RDU Marvel players, Racoon / Roach King is gonna be in Raleigh NEXT friday, but he can only play between lunch / dinner hours, so I’m going to host a mid afternoon gathering NEXT friday. Not sure how that works out for most of you, but if you wanna come out and play ATLs best, just giving you guys a heads up.

Mostly true, but in certain situations Claw does more damage meterless. This is why I think Flame Iori makes a better point character, as he does decent damage without meter and his BnB combo immediately sets him up for more offense. He’s very strong as a first character because he can simply run over other characters at the start of a match.

The downside of this is that Flame Iori really can’t do a whole lot with meter or HD. Given resources, you quickly hit a point of diminishing returns with him, and while his max damage is serviceable, his ability to convert openings into extra damage with Drive or stock is very weak. Comparatively, Claw Iori takes very good advantage of Drive and stock to increase his damage. The more resources you give that character, the more damage he can do, plus it’s very easy. The damage off of a command grab into the corner is absolutely absurd given how easy it is and how little meter you need.

Actually Claw can do this too, it’s just harder. It’s actually one of his trials in the game, command grab and hop into bypass, then start HD when you land.

Again, Claw has this too, he just needs meter for his. Depending on the situation and which reversal, his is a lot better.

I don’t like grounded fireballs, especially in this KOF because of how hop happy people are. The risk/reward is just too skewed to make it a really useful tool.

Given that their general gameplan is the same, having higher and easier damage is going to make for a better character. A lot of your points for Flame being better are either stylistic preferences or things that are offset by a different advantage that Claw has. They are extremely similar at their core, so little situational things become more important, and in that department, I think Claw has the advantage. They may normalize more as the game progresses, and your style may definitely be suited by one version or the other more strongly. As is, I don’t see any reason to think Flame is better, and the vast majority seems to feel the same way.

Very good.

I can’t make it, but is anyone here considering the MLG event that’s getting many of the top international KOF players in Columbus?

Looks like some of the top Chinese/Japanese may be coming also.

I still don’t understand why MLG would wait until only 2 weeks to announce it, and then have it RIGHT after Final Round.

Yes gems are banned until the tourney mode can be reviewed to see if it is worth the time.

Thanks bro. I am happy with how I did. 17th out of 400+ isn’t too bad at all  lol

Yea I remember that now Goenitz was one of the boss-type characters in the game or a major enemy for him. I do kind of hope to see more on Kyo’s story in the future and what they are going to say to him changing his style. I kind of think that at his current age a style change would make sense, you have the arrogant 94 style then the more flashy gonna screw you up ex style then you could make a combo of both be his new one with him realizing that flashyness and ridiculous power isn’t always needed.

Fighting games aren’t top priority for MLG. Also I don’t think they want a ton of pot monsters.

That said, this is a huge tourney- and with top Asian players coming to the US for the first time, could be something special (though I think they’re better at older KOF)

Anything going on this weekend? My Saturday is looking pretty free.

Sounds like your Saturday and your Abel have a lot in common.

I don’t really trust EX command grab > hop > HD bypass as being reliable. I rarely even see Iori’s do that. Just seems too unreliable to me. But looking at your points then it does make sense that Flames is considered better point while Claw is better second and third. I just personally like well rounded characters. Maybe some play time with Claw would make me like him more. Will probably do that after I finish my initial SFxT training stages.

Speaking of which, who is everyone playing in cross?

I really like Raven but I’m not sure on a second. Not knowing whats good in this game (tactically) makes it harder to make decisions.

Getting 4-500 off a air to air with Raven is pretty lolzy though. His meterless damage is pretty crazy.

I kinda am looking at it the same way (about figuring out what’s good in SFxT)…

Like it seems there are some characters (like King) that throw fireball + anti-air zoning games out the window. I know King’s j.HP and j.HK both beat out all of Chun’s AA’s, and it even trades (favorably) with stuff like Ryu’s anti-air shoryuken. x___x … So that kinda defeats half the purpose of Chun / Juri…

Then I have Xiaoyu with good mixups on wakeup, but it’s not exactly easy since I gotta watch out for wakeup roll too. So really I can’t even decide between Chun / Xiaoyu or Chun / Juri. x(

Check out Law, he goes really good with Raven. For the few days I played this was my team. You can combo into EX QCB Kick move (forget the name) with Law and bring in Raven. Wait for wall bounce and then do Ravens Air to Air ground bounce move into DF HP loop (Or into DF HP -> Medium Teleport combo if you’re lazy and are happy with the 407 damage) … amazing damage off of one meter.

Laws QCB P -> P is an amazing sex move that stays out for what seems forever and basically gives you a ridiculously great anti air that you don’t need to time at ALL and can combo off of. He has great mixup off of his stance overhead , a great poke in crouching medium punch that not only frame traps but hit confirms quite easily into his BnBs…and has very scary rushdown.
