Yeah, I imagine it’d be hard to program a beam being reflected, though i know nothing about programming. There’re just tons of projectiles that would make sense to bounce back, and would improve her chances against characters like Trish (uggh) by at least a bit. Just look at that video made a few days after release with the stuff Gong interacts with. Most of it is canceling out other stuff.
Though I will admit, two Gongs clashing is kind of funny looking.
I’m not expecting any changes from NYCC. Seth’s side comment last night was the death knell, at least for me. Time to start thinking about those command normals…
Not getting the reference, though I guess what you’re implying is that he said something to the tune of there are no more planned character changes and they are just polishing things up before release.
On last night’s stream, Filipino Champ said to Seth something like, “I was actually surprised to see a Hsien-Ko here tonight.” To which Seth responded, “Yeah, she has some pretty crazy projectiles. Oh, and she has some of that streamlining of moves we mentioned earlier…”
And just kind of trailed off. Then he went back to talking about the match going on.
It may not be as dramatic as that, and I’d go look for it, but I already have WNF open right now.
He was trying to say that she is awkward to talk about because he knows she is crap. It is like talking to that drunk alcoholic uncle you never see because no one will come near him at the family reunion.
A sad state of affairs.
I think the Hsien-Ko match against X-Ray is at the twenty-five minute mark in part II of the archive. The part where FChamp mentions Hsien-Ko is almost exactly at the fifty minute mark in part III of the archive footage.
It is like no one there has ever played Vampire Savior. :’(
In this video, you can see (if you look closely at the lefthand player’s UI, another problem I think needs fixing) Ryu’s health drain while he’s off-point during Denjin Mode:
Possible hope for Rimoukon to drain off-point to make way for other buffs? It’s a very small hope, but it’s hope. Seriously, if they do this for Ryu and not for Lei Lei, my eyes will go all anime-spiral dizzy style in confusion.
Though knowing Capcom, they’ll just make it drain off-point and leave it at that.
Well, the logic here is that Rimoukon is what gives her the potential to be “overpowered” (in Capcom’s eyes). So she’s just stuck as an assist character. One of the ideas that’s been floating around here is that if they’re afraid of Gold Armor becoming overpowered, they should just make it run down off of point. Limited number of uses. Whatever. Something to give her a new new lease on life/undeath.
Capcom be pretty retarded to think that if that’s the case. If everyone and their mother was using her for her assist then it may hold water (like Haggar and Tron) but no one ever did. Risk far out-weighed the reward.
I’m trying to think why she is “hard to balance” as capcom says.
The way senpu-bu is right now, it’s one of the few moves, besides hypers, that isn’t affected by push block. If senpu-bu was canceable at any point plus with a good lock-down/overhead/low-hitting assist, would that make her approach/mix-ups too good? Like she’s able to cancel senpu-bu before going airborne and instead goes for a low/teleport dash to trick you. Cancelable senpu-bu+assists should allow more time for left/right dashes or box-jump attempts. Could she start a block string with cancelable senpu bu to negate the push block?
There’s a lot of talk that her gold armor should last longer. But you can also look at Soki’s oni transformation in tvc, where he had:
-constant hyper armor that lasted depending how much meter he has
-normals did chip damage
-able to cancel normals/specials into soul absorb to make himself safe
-soul absorb mechanic that gave him meter and health
-but cannot tag out/call assists, which is the only thing leilei can do.
Yet with all these things and universal air dash, this was still a bad move as pretty much the whole cast can outrun him and just wait for the armor to run out.
Anki hou is ass plain and simple.
Gongs, and reflectors in general, just aren’t that useful in this game. Either they’re multi-hitting projectiles that clash with each other upon reflection(sent drones, task arrows, phoenix fireballs), beams that only get absorbed, storm’s whirlwind that rips right through, or are the few normal single hitting fireballs that reflect properly.
The reason I can see Capcom nerfing Golden Assist would be because some people complain about it, and Capcom makes weird decisions. Though I think they’ll just keep her there just to be “safe.”
I remember these forums questioning whether cancelable Pendulum would lead to to easy 50/50’s, and I remember the consensus being that it wouldn’t be too big of a problem. It’s somewhere in one of the threads here. We’re all more experienced now, though, so maybe we should think it over. And even then, would it outcheese the bullshit that the top tiers enjoy? Though maybe the goal is to avoid that in the first place, it doesn’t look like it’s going away.
Oh! I know guys! It’s her command grab! If it had more range, it’d lead to… things. Yeah.
Let’s give it the worst case scenario: cancelable Pendulum would lead to a guaranteed 50/50 every time.
She still deals ass damage
She still builds ass meter
She’s still slow as shit and is easily zoned.
If you use Rimoukon to get in, she still builds ass damage and builds no meter, and it wears off in 5 seconds.
It would not outcheese the bullshit top tier characters are able to do. I really don’t know what they are frightened of. She has no ground/wall bounce or hard knockdown specials, she can’t OTG outside of supers… she is just not a damage-dealing character. The only way for her to be threatening at all is through a mixup game, but they are holding her back* for some reason.
Amusingly, one of her win quotes is, ‘Stop holding back! I know you’re stronger than that!’ - We know you are, Hsien-Ko. We know you are.
I think even with decent damage and better speed with the guaranteed 50/50 Pendulum, she still would be fine and wouldn’t compare to stuff like Dante’s “Oh, I’ll just sit here at the top of the screen and spam Thunderbolts that deal massive chip while I regen my red health” or Wesker’s new glasses effect where you are actually rewarded for getting hit. And at the very worst, it’d take some practice to effectively use Pendulum Cancels without getting blown up from a wrong read.
One of her new win quotes is, “This isn’t magic, it’s Senjutsu… What’s the difference? Man, there is no way I can hope to explain that here and now…” Stop being so humble, Hsien-Ko. We know what you’re capable of.
I just want someone to win a major with Hsien-Ko on on their team (or even better, on point) so that during the inevitable post-fight interview they’ll have an actual platform to talk about how awful she is and how much of a challenge it was to win.
And hey, who knows - according to Seth’s interview they said that this likely the last “version” of Marvel to come out for a long time, so in the meantime maybe we’ll see some free balance patches…?
