Law is pretty cool, I think he lacks a lot of the traditional street fighter tools though. Like no solid reactionary AA, no DP, no command grab, slow overheads and shit. Put some time into Hwa today and I think I’ma use him. He’s got a DP, a Dive kick, a command dash that goes through fireballs (and can be canceled, if you cancel it to his charge special > dash it goes full screen in like a second). He’s got safe hit confirms, his charge special gives you +1 on BLOCK. Not to mention his hunting hawk (spinning kicks into overhead) is probably the best tag cancel move in the game. It’s slow, hits crouchers, and the last hit is overhead. I can actually tag cancel it to Raven , then teleport behind them to cross up with the overhead. If they block that I can go low (which I’m doing anyway for the combo), and as long as the overhead / low don’t hit at the same time, it’s a hard to blockable.
Then he’s got safe overhead he can combo off of, can special cancel out of his chains with certain moves for free, and apparently his pokes are really good. Seems like a lot of shit on one character.
The crazy shit is hwa was NERFED from when they wrote the guide and he’s still beast. Apparently dive kick was +6 on block before. And the EX one is invincible. Like… a downward DP you could combo off of lol
I wouldn’t say Flame Iori is more well rounded than Claw, it’s just that his gameplan is simpler and easier to implement across the board. I mean, 99% of the time your whole goal is to land Rekkas and mixup off the hard knockdown. It’s easy to do and very effective. The downside is that he misses out on some of the retarded stuff you can do with Claw. Claw can fight meterless because he gets a lot of opportunities to reset someone in the middle of a combo for a mixup. You don’t get the luxury of setting up safe jumps most of the time here, but the upside is that not only do you get the opportunity to do different mixups, but they are generally harder to react to while simultaneously prompting a bad reaction from your opponent, which is something an offensive character can really feed off of.
EX Command Grab to HD midscreen isn’t the greatest thing ever, but I think it does equivalent damage to Flame’s midscreen HD, which just goes to show how impotent Flame’s damage really is. Ideally though, you want to HD someone in the corner with Claw, his corner juggle damage is insane. If you command grab someone into the corner off of a crossup with full resources, it will pretty much do the same damage as most characters’ HD combos. Again, the characters are focused slightly differently, so you’re gonna have these distinctions come up. They’re still very similar, so I don’t see it as being that big of a deal. It’s all who you prefer. I know you were struggling a bit with trying to find some different characters for your team, and Flame Iori is definitely a good trade up from Duolon.
If I’m correct, it wasn’t Duo Jon was contemplating getting rid of, but Kensou. Duolon should go nowhere; he’s by far Jon’s scariest character. He also has the best low A in the game (+4 on block? WTF?), according to Duc and Reynald.
I want to learn a couple of new characters in XIII, but that means taking SFxT out of my system, which I’m not prepared to do right now lol. That game is good as fuck.
Ooops, shoulda said Hwo lol. Couldn’t remember which letter came first.
Yeah I’m keeping DuoLon. He’s done by far the most work on my team consistently at any tournament. No way in hell I’m getting rid of him. Was debating Kensou because I feel like my gameplan with him is too transparent and I’m already out of ideas on how to expand that with him, unless I end up just playing him like a lame out Guile type character, probably more what he’s suited for.
Anything going on in RDU for games? I wanna play some cross.
I am at a loss as to how I feel about SFXT right now. I don’t think it’s bad at all, but I’m not terribly excited about it at the moment. Guess I’m gonna try to play Jin and Juri, though I need an easier character just so I can get used to the game first.
I hate SF4 links, but im finally getting the hang of the combos in this. I really want some human competition. Is anyone playing KoF, SCV, or SFxTK within 50 miles of me?
Haha, isn’t HWO referred to as BOB in tekken? Well can’t any more with Bob being in the cast. I guess that changed with 6 though. What do they call him now?
This Wednesday night, March 14th, starts Season 2 of Rockem Sockem RanBats. Make sure you guys make it out and get your points early. We will be playing everything. I am bringing all of my monitors and setups but can use a couple more if you got them. I messed up on the Venue fee when I made the doc and didn’t change the fee from before I found the venue. The venue fee is $5 not $2. Didn’t want any surprises for anyone when you get there.
Games we will be playing:
SFxT
KOF XIII
SF4 (if people still want to lol)
Marvel
SCV
Tekken
I will run anything that gets an 8 man bracket every week for it. If you want to bring a setup just for casuals then please do. We will have the room and I would love to see other games out there like Arcana and BB, hell even GG if you guys are grinding on that anymore.
Casuals will start at 7pm and the RanBats will start about 9 or so to make sure everyone gets there. I would love to have casuals running all night on a couple of systems for the guys who just want to play for fun but I will need more setups for that so help out if you can and bring some setups Casuals will continue when the RanBats end for that particular game unless I absolutely need it for another game to finish.
If you haven’t seen the details of the RanBats yet then please check out the thread. Rockem Sockem RanBats
There is going to be so much going on and a lot of things I want to talk to you guys about so make sure you come out and don’t miss out on the fun and training. After all I am moving this up to Greensboro, hauling all the equipment, and organizing all of this for you guys, NC
Lets do this.
I can’t wait to finally tell you guys about some of the things I have been working on. It’s been eating me up inside wanting to talk about it but I don’t talk about shit until it if a for sure thing, for the most part lol.
Enough rambling for me. See you guys out there Wednesday, and please bring a couple of systems and games for the monitors.
I’m trying to make it. Not sure who’s passing through though. Demo, you trying to go?
I’m in the same boat. I don’t think it’s a bad game at all… although I do think it’ll turn into SF4 slow play eventually once people actually start learning matchups instead of trying to hit their tag combos all the time.
I think it’s just oversaturation of games right now. I’m still hype for KoF, SCV, and Ultimate, I really don’t have much more hype room for SFxT.
They really need to slow down with the fighting games.
