Nintendo 3DS - Best Handheld Today

^ I’ve heard of some people playing their friend’s imported 3DS and then coming in to cancel their reserves because it hurts their eyes. I know a big marketing point of the 3DS is the 3D but you would think that if one actually has an option to turn off something that bothers them they’d do it and that would solve the problem.

If you happen to be near PAX East this year then you have a chance of putting your hands on a 3DS and some of it’s titles early.

I thought the thing had sliders to control the 3D depth, including outright turning it off…

^ It does have that option. It may sound a bit premature for me to say this since I have not played the 3ds yet but I don’t plan on turning 3d on, I don’t even care for it, I just care for the games and having PSP like graphics on a portable is good enough for me.

I mean isn’t that common sense that you eyes will have to adjust from one screen to the next?

Did they really not think of that?

If you want PSP-like graphics on a portable can’t you just get… a PSP?

No way.

That’d make sense.

I demo’d it at Square One today. I played SSF4, Pilot Wings, and this other thing where you take a pic of yourself and shoot your face lol. I was really surprised at how great the 3d effect looked. You kind of have to find the sweet spot angle for the best possible results but its nothing uncomfortable or that would bother your eyes (but if it did you can turn it down or off). Its about the same size as a DS lite. The one thing that may kind of be wack about it is the sliding analog but its definitely better than on the PSP. Not sure if I wanna blow 300 bones on it but it was very cool. I was impressed.

How big are both screens on a 3DS vs a DS Lite? Just wondering how big they are compared to my current white DS Lite.

Its pretty much the exact size as a DSlite.

Or you could’ve paid more attention to what I posted, thats why I said "I just care for the games and having PSP like graphics on a portable ". This means that if I never got a PSP is because I didn’t care for its games (and I still don’t). DS / Nintendo games I liked on the other hand, and SSF4 on launch day is already done deal for me.

don’t take it too seriously. everyone’s a comedian on srk.

It is completely NOT a stretch to come to the conclusion I did. Perhaps you could have made your post a tad more clear?

The 3DS’ top screen is wider than the bottom. Top is 3.53 in (90 mm), bottom is 3.02 in (77 mm). Both DS Lite screens are 3 in (76 mm).

The 3DS’ biggest screen is still smaller than the DS XL’s 4.2 in (107 mm), but the whole thing isn’t nearly as bulky.

Yeah I concur, anyway I wasnt really arguing or mad at you so peace out man. So what is people in SRK picking up on launch day? I have already reserved aqua blue system with SSF4.

Black w/ SSF4. Kinda curious if bigger tourneys will start doing SSF4:3D tourneys for small cash prizes at some point during the weekend. Would be pretty fun imo.

Roger that.

I was really hoping the 3DS’s bigger screen was at least XL size. Boo-urns.

I’m planning on getting a Black 3DS with SSFIV and I’ll wait and see how the others are before I take the plunge on any of them. So far from all the previews it seems that SSFIV is the safest bet out of everything that’s launching currently…that is unless of course you’re one of those people who believes that SSFIV is ‘the worst fighting game EVAH’.

^Or people like me who say, “Why bother?”

That one crazy shmup sounds cool though. I hope someone on SRK gets that.

(I think Nintendo should have looked deeper into allowing more open development for the Ware service. Part of what makes iOS and Android so great is that anyone has a shot. Yes it does mean that the market gets crowded but you still have a somewhat fair shot. That’s what I find intriguing about the PSP Phone is that it runs Android plus the typical PSN goodies. Sony should consider making a wi-fi only version of it OR add Android to the PSP2)

Yeah I already have it on 360, not going to bother.

What is Nintendo’s marketing with this really? When I went to Gamestop it was already out but they were not trying to sell me on it, hell they had the boxes mixed up with the other DS’. It just seems like Nintendo is hoping people are gullible enough to pick one up along with Pokemon B/W.

Just weird, I see no game I want to drop $249.99 on right now, when the Resident Evil titles, Mario Kart, and Kid Icarus along with remakes (Star Fox!!!) I will gladly give them my money, but when the hell will that be.

Wait this thing is out in the US now?
