than later.
