Non-Fighting game Capcom chars. in 2-d fighters

Capcom USA had the rights during CFE, if you check the back of the box of the PS2 version it says “STREET FIGHTER is a trademark of CAPCOM USA, INC. which may be regestered in certain jurisdictions.” CFE, Red Earth and Darkstalkers are copyrighted to Capcom Co., LTD (AKA Capcom of Japan as we call them.) And then Namco x Capcom comes out, (but it looks like that game began production long before, doesn’t credit Capcom USA anywhere with copyright info that I know of) no one knows what the whole rights thing is about but it looks like crossovers are out of it, or for COJ they have to register them in “certain jurisdictions” or something. Even in Japan whenever they talk about CFE/J in Arcadia, they put down the copright info of Capcom USA and Capcom of Japan. Capcom USA for the SFers, COJ for everyone else.

Yes. CoJ sold the SF rights to CoA. They practically felt that they had done all the could with the franchise & wasn’t much else left to do. Hence, they sold the SF rights to CoA to keep the series under the Capcom wing. I’m not even sure of the current status of the long-awaited SFA movie sequel. CFE is supposedly their last 2d fighter.

Coming in October 25 last I heard. Udoneko (Erik Ko, editor of the SF Comics) over at the SF Comics forum mentioned it in one of his last posts. He just said upcoming Anime and said he couldn’t reveal more. The Anime was supposed to come out this June on the 28th in Japan, it got delayed. It was going to be called SFZ/A 2, now it’s being called SFZ/A Generations.

Thanks. I suppose it’ll be endorsed by CoA now that they own the rights. I’m not too sure about this, but I believe that this is one of the very first SF licenses to be endorsed by CoA. I could be wrong, though. It’s supposed to be some crappy Universal Studios fanride:

www.showscan.com/film_clips/Street%20Fighter.wmv

I’ve seen that before, it was posted at SRK some time ago. I believe it was a fan made film, not sure though.

The whole rights deal seems, confusing. SFA3 for the PSP was premeired at E3, not a Japanese show like TGS. And even when a Japanese article mentioned the game, they referred to is as SF Alpha, not Zero. Strange. As far as I know Studio Production 2 is working on it, the same people who did CFE and DS on the PSP among other games.

I’m not really sure what that video was from (or if it was indeed endorsed by CoA). In any event I hope that CoA makes good use of the SF license, rather than have it sit on their shoulders. They’ll more than likely take it slow, (putting out posters, action figures & merchandise) to get newbies (or would-be fans) into the series.

Could this possibly mean that we’ll see a SF4 or a SFA4? I remember back shortly after SF3 3s hit arcades, rumors speculated that it would be the last in the series to close the trilogy. Now, I’m not sure if that goes for the SFA series as well.

Hasn’t the SF anime in Jp supposedly been canned?

I really have no info on the new SF Anime, only that Manga Video is backing it. They backed the other SFZ/Alpha Anime because SF2V made them a lot of money in the US, (SF2V was a big ol’ canceled flop in Japan) if it wasn’t for them it wouldn’t of happened. We live in an age where if an Anime does well in the US, it can promote a sequel. That’s how the Ninja Scroll TV Anime came about, (Ninja Scroll movie is a lot more popular in the US) another season of Big O, a sequel to the Rurouni Kenshin OVA series, etc. Our dollars actually matter now, YAY! Heh, when Manga sold the SFZ/A Anime in the US they billed it as a sequel to SF2V. Lol, it has NOTHING to do with SF2V… However I have no freaking idea what the new Anime is about, the secrecy surrounding it is… ludicrous… rumor has it it’s the continuation of Ryu vs. Gouki(Akuma). For the longest time, Manga video showed a fan artsy picture of Sakura and Gouki on there website and that picture said ‘Street Fighter Alpha 2,’ that pic is long gone.

Capcom on the record has said there will be no SFZ4, DS4, MVC3, CVS3 or SF3 part 4, they’ve done all they can with those games. Off the record, there was an interview after a video game show where they said “If the users support CFE, Hyper SF2 AE and SF3 TS for the PS2 (sold seperately in Japan) they could get more games, another SFA, another SF3, anything.” I’ll post it up tomorrow, it’s a bit rumory, (like everything about Capcom…) take it with a grain of salt. There hasn’t been in on the record account of no SF4 that I know of. Even in the SF Eternal Challenge Book, Funamizu said “IF we WERE to make a sequel, it wouldn’t be for their 15th Anniversary, it would be for their 20th Anniversary.” Not that IF and WERE mean anything from a guy who left Capcom but it’s better than hearing “Their will never be an SF4!” like they said about a bunch of other games.

Man, the only thing I know about ‘SF4’ is whatever has appeared in the Letters section of Play Magazine. Sometime after E3 of last year, one of the letter answerers responded to the usual “Where’s SF4?” letter they always get. They said that someone from Capcom asked then if they wanted a sequel to SF to be 2D or 3D, and Play magazine said “2D of course.” Then we hear the news about Capcom USA getting the rights to SF, which first appeared on Akiman’s website. So… we could GUESS that Capcom USA was the one that asked Play. A bit before Capcom USA getting the rights too was that survey they held in California, I forget the details of the survey but people wanted another SF.

The next time someone sent Play a letter “Where’s SF4?” They said “SF4 is not as far away as you think.” This was about, roughly six months ago.

And the last time they sent them a “Where’s SF4?” letter a few months ago, they said “SF4 was in the cards at one point, who knows.” So I guess we are back to square one.

As you probably know, Capcom USA is making Final Fight Streetwise now.

Rei from BoF3 and Fou Lou from BoF4.

What’s really a mystery to me is, even if CoA attempts a SF4 or SFA4, will CoJ be developing them? We know that CoA now has the licensing rights, but that doesn’t mean that CoJ can’t develope them (if CoA gives them the okay).

Similar to with Final Fight Revenge. The franchise (then) owned by CoJ, & was developed (& strangly) released only in Jp. Eventhough, it would seem that CoJ’s burnt out from 2d fighters, it’s more than likely possible for them to still develope them. Only main difference would be CoA, owning the rights to the titles.

In any event, if SF4 or SFA4 turn up anything like the disasterous FFR, then the SF franchise would be better left untouched.

THE WINGS OF DEATH! THE MASTER OF DESTRUCTION…!

… Garr! (BoF3)

as much as id like to see protoman in a 2D fighter
itd be a million times more awesome if they used the Mega Man robot masters were made as fighting characters

Quickman anyone? OMFG

I’ll just be happy when a decent new 2d capcom fighter gets announced. (Still hoping for another huge crossover title like CvS3 or CFJ2, I can still remember how hyped I was when I first heard about MvC2))

Capcom needs to put some characters from their wrestling/fighting Saturday Night Slam Masters:
Gunloc(cool name ^_^)
Scorpion(cool character)
Jumbo
Haggar (for goodness sake)
Capcom needs to release another Saturday Night Slam Masters game since it’s the shit

Here’s that interview as promised. It was posted by Iggy of Madman’s Cafe, he’s super reliable but even he says it’s rumory, and we all know official anouncements >>>>>>> off the record ones. Anyway, Iggy posted the on July 6, 2004. He put it up to kind of end the “No more 2D games fighters after CFJ” rumor that never bore an official announcement. Well, to kind of end it since this ain’t an official announcement either…

"Nikaiten has mirrored an interesting post of someone who he asked [someone] at the public demo of Third Strike PS2. Since this guy doesn’t say who he interviewed, I hope no one will take all he says as set in stone. But on the other hand, since it fits with what we know of the current state of Capcom…

-Is it true Cap doesn’t have the strength to create another 2D game anymore?
-It can’t be said blandly, but it’s a fact our 2D department has decreased a lot. Of a 20+ games lineup, we only have 1 2D fighter game [Jam of course]. But since the users are everything, if they ask for some, there is a possibility they get one. It really depends on the user’s reaction[it’s hard to say more blandly “buy PS2 3rd and the Jam if you want more”]. It could be anything, Zero 4, 3 4th, or even SF4. [I think it was Funamizu who said there wouldn’t be anymore SF3 or Zero. He also said the same thing about Vampire(Darkstalkers). Things change, as they say]

-How is Jam going?
-It’s going smoothly. It should be released in the arcades by October, and the consumer version should be released before the end of the year.

-Why no Third Strike on X Box?
-Because we don’t think it would sell well, surely less than a few thousand copies."

From me - The account does seem accurate. The dates of CFJ’s Arcade and home release in Japan did coincide with what he said.

In case you didn’t know, Capcom originally was going to not put SF3 Third Strike on the X Box, they changed their mind about it like the above interview states. However after SFAC (HSF2AE+SF3TS) sold well enough in the US (in Japan both games sold as two seperate discs) they decided to release it for the Japanese X Box as two games in one also, followed by a US release.

Erik Ko, or as he calls himself Udoneko editor of the US SF comic did post in the SF Comics forum sometime ago about how HSF2AE and SF3TS became a compilation in the US. He said SCEA, Sony of America did not want to sell HSF2AE in the US since they have no faith in 2D as you probably know. But after seeing how well the game sold in Japan, they allowed it only if Capcom combined it with SF3TS.

Wow, I’m really feeding the thread that won’t die after someone quoted something I said last year. “EVERY TIME I THINK I’M OUT THEY PULL ME BACK IN!”

Sony does have a problem approving 2d titles for some odd reasons, unless they’re in some type of bundle pack. Originally, they turned down MMX4 for the ps1, then later decided to accept the title. They recently turned down SNK’s Metal Slug 3, because they felt the price was to high for the game. Yet, they approved MS 4&5. I still don’t get this.

Sony has yet to approve the MMXAC from Capcom. Capcom’s even been said to have gone through the process implementing voiceovers for MMX3 along with others in the series, simply to make the game more contemporary & acceptable.

One way CoA could make good use of the SF license is by possibly porting SF1 to the console systems (or even remaking the entire game from scratch). Start fresh & clean. I don’t understand why Capcom hasn’t done so yet (especially after releasing a bustle of SF2 versions), & the game’s not even slated for their upcoming greatest hits collection.

Is it possible that CoA could pick up & finish Capcom Fighting All Stars? It’s well known that a majority of the characters from the game weren’t of the SF license, but is there a possibility? The game was turning up rather well, up until CoJ threw the towel in. Especially after seeing how CFE turned up, it’s makes on think that Capcom should have stuck with their original idea (CFAS).

The PS2 doesn’t do 2D real well, a flaw in the system design. If you recall the original PSX had a similar problem hence Capcom ported most of their games directly the Saturn and Dreamcast. That’s why Sony has been hesistant about releasing 2D heavy games on their systems.

At this point it appears as though Capcom of Japan is focusing more on games that Japanese gamers want while Capcom of America is more in tune with what US gamers want.

The Characters that Capcom needs to put on there 2-D Fighters are…

1.Junpei (Tech Romancer)
2.Sammanosuke (Onimusha)
3.Viewtiful Joe (VJ)
4.Maximo (Maximo)
5.Ryu (BOF)
6.Leon Kennedy (RE2)
7.Claire Redfield (RE2)
8.Arthur (G&G)
9.Mike Haggar (FF)
10.Mai Ling (Warzard)
…you get where i’m goin with this

Thats just too good

Anyway Sano your info always amazes me

Leon Kennedy For Mayor!

RE chars. would just flurish in a fighting game:rolleyes:
