NEW Up to Date Rules: Updated April 18th 2011

Thanks for the reply but i can’t seem to create a new topic anyway, says i need 50 post.

is there any way I can start a “Want to Buy” thread?

thanks

Not until you have 50 posts. Nice try though.

This is exactly why I recommend 500 posts

i think the 6 month wait is a fair security measure for selling. for example OCN makes you have 35 reps before you can start even posting wtb/wts on their site. takes roughly 6 months or so to get that much rep.

There are two clear arguments to this issue, I think both of them have valid points and counterpoints. Below, I have listed the two common feelings and reasons given that one is better than the other

On one side:

500 - 2000 posts would be a better measure. That is 500 - 2000 posts with no infractions or spam posts. Basically, A 2006 user who made an account and one or two posts and forgot about it till SF4 came out has more pull than a 2009 user with over 1000 quality posts. I do feel that 3 months + 500 quality posts would be a safer requirement. With the current setup, someone can join now, wait 6 months, throw 50 useless posts up, and then proceed to steal some cash. That being said, if someone does screw up and spams the forum, then punish them with the full time limit.

On the opposite:

The 6 month rule will usually weed out anyone who would cause harm to the website. The users who stick with the site and keep posting have proven that they are committed and are rewarded as such. If a post requirement is imposed, it will lead to more spam and people trying to flood the forum so that they can sell their stuff. Even if you tell them that they have to make quality posts, it will bring the overall quality of the posts down. And against your argument that someone could just wait it out, how many people seriously do that? No one’s dumb enough to buy from someone who’s only made 50 posts in 3 years.

If I can’t Post a WTB or WTS thread then can I reply to a WTB post with my item(s) in response…?

It’s very simple, read the rules.

can you post to sell something for local pickup? since you can’t really rip someone off in person? could you post it in the nw forums?

You know, I’m starting to completely understand why we have to wait for 6 months… The more I read the more it becomes apparent I wouldn’t want some of these people selling me stuff.

So, just curious, why is all the SFIV stuff segregated into one thread?

^
i agree this should be changed. it was good in the beginning to keep spam control but sf4 hype has died down now by alot.

Yeah, people are dumb enough. Maybe YOU aren’t, but I guarantee that someone is. As P.T. Barnum so eloquently put it, “there’s a sucker born every minute”.

Well I don’t plan on selling anything since the only thing I can really sell is a buttload of comics. :stuck_out_tongue: Just wondering if someone buys a lot of stuff and gets good reviews on their review thread would exceptions be made or must he still wait six months? Like I said I don’t really plan on doing it since I don’t like dealing with shipping and handling and checking price for that for places around the world.

was that directed at me? i think it was a legitimate question.

It was more like you were trying to find a loophole, Nizmo.

fix the loophole! but i’m right, right? i’m not likely to be a dishonest person if i want to do a local trade in a public place.

use craigslist then, there is no advertising, selling or otherwise ANYWHERE on the forum for members that dont me the criteria.

guess i’ll just wait. my craigslist has no posts regarding buying or selling arcade stuff.

Just to clarify for 6 months/50 Posts later These are my options
Please don’t respond back with the foolishness just yes or no
Can Not
-Sell Items in a new Thread/Post
-Refer members to a Ebay link of your items
-Not sell items thru PM no way to effectively track this but someone can report you
-Not allowed to trade with other members in threads/Posts

Can
-Buy items in Threads/Posts
-Can Post “WTB” thread in the Trading Outlet

are you allowed to bump your selling thread if you’ve added some items to the original post (and updated title) instead of making a new thread for the new items? thx
