Nova Question And Answer Thread

nah, i’m fine with neutral jump H, it’s superjump ADDF H i’m trying out. I’ll try s.H and if not, c.L it is

lmaoo…we’re talking about whiffing a j.H and going into a low attack for mixup

whats the best way to do the nova spencer crumble? and you dougie since your a pad player how do U do his instant overhead?

And what do you mean by best way?

basically like how do you do it.

and thanks for the quick response bro

I have trouble knowing what it is exactly that you want know but basically after a knockdown, you do Nova Slam (forward H) and around the time where nova hits the enemy, you call Spencer. Then you do Launcher and TK the Nova Strike. If you wanna do it after a fly-loop to save your groundbounce, you press H+Assist once you land but the opponent has to be fairly low or the assist will whiff on him. Did that help?

is the launcher necessary?

Not really but it’s a considerable amount of free damage. You can practice the timing of it without the Launcher and incorporate it later when you’re more confortable doing it.

basically what he said ^^ that and the launcher helps with the timing because it will prevent you from doing the H Nova Strike too soon and getting a wall bounce.

guys, does nova have that fchamp magneto reset in an air combo to catch the opponent mashing a TAC direction ?

I also play on pad, and what I do is set one of my two “spare buttons” to M+H, and just jump->plink dash down. Once you get the timing down, it’s pretty much just as fast.

Yes he does. After relaunch do air L, hesitate for a brief moment for their air recovery, then air HxFly, then get creative.

But they can react to the air L, because you can’t get air L into TAC, right?

The answer to this is “kind of, but not really”. This stuff happens so fast that your opponent would have to have very strong reactions and know its coming in order to react here. The air L is very quick and almost unseeable. Also when most players attempt TAC counters they mash the direction and S because they aren’t quite sure where it will come in the combo. Also if you know they will block then after the air L hesitate a hair longer and press forward H for a nice air tick throw setup. Nova’s fake TAC game isn’t quite as good as Mag’s or Firebrand’s but it is still a viable option. (I asked this same question a couple of months back and this is my experience from adding this reset into my gameplan)

nice thank you. I have doom 2nd and go for a lot of infinites so adding that to my game would be more than beneficial.

does he ever! i have been using these a lot lately and they are super effective. the easiest version to punish a tac counter masher is to just do a long combo into launch (gotta extend the combo to build hitstun up) then just cancel the l straight into h, if hitstun was high enough you can chain the 2 together and if they were mashing they will have popped up into your j.H which you can cancel into rocket punch, dash down H then combo, 1 reset should be killing anyone in the cast.

if your going to cancel your normal to flight mode anyway and don’t want to have a tell like j.l in there you can just use H then flight cancel as both will have them pop out around the same time if hitstun is high enough. H xx fly, then following with a quick grab is really good, plus your high enough in the air at that point that you can air dash down with an attack to do a hard-tag combo off your throw without fear of hitting the character and messing up. because of nova’s hard-tag combos being so beefy there really isn’t a reason that you shouldn’t be killing anyone and everyone with a solid reset in the air.

I still kinda can’t do it. maybe it’s the combo I do?

okay, is there any other way to combo into nova’s crumple state without having to use spencer?

edit: nvm scratch that…weasel shot works, but is there any other assists that work?

There are a lot of assists that help him do it while the opponent is still standing, but only Spencer’s angled grapple assist forces the opponent to stand up. Otherwise there’s no way to cause a crumple state.

There are no other assists that do it in a way that’s meaningful, plenty of other assists let you combo into it before the first launch, but it’s pretty much pointless, the joy of the restand assist is that it lets you get the crumple deep into your combo where you really want it.
