I actually wasn’t referring to Dhalsim in MvC2, but SSF4. Looks like he was awesome in MvC2 as well. It is a shame Ko doesn’t have that level of speed or anything close to it. :x
According to one of the new entries in Eventhubs, the characters have been rebalanced again.
I wonder know if they finally change anything substantial in Hsien-Ko other than giving her more items.
There’s always hope…
*“Every character, including Shuma Gorath and Jill, were rebalanced carefully.” *
I sincerely hope so.
They probably just toned down Mystic Ray assist for being too good.
Yeah well I’m going to give gool ol’ Seth an ear full if they haven’t given Hsien-Ko a proper rebalancing. :razzy:
Did anyone go to the NYC thing and try her out? I can’t really find anything on her. To be expected, I guess.
We probably won’t learn her changes until we have the game our selves at this rate.
Well, we might see someone at one of these other events play her. There can’t be THAT few people that use her.
Wait, Hsien-Ko is in UMvC3???
Apparently not, because there’s no Hsien-Ko footage according to Raimann, the guy who uploaded the videos. Well, time to start looking forward to next month.
The only videos that I’ve seen Hsien-Ko in UMVC3 were in one from last month’s event (which even I posted in one of the threads here if I’m not mistaken) and a recent one which featured Dr. Strange and Nemesis’ moveset.
From these two, the first one was the only that I could see any significant changes. She does seem a bit faster, but not good enough. At least, it was refreshing to see the played who picked her beating the rival team in a quite impressive way.
The second one is just to see her being owned by Nemesis rather quickly.
That part in the Strange trailer where she swings into his fireball bounced off the glyphs only reinforced how much I want Pendulum canceling. Sure, you’d have to be an idiot (or just really tired) to deliberately jump and swing into that, but what if you’ve started and they decide to shoot something at you? Just take it straight-on? Why not swing–>ohshi there’s something headed this way–>cancel with S–>block int the nick of time and work from there.
Don’t mind me, I’m just yammerin’.
You posted that before it happened, it happened tonight.
I said I was thinking about going to it, and I did, partly since I felt like no one would play Hsien-ko if I didn’t.
That said I feel like I failed at that goal, somewhat. I didn’t get to try some things that I wanted to, and I barely have anything specific to share. But even so, since I mentioned the concept before, I felt I should at least do the followup now.
There were absurd waits to play, I really wanted to try SFxT, and I happened to pick the UMvC3 station that was running 2 out of 3 sets so that line moved slower (didn’t realize at first).
Also, I haven’t played MvC3 in probably months now since I entered AE mode and then my console died so I currently only have PC AE. That combined with some HUD confusion and the general chaos of MvC compared to SF made me enter a kind of pressure zone where I barely even remember what I did in those games. I just clawed through on the strength of basic Hsien-ko/Doom muscle memory.
I saw someone running a camera at that station once while I was waiting in line, so I’m not sure whether my matches were recorded. If I could see it again I might be able to give a better explanation about what happened and how I felt about the games.
The last game before I left I asked the other guy and he wouldn’t let me just test some things. I did end up winning the set with mostly Hsien-ko on point (because my Strange was awful due to no time to learn inputs), but I immediately forgot to test much of anything in that set since I was focused on survival, can’t test with a dead character, getting me stuck in vanilla Hsien-ko play. Even then I was pretty rusty. Some notes from the little I remember:
-
Tried mashing s during pendulum, don’t think it worked. Didn’t try any other cancel methods. I bet you can x-factor it though for a gimmick?
-
Forgot to mash Tenraiha.
-
Super armor startup still got stuffed (by random enemy Dr. Strange projectile)
-
Didn’t see any bombs. I threw a few items, but not many.
-
Did antiair f.mp jump cancel into some normal by accident. Didn’t remember to try jump cancel in combos, although usually they were so damaged by the time I got to combo them that they just died in a couple hits anyway. Probably because I was playing against Strider.
-
Didn’t drop any combos due to range, but that’s not really indicative of much with such a small sample of attempts. Just noting.
I would probably be able to see more if I found a video of the games. To enter vague personal opinion territory, I left with an unfocused optimistic feeling about her, although that could quite well have been influenced by the high-energy environment. I can’t even begin to say whether she was faster or not, my impressions aren’t that clear-cut and I didn’t notice some obvious x-factor-like speed boost. But I didn’t particularly notice the feeling that I was moving in molasses that I sometimes had, either.
Probably the clearest impression was that I felt pretty confident playing against Strider. The projectiles aren’t too threatening to you, and if you catch him trying to guess teleport a gong, pendulum can actually hurt him because he has such low health. And then super armor (on yourself or as an assist) makes his risk/reward pretty bad, even if he gets ouroboros out. Snapping him in seems like a good idea.
Well, it’s good to know regardless. Glad you went, and thanks for trying her out, because you’re probably right in that no one would’ve played her.
Seems like nothing’s really changed since last build. Well, there’s still time.
And if she’s fine against Strider… well. Hell. Not making a statement about tiering or anything, but if she can fare somewhat well against him, that’s a plus. 'Course, this probably means that he’s a tough character to learn, but hey, it’s something.
I wonder if gong reflects/nullifies Ouroboros projectiles?
Do his animal buddies count as projectiles? It’d seem weird for them to start running/flying the other way, but Gong might stop them.
Animals are projectiles, they didn’t bother me but I don’t actually remember what happened when they hit a gong. I think it was just like a beam where they keep going but don’t hurt you.
Stopping ouroboros is unlikely.
I’d be more than happy to update the OP if we could get some solid info dammit.
Are logs made of solid wood solid enough info?
Do we have confirmation the wood isn’t hollow yet? c_c
