North Carolina Thread LXVI

The other distinctly un-Marvel3 like thing about all assists is that you can hit them in recovery, which can be huge, especially for things like Parasoul uppercut assist which stays out forever after the active frames. I know I’m a bit biased because I’m running solo Ms. Fortune and she’s kinda got an assist already, but it seems like it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be to run a solo character.

we need to get something going in rocky mount

Fortune is probably the most viable solo character hands down lol.

I feel like the opportunities for pressure, combo extension, screen control and safety or just so much greater with an assist though. Those are worth a lot more than the damage boost IMO.

I mean for going solo you get a power boost and that’s it. You miss out on assists and all their applications, alpha counters, dhc possibilities ( which reset damage scaling in combos back to 80%), more base health, and recoverable health. Sure some characters don’t need assists, but I couldn’t see a character not gaining from having one.

I’m interested to see how it turns out though in the tourney life of the game.

So you think solo MF is better than solo Parasoul? I’m not sure I’d agree with that, honestly. It’s probably a moot point though, because having an assist is definitely better, at least until people work out solo ToD combos that work on size 2 characters. Even if that happens though, two and three character teams are still going to have an advantage at neutral.

Yo, I was trying to hit you up before the last RESE to see if you still wanted to ride up there lol. What happened to you on facebook?

Less than a week until ECUG’s LAN XIV!

We’re expecting a pretty big turnout across the board, and I love to see some more new faces. We’ve got $5 entry tournaments for Marvel and AE, as well as a setup dedicated entirely to KoF13, and I’m sure Skullgirls will have some casuals running. If you’re planning on attending, any portion of a setup (especially lagless monitors) would be greatly appreciated. We have enough to run the tournament smoothly, but we can run a lot more casuals the more setups we have.

I know, I know… just the registrations from NC are like 70% smashers right now. Step your game up! The more people post about going, the more people go, and the more hype it will be.

Speaking of, today’s the last day for the discount rate for hotel rooms at the venue. Call them to reserve a room!

Guess we should get on that.

Who else is trying to attend Civil War and wants to get a room?

I deactivated it lol I’ll inbox you my number.

Jon I want to go but the only problem is that I can’t stay for both days. West wants to go and my friend Mike does too but because I can’t stay both nights it kinda hurts them. Do you think you would have room for West if he can’t get another ride up there? Also, if for some reason I can go I wouldn’t mind going in on a room with you, it would be 4 or 5 of us though so I don’t know how many of your party there will be.

What fighting games do you play arvelous? I live in durham as well.

Hi! Um… I don’t have any people that I know living near me who play, so I want to set something up. There’s a gaming place near me (http://www.gametheorystore.com/ at Pleasant Valley Promenade Shopping Center 6260 Glenwood Ave, Suite 109 Raleigh, NC 27612) that said that if I could get people, we could play there. I don’t really know how to do this, but I want to set up regular meet-ups there. They said that it’s fine if we do, I just have to check with them to see what day, because they have a lot of people certain days. Tournaments eventually, but for now I jsut want to get people playing there. I have one TV, one 360, and a copy of SSF4:AE, SFxTK, and Skullgirls that I can use, but to get bigger (with more tha two people playing at a time) I need people to come by and bring a system and a TV. If you go there, ask to speak to Abe, and tell him Koopa was trying to get stuff set up (If you want to do recon). The place, if you checked the link, is mainly for card games, board games, RPG’s, and stuff, but they said Fighting games are cool. We can play any game, the ones i said are just the ones i own.

I’ve been to the store a few times before for card games. They close up shop early (like 10pm-11pm), if you want to go to a weekly session in Raleigh just go to WNB at Champs every Wednesday.

Also I guarantee you that the demographics of the FGC will not mesh well with the regulars who attend Game Theory for tabletop RPGs and Magic.

Fuck so i go try to buy the monitor n it was sold out im highly pissed

What about Lucky’s? That’s a card shop.

Sooooo nothin doin in Wilmington huh?

They have two completely demographics. Lucky’s has never had twenty to thirty old white men in their 40s-60s play Dungeons and Dragons and other tapetop games (Which takes up like every table) for 5+ hours.

I’ve been to Lucky’s at his grand opening 5 years ago and went to his store every week for 2-3 years for Yugioh and Magic and I’ve been to Game Theory here in Raleigh a few times. The store is huge, much bigger than Lucky’s. But holding sessions there would not be feasible. I suggest anyone curious in the area to just go and take a look inside and you’ll understand.

It’s not even mainly a card shop, I would argue Game Theory is more of a traditional game shop with TCG on the side because the bulk of their products unlike Lucky’s are tabletop games.

Here you go…
