What is the PSP 2 going for?

It has been a while since I got a new handheld, and I am interested in that Shantae DSiWare game, so I was probably going to grab a 3DS around the launch window. Until I hear that the software update that enables DSiWare purchases won’t land until end of May.

I may wait, but most likely I won’t, Pilotwings Resort, SSF4: 3D or some of the DS games will hold me over until RE: Mercenaries drops or Kid Icarus.

Yeah, I’m not sure HOW PSP 2 is going to be affordable at any level. It offers so damn much it’s insane.

Just finished watching Iwata’s keynote. Nintendo looks like they’re actually really trying for online stuff now. They actually confirmed Netflix for the system and being able to actually record 3D video is intriguing to me. Of course that’s just probably going to lead to 3D porn being made probably.

I also fucking shat a brick when Iwata showed screenshots for the new Mario coming out for the system. Said that it’s being done by the Galaxy team and the Raccoon/Tanooki suit might be back.

And they’re going to reveal more at E3. You see…these are reasons I knew would come up that would make me not be able to hold out on buying the current system so I just went ahead and bought it now.

Main reason I want a 3DS is to play that. Have you heard the soundtrack? It’s dope.

I think the PSP phone is a smarter direction.

I’ll probably buy this, but not at launch. By the time I decide another DS may be coming out

That said, I love my DSLite. I’m finding a really hard time parting ways with it.

I just pawned mine because I’m poor and because I haven’t played a game on it since forever. Besides, I figure DS games will eventually be available digitally.

I haven’t even played a DS game in who knows how long. I’m not swaying towards buying a 3DS anytime soon.

The new doa looks sick, there was a video on the front page of srk of a tournament on it.

psp2 is gonna be at minimum 300. theres no way it wont be.

im at a huge crossroad… Trade my ds lite for the 50$ credit and use my ds games on the 3ds. or trade in all the games and keep the ds lite with flash card… IDK WHAT TO DO lol

I’m finding that most of my casual/non-gamer friends haven’t even heard of the 3DS. Is that unusual? I mean, I know it’s not out here yet, but I think most people heard about the 360/PS3, etc. well before system launch.

this is what i mean, nintendo hasnt even advertised this to the public, theres no commercials, and its kinda hard to find out if your not in the gaming world. I feel like if they were to throw some commercials up or something to get more people aware than theres no way it will stay in stock

So true. I told my friend today that the new DS is coming out and it’s coming to be 3D he looked at me like I was crazy. I then told told him, Look Ed no Glasses either… He looked at me like I was an alien from outer space… He became insta hype to buy it.

3DS Virtual Console getting Game Gear and TurboGraphx-16 games, coming late May | Joystiq

In addition to select, hand-picked Game Boy and Game Boy Color classics, the 3DS’s Virtual Console will also play host to titles from two slightly surprising sources: The Sega Game Gear and TurboGraphx-16 handhelds. No specific entries from the two devices were named during Reggie Fils-Aime’s presentation at Nintendo’s GDC keynote today – though we’ve got our fingers crossed for the speedy arrival of Sonic Chaos.

Fils-Aime also confirmed the late May arrival of the Virtual Console via a system update, which wiill also introduce a handful of the device’s other online features, including: DSiWare (and the ability to transfer DSiWare games from a DSi or DSi XL), the web browser and eShop. It’s likely to be the same update that will add Netflix and some 3D video features, too.

Pretty cool…

3DS will probably sell easily by word of mouth alone. It’ll probably be flying off the shelf whether they advertise it or not and it’s probably only going to get more hype from here…Especially if by some grace of god Mario Kart actually comes out before Christmas hits. If that releases around the holiday season then it’s a wrap…I’m going to have to use all my limbs to hold the soccer moms, old people and gamers off from all directions whenever a shipment comes in.

Might wanna change the title to “Great, now I need glasses”. People (japanese, duh) who play the 3ds say that it causes visual discomfort after as little as 10 minutes of play.

The anecdotal conclusion I’ve reached is that it is the result of having two screens. The top screen can display the 3D effect, while the touch screen is in 2D. Players typically end up using both while playing, but focusing on the top screen. So while playing, players eyes will focus on the 3D, and then have to re-focus on the 2D as they use the touch screen. This focusing, re-focusing and then focusing again could be the cause of issues I’m having.

The other issue is that the 3DS requires a sweetspot for the 3D effect to be viewed. So you must stay in the same position to view the 3D effect. Shifting position might mean that you have to tweak the 3D effect. Even pressing buttons on certain games, thereby causing the handheld to move slightly, can impact the 3D effect. This makes it difficult to relax ? like listening to music and constantly have to turn up and turn down the volume. You can’t focus on simply playing.

If there’s one thing about 3DS that I’m really sold on, it’s… the 3D, without glasses. So I’m genuinely interested in reading feedback on the effect. Maybe the current technology for 3D is too much of a strain on the eyes, especially for a small handheld screen.
