NEW Up to Date Rules: Updated April 18th 2011

To “I’m not thread-crapping” posters:

  1. If you’re not saying something encouraging about the seller or item, it would be better left unsaid.

  2. If a rule is being broken, PM the seller politely or better yet- let the mods do their job. No need for “mini-mods” threatening infractions. If they needed any more mods, I’m sure they would hire more.

It seems some 09 are trying to sell their stuff through PM’s rather than make a thread.

Don’t buy from these people. Just send their name to Fir/MMDS/myself and we’ll take care of it.

I know there’s no way for us to prevent that right now but do you really want to buy from a new guy who has 5 posts?

I don’t like to partake in forum discussions much but when I do it’s usually to buy/sell/trade. This goes for other forums (tfw2005, anandtech, macrossworld)… I guess this will be an exception. No selling, no buying for me. Thanks - I’ll just lurk.

here’s an idea, how about SRK allows members to sell/trade who have eBay accounts with at least 20+ positive feedback?
boo ya, problem solved. let’s help fix this financial crisis by exchanging money for goods.

Ebay is enforced buying/selling. Anything goes wrong, ebay/paypal steps in.

Forum sales on the other hand, are not enforced by any third party.

Also, ebay doesn’t even let you leave negative feedback to buyers. It’s a broken feedback system.

Check the buyer/seller feedback forum. That’s what it’s there for- feedback on users.

The rule is placed to protect SRK members from being scammed. In the end, it’s up the individual member to take the necessary precautions when dealing with any member.

Many other forums with a “marketplace” have requirements as well. It’s not like what’s being done is unheard of.

there should be a rule for thread poisoning, I hate when a guy is selling something and some other smart pants comes and say: “oh, i can get this same item for $10 bucks less shipped on Ebay”. or some other website, that a sale killer righ there.

Here’s a new rule: Next one to continue posting bullshit drama/flaming in here gets an infraction.

I’m a little confused. I will want to be selling a custom stick in the next month or two, but do I have to be a paid “premium” member to post a sale? Or because I am a “registered user” I cannot sell without paying for a subscription.

Also if I do purchase a Premium Membership today, then I’ll have to wait 6 months as a paid member to sell something?

You can sell without a premium membership. You registered before 09 so you are free to post the sale when the time comes.

post whatever you want

i was thinking the same thing.wiz should make a new rule saying 09 members can only sale here by posting their ebay link

If you have good Ebay feedback, just keep using Ebay. In the meantime the rule stays.

Uhmm question…about not being able to sell is it just for the trading outlet??Cuz an 09 member pms me about him selling stuff…

report it to a admin.

If anyone is getting PM’s from 09 members trying to peddle their shit, shoot me his name.

At the same time obviously some of these are going to slip up through the cracks, sadly, so if you decide to do business and get screwed in any way, SRK is not responsable, I don’t want to see crying on here.

Come on crying is funny, they come in here cry & we can just laugh at them saying told you so!

Valaris you seem kinda angry from your post recently, everything ok buddy?

Not angry, just annoyed. Some people are trying to circumvent the rules by trying through PM or selling in other sections and it’s tedious to track all this shit down.

I’m having a hard time trying to figure out why you would keep 09 members from selling products on this forum. With places like LL and Aki closing their doors to orders and now you closing your doors to people who might actually have parts you’re doing your users a disservice.

The only justification that you can give for this action is that you are trying to control spammers…which is just plain circle talk. If someone has joined this forum with the intention of spamming do you really think they give a damn about your silly rules? All you are doing is keeping the honest people who actually have something to sell from doing so.

The only way to make this work for EVERYONE including SRK is make it so that the sellers must have a premium member account. This provides SRK with the funds to track those who are breaking the rules and shows a bit of a commitment on the sellers part. Hell, maybe even create a higher lever “sellers premium member” account that cost more to join. I’m sure those like LL and Aki would gladly pay for such a membership. Otherwise, asking people to rat out other users only seeds discontent amoung the ranks and will only lead to a grey market that SRK will have no control over.

What’s worse is that in this grey market that isn’t visible by all the forum goers, the customer is MORE likely to get screwed over and spammed because there’s no public record of deals being made etc.

Take a second to think about what you’re creating here before you go making childish rules like this. You may be trying to protect LL and Aki from incoming competitors but you’re doing this community wrong by doing so. It’s almost shameful.

Of course if I’m way off base here, please correct me. I’ll stand corrected without shame. I’m just worried about those users here that might get screwed via PM by sellers that have nothing but bad intentions. At least if a deal is struck in a public forum we have record of it to help protect these folks.
