New trick up our sleeves: The Hsien Ko changelog

ugh! I remember seeing that, I had no idea what happened because of the quality and I was thinking we’d probably never see a similar situation again so chance missed for bomb info :frowning:

One thing that I want to try now with Hsien-Ko’s faster Gongs is an approach tactic that is mostly theoryfight. Basically, you send out a :l: or :m: Gong, teledash, then send out another one (to protect you from teleporters) so that you look like this:

O…X…O

O = Gong shockwave
X = Hsien-Ko

The Gongs end up coming out too slowly and you move too slowly to really be everyone at approaching Phoenixes and stuff, making it overall too cumbersome to use in a match, but maybe it could be a little more effective with her new tweaks, if not still gimmicky. To be honest, I never really played around with it that much because it didn’t feel to be worth the effort, so maybe it still wouldn’t do much. But it’s worth a try.

As for the mysterious blue item, I was watching the video again and it looks like a lantern to me. I think there were some flame effects, but it could’ve just been the blue sphere that appears when blocking. Honestly, the video quality is so bad I can’t even tell.

The blue item is reportedly Chris’s stun rod. I can’t say for sure though. Also, Lei Lei seems to have a Steel Samurai doll she can throw now, unless it was just in her intro animation as seen at the 0:16 mark in the Strider vignette ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XPEHd26mMI ).

Edit: Actually, looking back at the Strider video, that totally is Chris’s stun rod.

Double Edit: Also Arthur’s daggers, unless that’s actually a sword.

Steel Samurai, nice. Get us some more Phoenix Wright stuff :rofl:

A gavel that stuns. It’s so perfect. I hope she has something like that.

Yeah, that’s Chris’ stunrod all right. Its effect is probably adding more hitstun or something. I wonder if the Steel Samurai statue does anything…

And I think that sword is just a sword. She throws them in her home series.

Maybe the Steel Samurai statue is a precursor to a stun item like the Akuma statue was in Vampire.

If she had a pattern to her items like in her home series, that’d be really nice.

And shoutouts to LL.ND for representing the Hsien-Ko community. Those were some good, close matches. Good stuff from Sabre, too. Beat Buktooth with Lei Lei.

YESSS! SHE CAN TOSS MORE THINGS NOW! JUST WHAT WE NEEDED!

That’s it?

I guess they heard the fans, after all we were pleading for more random items to toss.

Well that obviously isn’t a full changelog. I’m still hopeful.

Maybe the new items will have new effects similar to Hawkeye’s arrows.

Yeah, I know. Just seemed kind of weak to throw that out there when that’s not her problem at all.

Hawkeye arrow effects would be interesting. All I know of now are his freeze, poison, and hard knockdown arrows. And we can be sure that Chris’ stunrod will cause an electric effect (of course) that probably adds hitstun or something.

Maybe they’re trying to shift her focus toward zoning or keepaway? That’d be weird.

Well I noticed during the session pretty much all they were covering was move properties or health differences. Perhaps they felt saying “She’s faster now” wasn’t what they felt people would be interested in. I dunno.

Yeah, I can see that. New items would get some people curious. We’ve still got to hold out for a while as we get more information over the next months. LL.ND said he’d play her in the UMvC3 demo, so we won’t even hear back from him until het gets back from Evo. Maybe the new items are a sign that the team actually went through the time to focus on her.

They said somewhere that all the characters will have mashable moves to get more damage in UMVC3. She may get a new for this, or will her Senpu bu be her mashable move? Her having different properties on her item tosses would be interesting, but how well of a strategy can you build around item tosses when you don’t know which one you will get?

In the meantime I will just try to avoid thinking to myself, “if only Lei Lei could cancel her… sigh” whenever I see a good Spiderman player.

That’s why I hope it doesn’t turn into a well-intentioned gimmick.

Pendulum will probably remain her mashable move. I just want that canceling. Now how can we let Seth know about this, and I wonder if the Hsien-Ko playtesters even know about this…

Cancellable Pendulum with S would be so amazing. Combined with the ability to do it three times in the air would give her all the air mobility she could ever need. Would be even better if she could maintain forward momentum off it.

I’m pretty sure that when they said ‘Everybody has a mashable move’ they probably meant that everybody has a super or hyper that gains additional damage when buttons are mashed, sort of like in Marvel 2.

But what could that Hyper be, seeing as none of them really lend themselves to having a “mash” aesthetic?

Maybe mashing during Tenrai Ha causes more iron balls to fall?

That’s what I was thinking.
