What did you guys think about the venue?
I can’t say I was a fan, lack of good parking, the area felt kind of shady in a way, the overwhelming smell of smoke. Although the space was kind of nice and I don’t know how I feel on the fact that there wasn’t all that much time for many casuals or even team tournaments. I mean it was alright but I definitely felt like it was a downgrade personally. It’s not like i’d stop coming, the tournament itself is run too good and competition being so great but even still I didn’t particularly care for the venue overall.
Invulnerable assists can be hit out before they land to attack (Parasoul’s Napalm Pillar for example) but as soon as she touches the ground she will body anything you do every single time. They do not perform the assist if the point character gets hit though.
Invincible assists like Napalm Pillar and Double’s dp+k are very real and viable defensive threats.
I do believe that it was balanced intelligently because even though I still feel 1 character is weaker than 2-3 its not a huge gap.
Parasoul assist is invincible as fuck. It just goes through active shit for no apparent reason. Think Tron in Marvel, except after those 2 frames of “MAYBE she’ll get hit but it’s a fucking coin toss” you just can’t hit her at all. Same with Double’s dp+K. I can vouch for it beating supers. 1 character is going to get fucked in the ass by teams with assists, unless they get a random hit. But the chances of that are a lot lower than the assist team hitting them.
Top 4 teams had parasoul assist at the tournament I think. It’s day one but I think that shit is kinda funny. Now to hit the lab and stop this fraudulent Peacock runaway lol
RE: the new RESE venue, I did like that it was more roomy, but I don’t like the part of town it was in or being rushed out. We finished by like 8 and I barely got to play any casuals. I’d rather be at the hotel personally.
In other news for NC’s KoF rep, me and Arm both took out DJ Huoshen in tournament.
So in other words DJ Huoshen got … up! Good shit!
What I Liked About The Venue:
–More roomy but…(see below*)
–They had a nice airflow going in at first, but…(see below**)
–Nice comfortable furniture to lay around in
What I Didn’t Like About The Venue:
–Ghetto area (which really sucks for me because I went to elementary school at Oakhurst, and that area has REALLY gone down in 20 years)
–Having a time limit
–Lack of parking
–Much harder for out-of-towners to reach/navigate
–Fully stocked bar but nobody serving drinks (not even soft drinks)
–Nasty bathrooms. Thankfully nobody had to do a #2 since the stalls have no doors.
–*…despite having more square room, all of the outlets are still on the wall, which means people are still crowded around the same spots, meaning a bunch of empty space is just going to waste
–**…despite having more airflow at first, apparently the owner decided a few extra hours of turning the A/C on was too much to spend or something, so he turned it off and the staff relied on burning candles and incense to chase away the GAMER FUNK.
–The owner or whoever deciding to light up and smoke in the corner, filling the upper half of the club with cigarette smoke. Fuck you.
–No good places to eat/hang around in the area after the tourney
There were more people than the owner smoking in the corners too or staff. Also despite the womens bathroom having stalls with doors the doors didn’t close all the way, nor could they be locked so if you did have to number 2 you had to do it while reaching to hold the door closed incase someone walked in or stretch your foot out there to indicate that yes you are in that stall lol. Yea honestly I was pretty sure that it was illegal to smoke inside an establishment even if it’s a club because I recall the law being that you can’t do it inside any place anymore which is why even bars got rid of “smoking/non smoking”.
I would say that I agree with your positives/negatives ontop of what I said which was sort of the same things in ways.

I was surprised when Huoshen beat Arm the second time though in losers bracket because I don’t know how you can manage to adapt to something you don’t understand like we had wondered if he wasn’t sure how to deal with Mature and such like that, I didn’t get to watch the fights but it was just very crazy to know that such a player exists because I certainly can’t figure out a persons play style and how characters work off one set of tournament matches. I’m sure it was really close though.
It was really weird playing against him in losers finals because it ended up being that Arm sent Huoshen to losers, then I beat arm, then Jon sent me to losers in winners finals, then huoshen rematched arm and won and then went on to beat Brent, me and resetting with Jon I believe and then Jon took it in the end which was awesome. Huoshen is certainly a legit player, he’s from Maryland which makes me wonder if the scene there is really good or if he just travels to enough majors that he got that experienced. It’s his first KoF game too he said.
Yeah the first 2 matches I had vs him, he threw me off with Terry and his ridiculously defensive playstyle. I made the adjustment and OCVed him with Duo Lon in the second set though. He really doesn’t take any risks at all… luckily duo lon handles that playstyle really well or I woulda been fucked.
Yea it’s what I was telling you he’s a very safe and calculating player, certainly not the type to sit on at any major. You were right about Duo lon though being a good character to face his team. He is definitely a hard character to deal with. I was glad you took it home for NC at first place, shame about the controller in Marvel though.
Houshen is pretty good at KOF, but there are only 3 players in MD that play seriously. HAV, Houshen, and Steve H. RyRy scrapes them all hard though.
All will be at Civil War 4.
I guess we’ll have to “scrape” RyRy then when we show up to YOUR TOURNAMENT THAT WE ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING.
I know this is an weird question. But, is anything in durham happening Thursday? Also, the Durham tourney scene die after Gamefrog closed?
Sometimes all you need is a breather to re-think and analyze what went wrong in a match. That can be enough to come back and beat down someone who may have put you in losers earlier.
I suspect it’s to cut down on the number of entrants- for various reasons.
