Nintendo 3DS - Best Handheld Today

There have been good handheld fighters before. They just have to be made specifically for handheld.

Portable training mode.

I forgot which bleach fighting game it was on ds but it was really fun and you only needed 1 cart to play multiplayer

I used UMvC3 Vita for that.

Wow…This statement…i don’t know what to say. It kinda sums up your entire post, although not quite in the way you had intended.

Nintendo’s own fault. Gamers have seen the writing on the wall and know to avoid nintendo systems if they expect to enjoy what 3rd party gaming has to offer. So yeah, it makes sense that the only ones that bother buying nintendo systems nowadays are the hardcore, “All i want to play is Mario and Zelda for the rest of my life and nothing else” type of gamers.

There is only ONE WAY to change this bad rep. Nintendo needs to actually make an effort to lure 3rd parties back in, and KEEP them. A mere trickling of exclusives once in a blue moon like RE4 or Bayonetta aren’t going to cut it. That’s not what moves consoles and keeps gamers coming back long-term.

They have to be getting EVERYTHING the other systems are, and no less. Or else gamers won’t take them seriously.

Bleach Blade of Fate and Bleach Dark Souls. Best fighting games for the DS imo. I was waiting for a third one and they just didn’t do it :(. Would have been nice to have at least one on 3DS.

Why the hell would you ever want to practice fighters on a handheld? Unless you’re a pad player that is.

Stick users, certainly not lol.

Exactly. Fuck portable fighters. They’re ass.

Not entirely true. I buy Nintendo systems because they make the best quality games, albeit they do stick to their established franchises. But they also take chances and try to change the way we interact with videogames. There’s a reason why the Wii was so wildly successful with the introduction to motion controls. And I actually do like the Gamepad for the games it’s used on (I also actually think it’s a comfortable controller, but I’m probably in the minority there).

For the last few generations I’ve had a Nintendo system plus a PlayStation for any third party games, because I like both and want to play both. Sure, it’d be nice if Nintendo offered more heavy hitter 3rd party titles. But I don’t think they really need to. I get what you’re saying, but you can’t generalize that everyone who likes and buys Nintendo consoles don’t also like 3rd party games, which is how I read the part of your post I quoted above. Hell, just about everyone who posts in the Nintendo threads here also participate in either the PlayStation or Xbox threads, too.

laughs at this post as he continues to play Dragonball Z: Butoden

I’d rather play the arcade and snes ones.

That’s fine. I was just laughing at the concept of thinking handheld fighters are automatically garbage.

When I was playing UMvC3 a lot back in the day, I can’t tell you how great it was to be able to keep my muscle memory fresh with the Vita version of the game. I play on pad anyway so it really isn’t that much of a difference. I can play Smash Bros on a 3DS just as well as I can on WiiU too.

Stick users might have a harder time, sure, but that should be obvious.

DSTWO Plus came out…kinda sexy

Even as a stick player I’d find value in it. The ability to think of something and then immediately boot up the game to try it out even if I’m not home is pretty big, especially for someone like me whose memory sucks and would immediately forget the concept I thought of before I made it home.

Not everyone has the disposable income, nor the desire to free up space to go buying multiple systems each gen. Spending on a single console that can only receives games from (1) developer is a bad investment.

Been retired from gaming for a bit now but MAYBE considering jumping back in for select titles recently that have my attention, even though i don’t have much to spend. All the games i want to play are 3rd parties. Whats the likelihood I’d choose a nintendo console? Yeah…no.

If nintendo actually got their sh*t together and were receiving the same 3rd party titles the others are? I’d be much more inclined to choose them perhaps, due to their exclusives like bayonetta, and yes, 1st party stuff like Mario games. I actually wouldn’t mind checking out their recent stuff.

However, this is not the case. So they are automatically not an option with my limited money.

If you strictly arcade and stick (like i do) then playing on a d-pad may as well be your first time playing. At least that feels that way to me. The muscle memory from stick to pad is totally different.

We’re talking about REAL fighting games, with an emphasis on skill. Not fighters that are for casual enjoyment.

You wouldn’t buy/learn stick for a DBZ game lol.

If you got something to say than say it. Giving a non-answer just makes you look like a dumbass. Every major third party publisher has made a decent amount of games for the Wii. EA, Ubisoft, Capcom, 2K, Sega, Activision, and Square Enix to name a few have made lots of games for the Wii.

Not really, because he said “there are no good fighters on handheld”. Let’s not even touch on the whole concept of what qualifies as “casual fighters that take no skill”.

Blazblue, Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, MvC, Smash Bros…these are all games available on portable gaming systems. It’s just as stupid to call these fighters “garbage” just because I’m using a control method that differs from your preference.
