I don’t think airdashing’s going to get you the crossup. Too slow. Yeah, try plinkaporting (well, that’s what I call it anyway) to the other side and report back. Because I’ve been wondering what I could do with Bolts assist besides lockdown. Maybe simple crossups with call assist, teleport, combo and entry mixups, seeing as Strange is tall.
I think Eye of Agamotto might be a better assist for cross-ups. It has a lot of active frames and comes out fairly slow, so you can wavedash once and then tele-dash, and it’ll cross up really quickly. I also think it’s easier to get combos off of it than the daggers. Maybe I’m just biased because it’s similar to Dark Hole, haha.
Either way, I don’t think jump-canceling Edoga is the way to go for cross-ups, her air dash is much more slow and vulnerable than her ground wave/plink-dash, and it only goes over/under people, not through them. (btw if anyone has any tips for learning to plink-dash that would be nice, I’m terrible at it)

Hmm, Agamotto might work, but it doesn’t help her approach, which is what I’m also looking for. Nem/Ko/Strange will probably end up being my B Team. It sounds really fun but fragile, as in it probably requires too many variables to be effective and is less solid than my other Spencer/Ko/Task team. Who knows, though. All my weak theoryfighting. Besides, Nemesis really likes Vajra assist. Maybe I’ll pick up Strider to go along with them?
So apparently there were not one, but two Lei Leis on the Xanadu stream that I missed. The archives haven’t been updated yet, but here’s a link:
I was playing around with Strange’s Bolts of Balthakk assist last night. It was fun just sitting at the other end of the screen and firing lasers/chucking projectiles and banging dat gong, and calling in Morrigan for meter. Against teleporters, I would activate gold armor from time to time if I thought they were coming in for a teleport and punish. Good times.
Yeah the bolts of Balthakk is the assist to go for Hsien-ko, the full screen pressure is insane.
@Noble Cactus, the team is not fragile if HK plays on point, the correct order is Hsien-ko, Strange, Nemesis. She can play a very decent zone game by using strange bolts assist, anki hous and spamming henkyo ki, from time to time using Nemmy armored assist if the opponent gets too close. The blocking has to be VERY good against strategies heavy on rushdown of course, this is basic for anyone running HK on point -.- . BUT the main strategy is of course, go hyper armor Rimoukon > Henkyo ki H > hard tag to Nemesis.
So the team main order is, Nemesis (Battery) - Strange (meter user) - Hsien-ko (assist and anchor). I know everything about my old team of Thor (battery) - Dormammu (meter user) - HK (assist) but i’m still learning about this team DHC synergy and combos, so when i get more tactics and strategies i will share them. One that specially caught my attention (when playing Strange) is calling Nemesis armored assist and instantly using Dr. Strange Illusion (B+H). If the opponent hits Strange he will be facing Nemmy armored assist instead! haha and Strange crossup at the same time. Still need muchh more training though.
Oh man, that just sounds good n’ trolly.
Max’s “opinion” on her alt costume made me laugh. For everyone else, he stated how much he liked the costume. For her, he just expressed his confusion about what exactly her sister did and went straight to the next costume.
@Serpentaurus: That’s interesting, then. Let me know how that goes, because I really want to try it out when I get to play. Nem’s Rocket hyper has good DHC’s with Vishanti and Tenrai Ha, I’d imagine.
What I meant by fragile is that the team doesn’t really have a solid character; each of them specializes in their own thing and it seems like each one really needs the others to support him/her. Plus, Strange anchor can be a little iffy if you don’t have Vishantis/XF ready.
wait so are you playing the ko on point?
does anyone do that?
i mean have the whole team based around her, i’m sure we all use her when we have and when we’re feeling good
but on everyone of my teams shes my second
It’s mostly preference. At some point/team I’ve had her in every slot. I’ve decided my favorite spot to play her in is second, personally. Though, I will still play her in another spot if I feel it benefits the team.
I like Nemesis a lot as a character, and was testing something for a friend last night. I found that unless you dhc’d into Tenrai-Ha immediately as nemesis made contact after the jump (on his rocket hyper) they would roll out of Tenrai-Ha. I can do some testing a bit later if you would like me to, but that’s what I noticed last night.
Edit: Although, I found that going into gold armor after Nemesis’ Rocket hyper, sets you up for some command grab opportunities on their wakeup. I didn’t check but calling gold armor and dashing under them as they wake up/roll tech could also net you a free combo.
^I was just going to post about those Nemesis/Hsien DHC opportunities. My favorite is to land a combo into a hard knockdown with Hsien, do Rimoukon DHC into the rocket hyper. Basically the same thing as the Rimoukon/Gamma Tsunami thing I’ve been doing since Vanilla. And if you have 3 meters, you can do Rocket, DHC right after the stomp into Rimoukon, then any hyper that would hit afterward. I think Sphere Flame and Ryu’s upward Shinku Hadoken are best for that.
And man, Hsien-Ko has such a good command grab game when gold… except for the fact that she can’t get anything good after landing one Can we get a ground bounce, Capcom!? At least her regular throw can be followed up.
I prefer her on second for the DHC into Gold Armor. Seems like a lot of others do, to.
Yeah, testing would be cool.
Hmm, that’s disappointing about Rockets into TRH. I was looking forward to that DHC for good damage. I do like what you described with wakeup games, though. I’m thinking Gold Pendulum is a good assist for Nemesis, though not to the extent of Vajra (which serves a different purpose anyway). And seeing as her main game is tagging out after powering up anyway…
Speaking of who, Strider wouldn’t work well on a Nem/Ko team now that I think about it. Ninja needs meter. If all else fails, there’s always Doom, I guess.
Or in the case of Cactus’ team, Vishanti could be nice as well if you need the pure damage rather than going for a reset situation.
Having all that meter available for Tenrai-Ha loops for Hsien is just so nice to have available. Surprisingly, Nemesis builds a decent amount of meter as well.
I play Hsien-Ko on point. I play a passive-aggressive zoning game while building meter with Morrigan’s assist. If I score 4-5 bars I pop Rimoukon and DHC to Felicia Kitty Helper. After that it’s outrageous pressure with Felicia, backed by gold pendulum and building meter with Morrigan. It’s pretty insane. Leaves me with great pressure options, the invincible assist and enough meter for me to do whatever I want with.
yeah i always run my HK on point (at least in vanilla), except when i play Wolverines, the old Berserker slash was too much for her to handle, so i start with Dormammu, Hsien-ko, Thor when she has virtually 0 chances to go into hyper armor > hard tag, or even to survive. Also it looks way more cool, as she is in the middle right between Thor (who is praying) and Dorm (who gets up of his demonic chair). I was more or less successful in vanilla with this strategy (got the “cosmic lord” title thingy in ranked matches with 75% W/L rate), but then again, the blocking to run a HK on point has to be VERY good and she have to outsmart the opponent, so it is probably not the best idea.
I’m honestly surprised that you’ve gone this long without being turned into dust. I used to play her on point and it got so bad that I decided to put Ammy in front. It made a world of difference. Her gold armor takes so long in terms of recovery/startup that it can get stuffed easily by a decent character. Having a mobile character with some sort of fullscreen punish works better for me since I can build meter anyway and I get a full health gold pendulum after performing a full combo and DHC.
Example:
Ammy/Hsien-Bro/Morrigan
LOL zip around with Ammy and build meter. Rush them down if I have to, it don’t matter because Ammy is good. Catch them and combo into Okami Shuffle. Safely DHC into gold armor while the lightning is falling and raw tag back into Ammy for gold pendlum shenanigans that usually start in the corner for the lulz.
okay that’s more then i’ve seen but if i’m reading correctly you’re working for felicia being the point character essentially right?
but i mean i play a viper team and its a 1point 2 assist team and the only time i’m not playing for viper is when i get snapped out, even when i hard tag/dhc her out to gain red life and i’m playing with the other characters it’s still for viper in her health
i mean i don’t play a point hsienKo either so it’s not like i’m trying to look down on anyone or anything i’m just curious
like does anyone for example run the modok barrier and morgs d.harmonizer and just chuck a bunch of items at people and spend all their bar on the ko combos or run the the cold star lockdown and just apply a bunch of pressure until you can open them up and have another assist that can possibly extend her combos
I switch it up. I will sometimes never tag Ko out and will just play her on point until I feel it’s absolutely necessary to pull her out. I use Felicia’s Rolling Buckler to set up cheap unblockable high/lows and will stock meter with Morrigan. Once I get a knockdown, that is usually a dead character, chaining Hyper Viper Ha. Once the next char comes in I’ll go for a mixup or start up a defensive game until I stock up more meter, then go for the knockdown, etc.
Basically I can play Ko on point backed by Felicia and Morrigan, or Felicia on point backed by Ko and Morrigan, or Morrigan backed by Felicia and Ko. Though usually Morrigan is my achor and will “do all the work,” as the quote says.
When MVC3 first came out, I was using Hsien-ko on point but after awhile and many losses later I came to terms with her just being an assist character. In the long run it helped because I at least learned to use her properly before whoring out her assist. I now run her second so I’m able to dhc into her armor then right into Dormammu.
But if I’m playing someone of lower skill then me I have no problem with tagging her in and letting her get some point time. I think I may even try building another team with Hsien-ko as the point character since she’s more solid in umvc3. Maybe Sentinel and Doom, drones and missiles are probably really good for Hsien-ko.
The DHC i have been using is:
From Nemesis to Strange: Biohazard Assault DHC into Vishanti (the most useful)
From Nemesis to Strange: BA DHC into Astral Magic
Nemesis to Hsien-ko: BA DHC into tenrai ha (the loop is harder to do)
Hsien-ko to Strange: tenrai ha into Vishanti, and this is specially good since Strange can do again the Vishanti and get back to Hsien-ko tenrai ha if 4 bars are on stock just like Zero can do it with his Rekkoha.
Yeah anchoring with either of them will be hard. Still i think Strange is the best anchor of the three, but he is kind of hard to control. So not the instant XFlv3 into magic series team K.O. like Wesker, Strange has to play smart to win.
And to the people arguing about Hsien-ko being a better option as the second character in ultimate, remember the bar builds 90% of what it could in vanilla, so getting two bars will be slightly more difficult. Wolvie Berserker slash no longer has invincibility and Magneto speed on dashes was reduced so the only tools that made Hsien-ko virtually impossible to play on point are not in the game anymore, and the jump cancels and reduced time on recovery for some normals also make her more solid in blocking. I will stick to my Hsien-Ko on point in Ultimate.
…****
Noooow I understand that ending… lol, I thought it was for real too ;_;
Also, anyone seen GR’s winquote against Hsien? Something like, “Your mother deserves to be in Hell. You will be joining soon after”. It’s so cruel, what did she even do?! No way an anti-hero is saying that to a gal this cute, he’s just a plain villain.
