This tournament seems like hell for pad players.
Viper is top tier in MvC3. Only problem is the execution barrier you need and the best Viper player in US can’t block.
Sucks we’ll never see her potential
Good luck Will. TNB the tournaments (or more like gatherings atm) are every Monday, Facebook page or not. Good shit to that kid in Marvel. I really want a CVS2 remake. Third Strike soon. Mortal Kombat is the shit.
So is the Greenville gathering canceled or something? Still haven’t heard anything and its suppose to be happening today.
And sorry that I forgot that I am not a normal example to go off of when it comes to science. According to Dr. Michael Roizen “kids have more neurons actively creating new connections than adults do.” This is why it is said kids learn faster than adults. I don’t have that problem so what may be weird or unscientific to others is the norm for me. I thought exam reviews were boring and hated them, so I would just cram the night before the exam and still pass the test. As far as I knew all I did was just temporarily memorize the information needed to do well on the test, which anyone wanting a quick good grade could do. Apparently that’s not the case for everyone.
It was more that I don’t have enough of the creativity or ideas for stuff like that though i’m not so interested in coding. Just wish there was a way that fighting gamers could get more inputs into the games being catered towards them.
My apologies, but I did not view much of EVO 2011 and just checked out some of the matches with Noah. Upon review I have sided with TitaniumBeast on this topic. “That’s because being truly competitive in the current Marvel scene doesn’t take much effort. It’s a very random game and nobody has bothered to really try to take it past that next level.” I hope Noah excels far in the FGC, but judging from the matches I watched a lot of the stuff I saw I would only really expect to see it in casuals if at all. Thought I was watching online matches for a moment, not EVO. I just hope Noah doesn’t turn into another Lil’ Poison. Expectations were set high, just never reached.
What I picked up from watching Evo…
- Fei Long is a very, very boring character to watch.
- Jon Larson… Layton… Laston is free to Kayo all day errday
- Noah had hype going for him. He’s not great at the game, makes me wonder how he got top 48. He looked like he was playing online and it worked.
- Someone get Poongko a Red Bull sponsorship
- Phoenix won MvC3 Evo. Just as planned.
That’s what Mike Z did with Skullgirls. The best way to get your input , is to learn how to code. Everyone wants coders, everyone thinks they have great ideas.
BTW it’s not Fei Long that’s boring, it’s AE in general. Having a game tilted towards RTSD characters is just as boring as any other style being overdominant. The best games allow for a clash of styles, not just one style dominating.
As for Marvel - if the game is so random, one thing that might help it is turning Marvel from best of 3 into best of 5 for sets. That tends to reduce variance. That wouldn’t work for Evo though.
Wait, I broke a mouse? I only checked SRK and FB for like 5 minutes and got off. I hope DP doesn’t read this post.
Even then, you can’t please everyone. A common quote at work is “ask 10 people for input, and you get 15 different responses.” It’s true, people change their mind about what they think they want, and what they truly want/need. It’s kind of ridiculous and frustrating when you’re working on a project like that. If you did make every change requested, you’d never finish. Also, what about clashing requests…
I doubt you did anything Will, but it did stop working after that. Read some user review stuff and that’s a common problem so I’ll see if I can get a warranty on it or something. I guess my mouse just doesn’t like black people haha.
I dunno if they showed it on stream but when Poongko went up vs Daigo, he ripped his jacket off on stage and threw it to the crowd, threw his evo badge on the ground, pulled out an energy drink and chugged it in front of everyone, then proceeded to 4-0 Daigo… was the most hype shit ever. That and a Tron OCV to reset the Marvel brackets lol. So much energy in the room.
WOULD ANYONE COME OUT TO A SATURDAY GATHERING THIS WEEKEND IF I HOSTED?
Yessss… join the dark side!
I would come out if you hosted this Saturday. I would just be arriving late that night, so if you’re gonna be up late I’m game to play. That reminds me…
I’m interested in going myself, but I don’t know the location of the place. I PMed Monday night, but considering how people always say I somehow completely miss all these gathering posts on the forums I decided to post this today. Worked out something with my boss so I could make it out there, but I don’t have an address so it kinda sucks to ask for a favor for nothing.
The real problem is figuring out which people have worthwhile opinions. Player skill is a function of that, but not the only one, as many top players would have an agenda to favor certain characters or inaccessibility (easier to win when it’s harder to play). Some of the drama over HDR was largely due to this.
I know I probably won’t like Skullgirls that much, but I can tell the game has some really good and creative art, and should be a decently designed game.
Yes, I agree. There’s always people with worthwhile opinions, and then there’s the vocal/loud complainers. Usually,as they say, the squeeky wheel gets the oil. As far as player skill goes, I guess if you’re working on a brand new game it might be hard to judge. I guess you can recruit players from whatever game you want yours to be most like. For example, if you wanted to make a 3S-like game, get top 3S players, or mvc, or ST, or whatever. Or, you can ask all of them and then you sort of end up with design-by-committee, which isn’t always a good thing (from my experience, it’s hardly ever a good thing).
Is anything happening soon around the tre4,winston,gso area?
I can give you an address if you are still interested man. just post up and I’ll try to keep close watch on the forums. We normally start around 6ish
Skullgirls stuff
Anyone know what’s going to happen to the MK9 community with EVO being done? I know it’s probably a minority but heard many people only really played it for EVO since it had such a large payout.
It’s very hard. Remembering to do the s after the c takes some high level execution. I’m a living testament.
No, she’s not. People like to say this shit because they want to convince themselves that they aren’t working hard to learn a character like Viper for no reason when you have god-tier characters that require 1/5th the effort and skill to use.
We already have plenty of people with great execution who have played her in tournaments.
Guess what? Execution and combos don’t win tournaments alone. Especially not in a game as cheap and random as Marvel.
You don’t need great execution or great combos to kill 1 or even 2 characters at once in that game.
So what exactly does Viper bring to the table to compete with the established god-tier?
What does she have that other characters don’t that gives her a significant advantage over people?
What does she have that puts the fear of God into people once she activates X-Factor?
What does she have that lets control the screen by herself?
What does she have that lets her take the control of the match when she’s at a disadvantageous situation?
What does she have that lets her negate runaway and zoning?
These are the things that make god-tier characters in Marvel. Not really hard combos.
