This was Awesome! LMAO
Then you team up with two other people who are better than you silly.
As for room at Final Round- I have one. Only going for KOF/SC though.
I am going to Final Round however I do not know exactly the details on my room and whatever yet. I am 100% going though.
Demo, Ima Call You this Weekend to Talk Final Round plans.
…what the FUCK man. How is it I randomly check a few pages back in this thread and see this fucking card. That’s folgers coffee-flavored newports right there dude.
Anywayy…happy (really) late new year’s to everyone and all that, lol.
Might have to play SC5. What are the tiers lookin like? If Sieg is decent, I might stick with him…
edit: also when is final round ? might try to roll if a spot is open
Demo I’m going to final round, but don’t know the car situation. Greenville hasn’t really gotten together on this yet. I may be driving and I may get a room, but idk right now. I’ll let you know something when I have a better idea from people.
I just wanna thank MTP, Havoc, and Jon Slayton for dropping by last night. Felt like I saw some epic matches and learned an awful lot about certain matchups. Thanks again and I’ll try to drop by tonight after I escape the Walmart.
Figuring out the person’s rhythm, yes. Even when I watch Korean or Japanese gameplay the first couple of rounds are just mainly figuring out your opponent. Throwing out safe jabs, seeing if you can bait, watching their movement, etc. But after playing and talking with Justin and Ed really high level players basically have setups and situations worked out before they even play against a person. They figure out what is safe, what can be done when, and if an opponent is doing “A” then they can execute “X.”
Take Steve’s forward 3 blue spark. I know if I have an opponent who is jab happy if they block it I can immediately do PB uf2 and counterhit. Especially if my opponent likes to retaliate with safe jabs whenever they block my attacks. After getting hit their gonna think twice about it and instead of throwing jabs their gonna wanna block now. So while their expecting PB uf2 instead now I PB 1+2. Now my opponent is in fear of me getting in close and with Steve being able to control distance pretty fast causes problems for an opponent. Db3,2 is pretty fast so even if I control space and they start expecting grabs there’s that if their standing and if their crouching I have overheads and before you know it the opponent starts to beat themselves.
And that’s just low level stuff. I remember when Rip was talking about how they lost badly to a Yoshimitsu player when traveling to Battle Opera because he had so many setups and answers to things they were doing. The player wasn’t a mind reader, he had played so much with that character and had so many matches he knew what to expect.
SCIII is my favorite SC game to date, which lets you know how “competitively” I play that series. I’d like to see it do well, but when it comes to 3D fighting games Tekken overtakes all. The only other 3D fighting game I will probably seriously try to play whether or not others are playing would be VF5. DOA5 I’m gonna play the crap out of, but not competitively.
Let me know if you need someone to split room costs or gas or whatever. I really want to get out there.
Does that mean you’ll be out before Sunday night?
If you’re looking for people to split room costs and/or gas costs hit me up. I’m trying to get down there and looking for people who are willing to split room costs and/or carpool.
EDIT: MvC3 is too random which is a bad example in my opinion. That game feels like nothing but gimmicks to me competitively, so I would just say have more gimmicks than your opponent.
My plan is to check out of the hotel room Sunday morning (arriving Thursday night). I want to leave that evening (I figure things will run slow Sunday), barring anything crazy happening afterwards. Then again I’m not planning on carpooling. I just hope I don’t go two and out in both games, kinda scared about KOF. If Skullgirls is out I’ll give that a shot also, though I don’t think I’ll like it given my history and its similarity to Darkstalkers.
I just don’t give a shit about SF or Marvel period. Don’t even own the game anymore.
Were you trying to split a room at all with anybody? If not that’s cool, just wandering if I can weigh my options or not.
It really depends on the game IMO. Tekken is a lot more cut and dry. Say you’re fighting Bob and you know what bob’s moves look like, what to punish with, and how everything hits. You’re pretty much good. Sure there’s individual playstyles and stuff but you’re probably not going to be saying WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?! When you get hit by something. With Marvel, the “character” is more the team than anything, so there’s so much variance, and everyone has their own setups and stuff like that. I wouldn’t say it’s random so much as it’s got too much variety and unknown stuff right now.
A lot of people say Marvel is random, but it’s really not. There’s a lot of matchup knowledge involved and if you watch tournaments, the winners are pretty consistent. There’s just more to know really because of the variety of shit.
Really a Marvel match is like…
-
At Neutral: This is where all the real fighting takes place. Maintaining your space from the opponent and keeping them outside of their range to do their thing, while trying to establish control of the match so you can run your stuff. This is a lot of space control, movement, and screen awareness and where most of the real match is fought.
-
Someone got hit: Now they’re going to have to survive entry mixups and crazy setups, possibly block 2-3 mixups in a row before they’re home clear. This is where most people get killed fighting good players, and also where weakers players seem to lack in their gameplay. The “oki” in marvel is actually when the other characters are coming in. I think x factor kind of balances this aspect of the game a bit because it gives you options on entry.
Most people see step 2 and say “this game is random and stupid” when the real game was at step 1.
Just booked my room for FR. Get at me.
I’d like 4-6 people in the room ideally. That way we can split costs nicely while still allowing for everybody to get real sleep. Let me know if you’re interested.
I’m interested. What is the split way gonna look like if you get enough people?
I’m in too.
btw guys, won’t be at the tournament tomorrow. Good luck to everyone that goes!
Damn, it seems like no one wants to go, looks like this EZ will have a pretty bad turn out. Even the regulars who have never missed one are saying that they aren’t showing up.
I would like to go, but I have some obligations here I’d like to take care of this weekend. Feeling pretty good about KOF after last night. Gonna save up some hype for Tuesday. Anybody up for a Wednesday gathering for some SC5 love?
Well I was hoping to see a lot of people today before I left, but I guess that’s not gonna happen. For everyone I won’t see today I’ll be leaving on Wednesday and will be back in about 9 weeks. There’s been a rumor going around that Navy basic training has been extended to 13 weeks cause of the added combative, I just hope this doesn’t apply to my command cause I’d rather not be there for an extra month. I hope the new TO doesn’t feel down over low turnout and I’d like to see more people make it out to his future events. The very last thing I want to see is the Fayetteville tournament scene dead when I come back, I put in to much work to have it die off just cause I moved away. Will miss y’all.
Matt frank I’d like to to be in your crew dawg
lol don’t worry, I just have work stuff today that I wasn’t able to get out of. I’ll still be doing my 1-2 EZ fridays and EZ tournament per month with my crew and everything too. Wish I could have donated to your funds today in 3S or something as a going away gift but hope to see you again somewhere like Civil War or some shit.
