I Want A SSF4 Friend (Triangle)
I am looking for a top tier or at least a better than average fighting gaming friend–specifically SSF4 & MvC3. I play on PSN, but it doesn’t matter if you have an Xbox or what not. I’m looking to pick your brain, watch you play, and then go over some basic and advanced things & be your (hopefully good and maybe even best, who knows??) friend as well. Aside from gaming, I graduated from UNC and I’m going to State in the fall. I run a 5K in 27:00, so I’m not fast but I keep myself in good shape. I recently ended things with my GF and I’m not eager to find any female companionship outside of the normal needs right about now. I do have guy friends, and they game some, but none of them are as high level as I am as far as First Person Shooters–or gaming in general.
Right now I only play MW2 on XBL and my k/d is a 3.95, close to 200 nukes, and I can literally run any play style at this point. I’ve been a top tier FPS player since I was in 9th grade, but I’ve played them since 7th grade. I played a PC game (TFC which is a Half-Life Mod–which is the nerd lingo for add-on… not cheat) and was in the 7th best American clan and the 17th best European clan by the time it was all said and done. The euro clan was more impressive as I had to account for lag at all points and Europeans were better at that game than Americans. My euro clan would’ve been top 8 US. In Halo 2, I was in the 3rd best online clan (according the the Bungie leader boards) and we didn’t cheat. I gamed at a high level in Halo 3 reaching 50 easily multiple times on multiple accounts and my numbers in MW2 speak for themselves.
Basically FPS’s are starting to bore me and with the state of these games right now, I really just don’t like the FPS community anymore. After the black ops launch, I started to realize how much FPS developers have really started to get away from their core values in order to even out the playing field and make sub-par gamers become at least average now $$$. Not everyone is supposed to be good and the randomness and inconsistencies across most FPS’s as of late have gotten me to the point where I’m ready to put the controller down for a fightstick. I could literally talk your head off about why FPS’s have pissed me off recently with unbalanced balance, but I’ll keep it short. If that’s something that interests you, I can definitely teach you what I look for and how I approach all FPS’s and help you become a better gamer than what you are. My playing style isn’t about how well you can aim either, it’s all about a strategical approach.
Right now I only own MvC3 on PS3, but I will get a madcatz TE fightstick and SSF4 (FOR PS3 even though I have an Xbox) within the next 3 weeks once I get my first paycheck for a new job that I’m starting at the end of the week. I work 20 hours a week M-F and I’ll be free for the summer as it’s only a temporary position–which is good because I’ll be a full-time student in the fall. I live at home and will continue to do so until I enroll in grad school which should be within the next year and a half. I would prefer you live in the Durham/Chapel Hill area, but if you live in Raleigh then I could commute. For a number of reasons you would not want to game in my house, so I’m hoping we can game at yours. I have a small HDTV and I can easily pack my stuff up xbox/ps3 and take it just about anywhere.
Please don’t be an average gamer here as I’m starting fresh with fighting games, and if I have a much higher ceiling than you, then that’s pointless because I’ll surpass you rather quickly. I am a gamer and I want to understand the game and get competitive on a sort of high level. I don’t care if you’re 18 or older than me, like I said, this isn’t me wanting to hook-up with a dude because I like girls. I curse like a sailor, don’t give a damn about being politically correct, and I’m just a regular guy for the most part. BAD WORDS (edit) are all part of my regular everyday vernacular. You have to be able to handle that stuff because that’s just part of me venting my frustrations as I learn the games and get bullshitted.
Keep in mind that I am starting SSF4 from scratch. I’m decent at MvC3, but I haven’t really played a lot of ranked matches. I’ve been trolling the bottom and getting my team together. I already have the new avenger achievement/trophy and I’ve done 10 missions with 24 characters while playing on a regular ps3 controller. Trust me, I might be new to fighting games, but my aptitude is pretty high. I’m all for learning frames, timing, and whatever other nuances you may know. Just hit me up and teach me the ways of pwnage. I have a youtube channel so you can see my MvC3 skills, but I will definitely get better once I get and adjust to a fightstick.
You don’t have to be anything like me aside from a patient gamer and a non-criminal/sketchy person. I definitely don’t want to be around a deviant. I have too much going for me right now to involve myself with such madness. I don’t do any drugs or drink sodas. So to some extent I’m definitely a purist and I don’t want to get in any legal trouble ever. I don’t care if you drink sodas or smoke cigarettes or anything like that, but I just wanted you to know where I stand. So just keep all of that in mind and just send me an e-mail. I will say this because I’ve gotten this before all of the time when people found out how good I was at H2 on campus, to some extent gaming cannot be taught. If you’re an average or below average gamer who just wants me to teach you to be good at FPS’s and you’re not already successful at any type of competitive game, then you’re barking up the wrong tree–and that isn’t the purpose of this post. I want to learn SSF4 & MvC3 and possibly teach you how to play FPS’s. I’m only interested in MvC3, SSF4, and possibly MK9 though I’ve always detested Mortal Kombat. We will and need to be friends outside of gaming, but I definitely want gaming to be a large part of it and hopefully we’ll make each other better.
P.S. I DON’T EVER WANT TO PLAY IN ANY TOURNAMENTS, SO DON’T WORRY ABOUT HAVING ANY COMPETITION FROM ME if that is a reservation. I played in few tourneys regionally and at college while I played H2. Though I won most and my lowest placing was second, I just did not enjoy the tournament scene hence me only playing in 4 and foregoing playing in a national tourney which I qualified for. I just don’t want to do that at all. I want to advance and play with and learn from good players locally so I can do well online.
You want to be competitive at a high level so that you can perform well online?
Well you could come to NC gatherings.
Good luck with lag and bullshit tactics online though.
I would come to gatherings, but I mainly play online and such. I won’t have a lot to go to gatherings in the coming months. I’m okay with people trying to lame me out, that’s just the nature of online play. Having a group of people to learn from and play with locally is ideal, but like I said, time is of the essence.
First of all, I like how you came in here, I admire that. If you’re down to learn how to play I could help you out with that. I must say though that don’t worry about getting good at it online. Lag will frustrate the hell outta you both trying to defend or attack. Akuma,Wesker, and Dante scrubs as there seems to be no rhyme or reason for what can hit you at times. I’m not sure how FPS tourneys work but if its anything like the Madden crowd I’ve been a part of for 2 years I don’t blame ya for staying away from it. The tourneys I’ve been a part of over the past 10 years here have been more of less a fun yet competitive in nature. Thats what I’d struve for personally in terms of your fighting game aspirations. Also, don’t know if you’re doing this right now or not, but don’t strictly use those missions as combo code. Use them more as a tool to know what that character is capable of. Put your own twists in there and figure out some different directions to take them if you’re serious about advancing your game. If its frame data your looking for, just pick up the guide, it has it all in there. But seriously if you’re looking to get better hit up some of those gatherings they’ve been having. If you’re looking for more 1 on 1 training don’t be shy to hit me up.
PS I’m gonna get to another gathering sometime, just need to work out some sort of transportation or finally get comfortable driving this damn stick shift my gf got.
I appreciate it. 1-on-1 is what I want right now. From what I’ve heard about the Madden crowd and what I’ve seen on TV, it wasn’t quite like that. Those dudes are loud and ignorant, but for FPS’s it’s like angry nerds yelling and talking a bunch of trash. I got a lot of it because I don’t look like a typical gamer and people acknowledged that they didn’t think I would be that good just from looking at me. The last tournament i went to for Halo 2, I was the best player there from the piedmont region. I gave out my gamertag, and that was a huge mistake. I got on and had like 20 friend requests on top of the clan friend requests I got regularly as a result of being on my team. I was offered a full sponsorship and got harassed for a month and a half about that. I’m just not the the type of person who is going to get super serious about a game no matter how good I get. I was just over all of that.
Thats whats up, you definitely pegged the Madden crowd, I literally almost saw a fight break out over who got blown out worse. I’d still advise hitting up some tournies along the way though. Its the best way the test out new strats or see some new ones. Plus most everyone I know that attends the tournies around here are very approachable when it comes trading strategies and so on. Not something I’d say you’d have to do now, but just something to keep in mind. Beating up on the same Akuma/Ryu/Dante scrubs all day ain’t gonna improve your game like hitting up a few tournies down the road will. Just something to keep in mind. But let me know if and when you’d wanna get up and I’ll see what I can do to get you better.
I inboxed you.
by “pegged the madden crowd”…do you mean the unemployed gangsta wannabe’s that have nothing else better to do than play a game?
