There’s always Skulls of the Shogun. Advance Wars was a direct inspiration, but it has its own little twists, such as having full range of movement instead of being restricted to a grid, being able to knock back enemy units, powering up your units by eating the skulls of your defeated enemies, etc.
It also doesn’t have, as Po would put it, “shitty-ass pixel graphics.”
Was thinking of this just yesterday. I used to play alot of Dual Strike vs with my friend. Which reminds me I need to get through that series, only one I owned was Dual Strike but i was garbage at tactics games back then I got stuck lmao.
Yeah though they should continue it, I mean FE is jumping uhh even though to some cosmetic changes, but I’m sure a new Advance Wars would do fine without them having to take it the extra anime route
I’ve yet to buy Majora’s Mask or MH4U both of which I’m sure will be great, but looking at the upcoming games sadly looks like 3DS is almost dead for me nothing in the future except Rodea The Sky Soldier and maybe Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice appeal to me.
Any good games I may not be aware of releasing this or next year?
if you like beat em ups and can withstand some fan service then you may want to look into senran kagara. you also have dbz extreme butoden. I’d state more but I know you don’t like RPGs like Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Bravely Second, or Yokai Watch.
I’m planning on getting LoZ: Triforce Heroes next month.
Watched some game play of Senran Kagura and the generic art style, “fan service” AKA PG13 anime porn shit, and lackluster combat just isn’t my cup of tea. DBZ Extreme Butoden looks pretty fun and I like the 2D art, but I have no interest in any portable fighter I see no point in playing a competitive game handicapped by portable controls. I loved Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story because the Bowser and Mario and Luigi switching mechanics made exploring levels fun and I like the timing based combat it’s not simple the “watch my character do an attack” type of game play I usually find boring and shallow in turn based RPGs so I might give Paper Jam a chance it looks kind of cool I never heard of it before how did this slip under my radar? I’ll keep an eye on it.
Triforce Heroes looks like a cash grab from Nintendo reusing ALBW assets and throwing in co-op/team AI it doesn’t look like a fun experience to me. I appreciate you trying to help…but it looks like 3DS is done producing quality action and platform games I was hoping something like:
Shinobi
Cave Story 3D
Super Mario 3D Land
Kid Icarus: Uprising (incredible game really surprised me I could see why @LordWilliam1234 says this is one of his favorite games of all time)
Donkey Kong Country: Returns 3D
Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Something along those lines, I guess hoping for more games like those is too much?
EDIT: Monster Tale Ultimate sounds up my alley, can someone explain what the difference is between MH4U and MHX? As someone new to the series I was planning on getting 4, but now I guess I should wait for X. And are there any differences between Hyrule Warriors 3DS and Wii U? I own both systems, but just want to know which one is better. I really hope Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice is fire…I’m getting my hopes up a bit that SEGA learned their lesson and will deliver a classic well designed 2D side scroller…but I won’t be surprised if I’m wrong.
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D? How did I NOT know this game exists!? Once again, this thread has proven to be the best non-fighting game gaming thread in SRK>
Grezzo is apparently helping with Triforce Heroes so this will be the first Zelda game that they do that isn’t a remake.
Paper Jam went under people’s radar because they were so busy seeing red over Federation Force. And then there’s the random person here and there who is just generally unhype about about the prospect of the 2 mario rpg worlds colliding because they wanted a standalone legit Paper Mario game (my coworker).
I’d ask why can’t you just enjoy a fighting game without thinking with a competitive mindset 100% of the time but eh…
From what I understand Senran 2 gives you the option to turn the shred clothes thing off…but you found the combat to be lackluster so there’s that.
Monster Hunter X looks like it’s MH4 but with a more extreme vibe going for it in terms of moves that the hunters have. I don’t know if the Monsters will receive the same treatment or not yet. MHX hasn’t been announced for the states quite yet though. MH4 dropped 10 bucks new at least in GS recently and I know how much you’re all about trying not to buy games at their starting MSRP so this might be an opportunity to do that.
Nintendo is probably not done making stuff but they’re the only company right now out of the 3 actively splitting their attention between their handheld sector and their home console sector plus a lack of 3rd parties outside of mostly japanese devs and indies on the handheld front. You’re gonna have be patient or you can get a Vita aaaaaand definitely not get what you want.
I think I’ll wait for Monster Hunter X as it looks like it’ll be MH 4.5 and as far as vita goes @Sonichuman I got one in May and am in love with it tons of great games for it that are exactly what I’m craving.
Hmmm Gunvolt totally forgot about that one thanks I’ll cop it sometime soon.
