more like getting raped by the wesker/insert any char here/phoenix teams.
found some really unbalanced stuff with tbonne/haggar/shulk
need some more testing, but impressed with it atm.
i play trish on my team so i know about her cheese
also beams are kinda ass vs wolvy especially ironmans since he can crouch under it and beserker slash is random as shit
fuck wolverine
Here’s the thing about Berserker Slash that makes me think it’s not as crazy as it initially seems; the invincibility isn’t instant, and it doesn’t last up to the active frames. What this means is that if someone is playing a good zoning team, they can put something out that’s active for a long time and even if Wolverine manages to get Berserker Slash out, there’s a good chance of him getting hit before the attack becomes active. Yes, it can go behind someone, but the H Berserker Slash doesn’t go behind you from fullscreen. In Iron Man’s case, you’d probably want to do Repulsor Blast instead of Uni Beam, seeing as it hits in front and behind, plus you can cancel to Repulsor Spread for coverage and safety.
Another thing about Wolverine is that you pretty much have to play him point, because similar to Zero, he’s extremely reliant on assists (unless he has a ton of bar). But what makes it even worse is that unlike Zero, he has no good assists, so he makes very little contribution to your team outside of DHC potential. Seriously though, being reliant on assists is a big liability when you have so many versatile characters that can fight without them in this game.
The fact that Zero is reliant on assists means that he’s very vulnerable to tactics that are designed to blow up assists. He’s got good pokes regardless, but you still have to get in, and without an assist to cover his mobility, that’s hard. It’s enough of a weakness that I have a hard time seeing him as better than Wesker, who also likes to have assists around, but doesn’t need them to actually fight. He’s also reliant on assists in order to bring his damage up to par; without an assist, Zero has a hard time doing a lot of damage. You should definitely play him on point most of the time, but that doesn’t change the fact that without an assist, Zero becomes non-threatening on offense. He’s also part of the no-stamina club where pretty much any character can rape him in a single hit, same as Ammy.
Ammy zoning = functional. It doesn’t have to be amazing, it just has to work. It basically gives her the option to zone someone when she’s having difficulty getting in, which is really situational. There are very few characters that can effectively keep Ammy out, her airdash is really good and she has great options to transition between different ranges of fighting. Most importantly, once she gets in, she’s pretty much there to stay, provided you’re smart about it. Dante is one of the few characters who can take advantage of her range deficiency and punish her solidly for trying to get in, but if she gets in on Dante, he’s toast. He doesn’t have anything that can deal with her rush, his fastest attack is 8 frames and Ammy on offense is almost always attacking behind plus frames. This also sort of diminishes her low life problem, because she’s a bitch to hit due to her small size and when she’s in you’re going to be blocking. Also has a great assist for offensive characters in Cold Star. Assists do help her get inside, but she doesn’t need them to create mixups.
Man, I thought Wesker was overrated a little, but it seems like in NC it’s the opposite somewhat. Wesker seriously has so many tools, he can do a whole lot. He can rushdown or runaway, his mobility is great, he can control the screen with Samurai Edge, he’s got great stamina and can deal huge damage, doesn’t use meter, mixups off of his Samurai Edge reset are insane (and he can end every combo with this), command grab mixup pretty much forces you to jump or bust out something invincible, which leaves you open to airthrows or baited reversals/counters, etc etc.
I love Trish in this game. She may eventually go up on my list, but her damage is very low to be too high up in a game like this. Besides, the RH>hardtag>unblockable strat is good until you jump.
Wesker has no flaws whatsoever. The only (non-Phoenix) character he has a hard time with is Dog. The ONLY one. And no, I haven’t been getting raped by any Weskers; I’m doing the raping.
raper rape raping etc etc
If Trish does Round Harvest off of a knockdown, i.e. you block it meaty then you can’t jump, or at least I’m pretty sure you can’t! This involves first hitting someone though, which diminishes the potential gayness of the tactic.
But yeah I’m with Angus/Matt, she has great zoning and utility, normals etc but her damage isn’t so good. She’s like Storm with better normals but without the overheads…both have great utility, just in different ways. Trish could kill you with knockdown > RH > unblockable, but Storm could just Elemental Rage DHC > one of several characters instead of the few that have low assists, and the DHC trick is much more likely to kill people. But yeah I’m trying to play Trish/Storm/Arthur lately because Arthur is fun. My main issue seems to be getting people off of me (no access to defensive assists, few invincible moves). But I can throw all sorts of things at people.
I’m really hoping that game play is a lot better than it looks from the previews. I also don’t like how the life bar shakes as they get hit…it looks kinda meh.
MORRIGAN CAN FLY?!
Somehow I feel this shouldn’t have been as shocking to me as it was.
Blake: Zero does about the same damage as Wesker even without assist. You’ve seen his rejump loops haven’t you? With super at the end it does about 550-600, which is a bit more than what Wesker does isn’t it? Wesker’s edge over him is that he doesn’t need an assist to combo off of his throws, where as Zero does. As far as being zoned, the more I play Zero and use level 3 buster, the more I realize that zoning isn’t that big of a deal really. Any random level 3 buster hit leads to over half life and it’s got huge durability, basically beating out any other projectiles on the screen. It’s fast, gives frame advantage, can be done in the air, etc etc.
Zero has some mixups outside of an assist, mainly with varied timing of air dash and j.C. I honestly feel like Zero without an assist is more threatening than Wesker without one but time will tell on that. Either way they are both good and both have their strengths. I just feel like Wesker’s linearity might limit his growth further down the line.
Kinda crazy that a character that has wings and flies in every cut scene she’s been in has flight mode.
Who’s zoning do you feel is better between storm and trish, since you play both? I’m just curious.
hey all,
don’t mean to spam the thread or anything but we’re just getting the word out about the next big tournament in Blacksburg, VA. had a great turnout at the last event and we’re trying to double it this time around!

hope some of you all can make it out, if not, thanks for reading!
Rumor: KOF XIII at EVO? | Dream Cancel
If this is true, and I can get decent to good at MK, I may do something crazy and hit Evo.
I have serious doubts though.
Yeah that won’t happen.
Also, I find it funny that someone (at least Matt) agrees with me on the Doom thing. I’ve been saying since like week two that I didn’t know how he hit people because of advancing guard and have been told that “Doom beats advancing guard. His normals are dash-cancelable. Blah blah. Words.” coming from people that didn’t play him and thought it sounded good on paper, until they realized that beating advancing guard in training modes =/= beating it in a match. Score one for me being right, assuming my opinion was heard over the cacophony of marvel talk from players with more experience in fighting games.
Also, good shit Tom. And I updated the first post for you Will.
Ahh Frank the Tank i’ve heard good things about you hahaha. Yea i only got on xbox so i’d have to hit you up sometime before I’m out of greenville for good.
I still don’t think Doom loses that hard to advancing guard with an assist. Just because you lost and Matt agreed doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put more effort into finding counter measures to what was giving you trouble, this is how characters end up underdeveloped and everyone just ends up with XXX / Wesker / Phoenix teams when there are so many other good characters. Doom losing to advancing guard when you air dash in the same pattern with j.B over and over, sure. But he can do much more.
Not that you were gonna do that but yeah.
I’m not playing Storm well enough to say, but how I see it atm is that she runs more than Trish does. I say that because I feel like Trish’s options at mid range are significantly better. Storm is incredibly versatile, but she seems to be at her best either really far away from you or really close, and with support. Trish fills that gap of controlling mid-range space. That’s just how I see it. I feel like Low Voltage is an excellent all-purpose projectile, while Whirlwind and Lightning Sphere are good, but not in all situations. I would also say that Storm needs another character to help her do any one thing truly efficiently, while Trish can run a basic game fairly well on her own.
So I guess on a basic level, Trish has the advantage, but technically Storm would be better if you’re careful with your ranges and using assists well. Team-wise and SYNERGISTICALLY, Storm is significantly better while Trish is a more solid solo character. Of course, there is Round Harvest, but Storm has two OTG supers, one that opens up DHC trick, and ice storm in general, which combos off of and into basically every super in the game for good damage…and all the other nonsense that super does.
Just a reminder that we’re hosting again on Friday at Elite Zone in Fayetteville. I’ll be there around 6PM and it’s only $5 to play for the whole day with the deal Kevin worked out with the owner. We had around 20 players last week and it would be nice to get around 25-30 players this week. I still want to see players from all the other major areas in NC to make it out cause I want to make sure that everyone approves of the venue before we start hosting tournaments there. If you have extra monitors, systems, games, etc. then bring them along, there is a lot of space for us to put extra setups.
Josiah, if you still wanna run a test stream just bring your equipment with you. The owner has a second network and is willing to help you set it up.
Pretty sure I don’t give a shit that no one gives a shit, seeing as how you’re usually wrong and I’m almost always right, my opinion is the only one that matters.
BTW, KOF 13 is not going to be very good.
BTW, KOF 2002 alone gets much more play than SF4.
Myself and a few others from Cary are gonna be making the trip up May 6th on that friday, assuming people are ok with the venue and still going and planning on bringing a PS3 and a monitor.
Yo son… SON… Street Fighter X Tekken is gonna be THAT SHIT SON!!
