My 2 cents as far as Charlotte tournaments: I don’t like the idea of driving 3 hours anymore, unless I’m going out of state. It takes me half that time to drive to Fayetteville, so that’s not as big of a deal. Wasn’t this last tournament in Charlotte on a Sunday? Definitely not feasible for me.

That being said, I’d like to at least make it to one of the tournaments to see what you guys are doing. Maybe next time around.

Da fuck is a Charlotte?

For real though Sunday just doesn’t work for alot of people who have to drive 3+ hours and got work in the morning.

that is the first tournament charlotte has had on a Sunday.

Pretty much this, Shiki. 3 hours is quite a bit more for in state comp.

It sure would suck to have to work the day after a tournament.

Congrats Will in Marvel and spinning Jon Layton in MK. Good matches to everyone I played in AE. I seem to be having some trouble placing well in Fayetteville tournaments haha.

Raleigh isn’t 3 hours from Charlotte.

Also, what East said.

Every time I’ve driven from Durham to Charlotte, it’s taken about 2.5 to 3 hours. Raleigh is most likely further. You guys might make it in less than that because you drive like madmen, but I generally don’t speed. Google Maps gives me about 2.5 hours from my house to the place where you guys had the tourney yesterday.

the charlotte tourneys arent too well advertised on SRK. the people who run the charlotte tourneys just aren’t involved with srk, or most of the nc community on a personal level. tactiks does not know a lot of people.

most of the other tournaments are organized by vets of the community with lots of experience and bigger fgc networks.

Ummmm, I get to the raleigh convention center in 2.5 hrs going 70-75 mph on I-85, it’s not that hard of a drive that you are describing. Fayetteville, RDU, and Greensboro are within that set parameter, give or take 15-20 mins. And you mean to tell me that this is what’s stopping you? You can’t say it’s too far when it’s a simple drive. Whether it’s on I-40 to I-85, or Highway 24 to 73. So, I would still like to hear this discussion continue because this needs to be address to the community.

And I can agree with West about it not being advertised enough, but the TO just had a baby recently, so he’s going to be occupied for a little while.

Will posts a million links in every single one of his posts in the weeks preceding an EZ tournament, I can hardly remember the last post I saw about a charlotte tournament. I’m also pretty sure he personally contacts people to reach out to them and ask them if they are coming. He does this for a reason. I’ve only been involved with the community for 3-4 months now but its been an active few months and besides this sunday tournament (which is really hard to make for reasons already stated) I can’t recall many charlottte tourneys that I know/knew about.

3 hours IS a long time though, a few of us are going to a tourney in virginia this weekend and thats what, 4 hours? Still, I’d make the charlotte drive to a tournament but if we have monthlies at EZ this big thats half the distance away, it wouldn’t be to often.

nobody has to drive out of their way to play games with you. I might be reading too much into your post, but I feel if people are telling you to your face that it’s too far or inconvenient for them then that’s the truth of the matter and there isn’t much more to say. Basically telling people that they’re making shit up doesn’t make that drive anymore appealing. You’re turning it into a responsibility, like visiting an dying aunt or something.

I don’t intend it to sound like a responsibility, and it shouldn’t. And people shouldn’t have to drive out of their way to play games with us. And that can be said for us as well. We shouldn’t have to go somewhere just to play casuals with someone that’s 2 hrs away, or we shouldn’t have to drive a sketchy stretch of roads going every which away to get to a venue just SO we can have those casuals at that Tournament. You would think by now, if we can get 68 people to EZ in Fayetteville, and we can get around 40 in Greensboro, why is it that we can’t even access some of those numbers in Charlotte? I can see more advertising in the future, and see better connections with the community, and I’m afraid even with that, we won’t see similar numbers because of the lack of help from other communities.

I’m slowly but surely turning into a cranky old man, and as such, driving more than an hour or so is just not very appealing to me unless it’s for something special. I just rode down to Orlando and back about a week ago and that was about 10 hours, trading off with someone, but that was Orlando, a place I’ve never been to, for about five consecutive days. Priorities, man.

Another thing to take into account is that I like to go to church on Sunday. This is a personal thing, so it doesn’t really relate to the “community issue” of why Charlotte tournaments aren’t attended by people outside of the Charlotte area. In any case, driving 2.5 hours down and having to drive 2.5 hours back at around 10PM at night makes it that much harder for me to drag my old man rear out of bed in the morning on Sunday.

But yeah, generally speaking, I don’t like to spend more than an hour inside a car if I can help it when I’m going somewhere for a day only. Again, cranky old man syndrome. Your mileage may vary.

EDIT: Nobody is making you guys drive out to play casuals in other locations. It’s definitely appreciated, but at the end of the day, as Jon mentioned, that’s your decision to make. I know it may sound ungrateful, but it’s just games. You’re definitely not attracting other people to Charlotte by getting indignant that you guys are willing to travel out that far and others are not.

The other crappy thing about Sundays is while I’m not a church-going man, I am a work going man Monday morning. I’m not driving all the way to Charlotte on a Sunday when I have to be at work at 6:45 am.

We usually host ours on Saturdays. The main reason that particular tournament was held Sunday was that the venue double booked us and had to move to the Sunday.

Does everybody turn into a complete dick on the forums? A lot of the people I see posting on the forums are not the same people I met at EZ. Do people just smile in your face and then as soon as you’re out of sight talk trash on the forums? I got to learn a lot of the faces and names of people who post up on SRK now, but when I read some of the stuff its a complete 180 from what I expected minus a few people. This whole RDU, Charlotte, Down By the River players talk is too much. We’re all NC players, nuff said. Stop trying to argue on the forums about something that you are not willing to talk about face to face with someone. That is why players such as Demo, Matt, Blake, and a few others I typically try to listen to because I know what they post on the forums they will also tell me to my face. I have nothing but respect and no beef with any person that can/will do that. With that said, lets end the separation stuff and try to help NC grow bigger and better. WE pretty much lost to out of state players in OUR own home at EZ.

@Irish Bear: I remember reading about the RESE tournament a long time back when the discussion first came up for Sunday or next month, so I completely understand that situation. I know myself and some others were really hype about it, but for whatever reasons we did not make it out THIS time. You said yourself you read the Facebook posts so that part is already covered. One thing I personally believe is that a lot of NC players for the most part just want to have fun. If you’re driving out 3+ hours to a tournament for just one day you’re not gonna want to come back home empty handed. Not a lot of people are that serious about a game and just want to meet new people while playing a game they both enjoy. I’ve been to Charlotte before and they have very good respectable players that I met. If you’re going all over the place competing at every tournament I highly respect that, but if you’re just trying to find one near you and have a little fun on a weekend day then that is highly respected as well.

edit:Blah blah blah busy all the time.
Good luck charlotte guys hope I can make it out sometime, when my schedule clears up.

Yes

well i dont know much ppl around, but faytsville tourney make me hype, meet all good player was one thing…

concord tourney i learn much more above certain subject and match up, maybe is good time to switch pad to stick.

My crew and I aren’t going to travel 3 hours unless it’s a special occasion, it’s not so much it being Charlotte as it being 3 hours. It’d be different if I didn’t have to travel back around 12-1 am and get back 3-4 am or so. I really can’t say I care enough to make that kind of trip especially as someone who isn’t really playing for anything more than my own self improvement at the game and the fun of it. I don’t make enough money to make it out to even every EZ and I know even more when school starts i’ll begin to miss those as well but whatever that’s my reasoning since it’s the discussion at the moment.

i would love to see to you say all that shit you said in your last post to smallwonder to his face. since you said people wont say shit if it was face to face.

having fun is important but people dont travel 2 hours or more just to “have fun” people come to tournaments mostly to compete and win.and yeah alot of players are serious about the games what do you mean not alot? i think its mostly you thats not serious since it sounds like you play alot of games but your not really good at any of them.
