As someone who didn’t play the beta and avoided learning too much pre-launch: A few hours in and its fine. Gut reaction is that the game is MUCH more offensive-based than SF4, which plays wonderfully into my weaknesses.* But the fighting game mechanics feel excellent all the same.
Yet, as someone who used to write video game reviews as a part-time job, the lack of content and the presentation irk me a LOT. I know a lot of stuff is coming in March. But maybe don’t release the game until March?
*That said, I’m going to give myself crazy strict challenges to get better. Like “don’t use special moves today” or “no jumping.”
(Picking a character will suck, too. I miss T. Hawk)
The issue (at least in my case) isn’t with things not working correctly (though getting booted from training mode when the server disconnected is REALLY stupid). The problem is that there’s so much “coming soon.” It’s as if Disneyland opened, but there’s only one place to eat and half the rides are under construction. Of the rides that work, some are EXCELLENT, but a few seem to be incomplete.
Capcom stated for months now that their would be many, many things missing in the current version. The biggest reason they released it a Month early (The original release was supposed to be in March which also coincided with the now update that will happen during that month) was to help support the Competitive Community because it would allow them access to the game for the upcoming CPT that’s just around the corner.
If anyone didn’t bother to read or find this information prior to picking up the game in it’s current condition then shame on them, for it wasn’t like Capcom was hiding this information.
This is such a retarded view to have and the reason that games keep having problems at launch - because people “expect” them and are okay with them. You flat out say “it should have issues day 1 since other games do” and you are okay with it.
You also shouldn’t have to research a $60 video game title JUST to be sure that a “full game” is available when the game is launched. It should be expected that if you are paying the normal full retail price that you will receive a full retail game for that price.
When I purchased Forza Horizon, or The Order, or God of War, I didn’t have to go do research JUST to make sure that I am getting a “full game” because it is expected and always has been expected in this industry.
You also have to keep in mind that us fanatics who look on SRK forums daily are in the VAST minority of people who play Street Fighter. We’re die hard fans of the series who would pay $60 for a beta (and kind of already have and are okay with it). That’s not the common customer.
The question then is “How much does the average customer pay attention to that news?” I like to think I’m quite connected to gaming, so I knew some stuff was missing, but I had no idea just how much was gone until reviews hit. For people who just look at review scores and see “ooh! A new Street Fighter!” It’s going to hurt their experience.
I totally understand getting it into the competitive community’s hands. I just can’t help but wonder if the incompleteness will ultimately be worth it to Capcom.
Absolutely it’s worth it to Capcom cause we all bought it lol. It’s all about that bottom line man. I mean yeah this might fuck up season pass sales (a little) or whatever else they had planned but at the end of they day, they already got their money. It is what it is unfortunately. They’ll patch it at some point and everybody’ll be online fighting their little hearts out and this whole ordeal will be a distant memory.
What do you mean? It uses xinput like most major PC titles in the last couple of years…SFIV supported dinput as well, but frankly most modern games don’t even bother with dinput anymore…
Well I wasted a bunch of time last night trying to play online, but with little luck. The game is getting slammed by Steam reviews right now. I personally don’t care about the single player content, but I assumed the online play would have at least been ready to go at launch. I thought it would have had a positive launch, with some people crying about the lack of arcade mode and PS3/PS4 stick support, and most everyone else playing online. Maybe I was being unrealistic in today’s AAA release climate.
I just wanna know why their infrastructure seemed to be unprepared for this? It was a highly anticipated release, and they even paid for a big banner on the front page of Steam. Companies keep making this mistake, and I just don’t get why they don’t see it coming and prepare accordingly.
Because network and server infrastructure is hard to manage. No amount of stress simulation/limited tests will prepare you for an entire planet’s worth of players hitting you like a ton of bricks at once on launch. Even huge companies likes Blizzard have a tough time grappling with this.
Most modern games will have this problem. Really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone by now. Just wait a couple of days and things will be fine.
As a newbie to street fighter (having played SF4), I feel that the game is really smooth and enjoying at the moment. Can’t say I’m enjoying ranked tho but that’s because I suck.
For people with decent comps getting slow FPS, or stutter try this. Go to task manager -> processes and right click SFV set affinity -> Untick every CPU except 0 and 1 -> Go back to SFV (just alt tab or whatever) then go back to task manager and tick all processors. This works for me, hope it helps some of you guys.
The defaults for anti-aliasing are pretty high. If you guys have weak rigs you should try lowering that first. I’m running max except for AA @ 1080p on a GTX 970 just fine.
My impression is that I am playing “beta 6” right now. Except its actually worse then beta because in beta I was actually able to get matches. I was hoping to play online and play with friends. Not much luck of that right now!
in a other forum i read that the newest
game ready driver
have a bugfix for win 10 and sf5 for framerate issues in high settings.
maybe something you want to test out?
