You might wish to check then out after getting a few solid titles under your belt but for many reasons I do not advise anyone to start with those.
if i recall correctly the first srpg i played was disgaea.
what’s wrong with disgaea?

I’ve been playing that SMT: Strange Journey. Great game!

Etrian Odyssey IV demo has me hyped for it. Yuzo Koshiro did a great job with the music.

Looking at some of his work it looks like he was involved with falcom. Doesn’t surprise me one bit.

I’ve always ignored Etrian Odyssey because I thought the map drawing would be annoying but I liked it. Getting it for sure now and the music is good.

Hey hey hey…you can’t do that. Playing a demo is supposed to make you not buy the game.

Yeah, the demo is pretty nice, I won’t get Etrian Odyssey at launch due to my budget (and Soul Hackers in about a month or so) but I am definitely trying to get that game before the year ends.

Well, I beat the Fire Emblem demo, and I have a best buy coupon for $15. I am going to stop being a pussy and tomorrow buy the game and beat my first strategy rpg!

Expect to be restarting a whole lot of maps because of permadeath… and recruitment on maps…

The FE series is semi-annoying with that… my favorite strategy rpg is Advanced Wars… I love disposable units…

I wonder is there gonna be a 3DS Advance Wars… if so then I might as well hook Nintendo up with some money ASAP…

I have been playing fire emblem awakening for that past three days and I am loving this game. This is my first FE game but I found the demo kind of easy so I am playing through on hard and I am kind of happy I didn’t turn on permadeath.

If you are playing the game without permadeath, then you are not playing it on hard.

I’m playing with permadeath on and I’m pretty sure I’ve restarted (L+R+START) about 100 times, most of which were done with the Wyvern Valley and the two mercenary group Paralogues. My word were those some hard maps, although the mercenary group one was self inflicted.

I’m still hoping to get a physical copy of FE this week…I’m hoping more shipment is coming in.

I’m getting mine tommorow according to amazon.

Originally they said they wouldn’t get a copy to me until the beginning of march. I’m glad they pulled through a bit. Did they not make as many copies to fit the demand?

i got my physical copy a day after release i called everywhere and target had only 3 copies so i told them to hold it and now it is mine.

anyway after playing a week the game is super fun i love combining units and support system.
i just regret not playing on hard. A lot of my units just feel too overpowered like anna, i gave her a few goddess statues and speedwings now there is NOTHING that can hit her. personally i think she is top 5 in the entire game.

a few complaints about the game for me is that there aren’t really many special condition maps like the sandstorm one. one of the things i really liked about shadow dragon was the fact once you beat a level or an enemy there was no turning back there was a set number of of enemies with exp (levels with respawning enemies where really difficult to grind in), so you had to decide how to balance your team. unlike in this game where you can grind all the fuck you want. more games nowadays need more ultimatums.
other than that this game is awesome.

Having not played the game yet but read about it, this is what will keep this from being the best fire emblem to me. Other fire emblems you had to think about and commit to a decision but it sounds like you dont have to do shit like that in this game. The reason I believe that people keep saying this is the best fire emblem is because they are just playing with a bunch of overpowered units to plow through the game. I originally thought that the no permadeath was going to ruin how the game played but after reading about being able to grind till infinity from multiple sources, I now believe that is what is actually going to ruin how the game is played. That combined with no permadeath just allows for lolover9000quadruple damage all the time.

It does have a few challenging maps but so far in the main mode not many once you start getting past the early chapters. Most of the ones that have interesting conditions are side quest missions, trying to go against some of higher level spotpass characters from previous games is also a bit of a grind because some of them or the minions on the map might be at higher levels/classes or using cheap weapons. I’ve only played up until chapter 20 (I’ve been trying to grind some of newer characters and their supports) but environmentally the desert levels aren’t that difficult other then hurting movement although the one volcano mission was interesting even if the lava wasn’t that big of a factor.

Still enjoying the hell out of the game, the customization via the pair up/support bonuses and class changing has been great and the amount of side quests and ways that you can grind have been a lot of fun.

I have a feeling I’d just trade in or return Fire Emblem like I have with every other 3DS game I’ve purchased.

…actually. I haven’t seen my 3DS in about a month…oh well.

Nintendo Direct to focus on 3DS and Wii U tomorrow.

Direct is 3pm CET, 9AM EST, 6AM PT

I wasn’t expecting direct to focus on Wii U just yet since they dropped bombs last month.

I totally stole that from NeoGaf but it’s too good not to share.

Don’t know how much you know, but there IS permadeath in the game if you want it. As for thinking and committing to decisions, that’s definitely there too. Plenty of people are doing iron man runs. Some opt for no grinding Spotpass/DLC chapters allowed, but honestly, on Lunatic mode, it’s pretty much mandatory. On Lunatic+ all your characters have to have maxed out stats just to stand a chance, from there it’s having good strategy, making the most out of supports, and breeding the children into super-soldiers. If you’re a long time fan of the series, don’t pass this one up because you think it’ll be too easy. I’m 100% certain you won’t find that to be the case on the right difficulty.

She’s crazy strong when you get her and has decent growth, but not nearly top 5 or even top 15. The children are easily the best. As for Normal vs. Hard, you’re too right about normal being easy, but I guess that’s why the description for it was “for new players”. I restarted on Hard and have been comparing the differences: there are more enemies, they’re better equipped, they have better stats, the unit types are better picked (More archers on levels that benefit from Flyers, more Flying units on smaller maps so your formations have to be tighter), and most importantly, the AI is smarter. I noticed that on Normal the AI would consistently suicide against units that can retaliate, when they could have easily targeted units that can’t (Archers attacking mages instead of my melee units, etc.). And they love to gang up on units too.

Just finished watching the Nintendo Direct. Europe is lucky they’re getting an XL bundle with Fire Emblem.

The ending to the Monster Hunter 3 segment was hilarious. :)) Someone will gif that, I’m sure!

Oh, seeing Etrian Odyssey in the direct reminded me: did you all play the demo? Really good music.
