For starters…I personally never really knew about Charlotte tournaments quite honestly. If there was information posted about it I must have missed it but I know I haven’t made a conscious decision NOT to come out. As mentioned Will is posting on here constantly reminding everyone and posting in other threads to try and get people to come weeks prior to EZ tourneys. If you want people out you’ve got to keep putting that bug in people’s ears. If you feel like you’re doing enough and you’re not getting the results you want…then that means you have to do more.
I haven’t travelled too much but as of now Final Round was the furthest I’ve been to a tournament. Other than that Lucky’s in Greensboro is generally the longest I’ve driven on a regular basis. That ride is about 1.5 hours and that by itself has been a bitch to drive because I hate driving. Putting Charlotte in google maps shows that drive is 3 hours. Any drive on the highway can be viewed as “a simple drive” but I think it’s more of how long that “simple drive” takes. You’re essentially commiting to driving a quarter of the day and there’s no telling what time you’d be getting back. Not saying I won’t come out to the tournaments but that drive is more of something that requires extra planning when compared to trips that take half the time.
I like hearing this broken record about the time it takes to get to Charlotte, no offense. This is the boundary that I have been speaking of since two threads ago. NC is growing with every tournament, and can only continue to grow from there. With that being said, Charlotte has been making great strides to go to these tournaments that are the same times/distance that everyone describes. And with that, I’m not expecting the same commitment from everyone. I do hate to hear that a good number of vets can’t make it because of this, and I’m sorry to hear that. And I have nothing against you for those reasons. Now, if we can have those who can make it to these tournaments from other parts of the state, the state community would exponentially grow even faster. All it takes is that little bit of effort to try and plan ahead when you have the resources to do it. Again, I’m not saying I’m expecting all of NC to start showing up to our events or anything, it’s just that we need to figure out some way to overcome this variable called time and cancel it from the equation. I do apologize if any of my posts have been considered “dick talk”, it’s just been on my mind for a while and I felt that it needed to be addressed
.
These two things go hand in hand. This discussion by itself will bring more attention to the next time a tournament is held. You can never take time out as a factor because it will always be one, but you can however increase the hype for the tournament to get more people interested in coming out.
Brian “Tactiks” is saying that the next tournament he has set for sure is Aug 20th, so mark your calendars. He’s going to be making an event both on FB and on here. The only bad part that I can see from this is that it’s probably the same day as EZ, which would suck. Hopefully, it’s not, and we can start seeing the planning process for it. It would have been done quicker, but like i said in a previous post, he just had a baby, so he has his mindset on dad mode and not gaming mode atm. And I’ll try to help out with keeping tournament on the spotlight so people will see it.
I understand not wanting to drive that far, as I personally loathe driving myself. Gas is expensive, and the highways aren’t getting any better to drive.
And yes, I agree that they haven’t advertised very well on SRK. I’ve definitely brought that issue up with them before, and it’s an important point because SRK is the backbone of the NC FG community, not Facebook. So I don’t blame anyone who simply didn’t know about the tournaments.
I’m just trying to make sure that there wasn’t some other underlying problem why people weren’t willing to show up that people were keeping to themselves. Advertisement and distance are definitely understandable, and while the distance issue can’t be helped, communication can always be improved.
However FOR THE LAST TIME, WE HOST ON SATURDAYS NOT SUNDAYS. REPEAT, **SATURDAYS. **THIS PAST TOURNAMENT IS THE LONE EXCEPTION, DUE TO EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES.
I’ll be honest here. Charlotte is no further than 2 hours from Durham. Been there plenty of times and I wouldn’t mind getting back there some time. My problem is I don’t have the money to travel to tournies right now.
As long as the question is “why should I drive 3 hours” instead of “who wants to go 6 hours out of state,” NC will continue to be free to anyone who comes here.
Re: Not being a dick in person, I’m really not a dick here either, I just speak up when I hear people say stuff that strikes me as off, and I rarely hear people saying things in person that require said speaking up. People are just more open on forums is all.
But yeah there’s not really any hidden reason why I haven’t been to a Charlotte tourney yet, every time I’ve been, it’s been about 3 hours really, and that’s enough time to get to Richmond where I could play someone like RyRy. Lucky’s and EZ are about an hour - hour and 20 fro me, so that’s literally double the drive, for probably half the number of people. With gas prices / shakey car, it’s not a good investment unless people were carpooling. (which, if there was a Raleigh carpool, I wouldn’t mind going every once in a while).
There’s no Disrespect meant to Charlotte players here, you guys have lots of good comp. I don’t think anyone’s reason why they’re not driving is WHO is up there, if thats what you guys were worried about =P
Now we’re getting into the physics of time and space. I’m not making any worm holes to get to Charlotte… that could rip the fabric of our reality apart. Can’t be having gatherings in the dark dimension, too many demons trying to stick it in your butt.
To quote the Jimmy… “SPIN IT TO WIN IT!”
THIS.
We need to turn our attention outward, we’re not going to get on the same level as these out of staters without being out of staters ourselves. I’m willing to travel to out of state tournaments now and I’m sure there’s others, so let’s make it happen!
@Players here on SRK: Who wants to play in tournaments seriously and who just wants to have fun? I’m assuming if you want to play seriously you’re also gonna want to win some cash for your hard work and prove yourself against high ranked players. If you’re playing just for fun money coming into the pockets isn’t the big issue, but instead too much money out of the pockets. Just curious as to how a majority of the NC players feel.
To put it simple - I play tournaments seriously because I’ve put something on the line (whether it be money, pride, etc.) to test how well I fair against opponents of like or higher caliber, the amount of mind games involved to win and a love for competing. It’s never been about the money for me, because I do other things for that.
Myself, and 3 others are going. I actually have a friend who used to go to all the nc stuff with me but moved to Texas who is flying in for it since he’s good friends with Ed lol. I heard Seventh is gonna try to make too and I have another Tekken player that I also got that is trying to go.
I usually don’t to Charlotte tournaments because of two things:
I never hear about them
When I do hear about them it’s too late and I already made plans for that date
I’m entirely willing to Y’all seriously need to step up your advertising cause it’s a shame when the majority of players within your own state aren’t even aware that there’s a tournament going on. Also if you’re aiming for your next tournament on the 20th then that poses a problem (pretty much the same exact problem as last time that you already stated). I have prior commitments 6th and 27th and between the 13th and 20th I’d rather choose the later date to give players more time.
