New trick up our sleeves: The Hsien Ko changelog

I learned :d:+:h: with Wolverine. Now I win forever. Took me 1 round to figure it out how to play him
.
step 1::d:+:h: “did it hit?” yes => faceroll fightstick xx Fatal Claw; No => go to step 2.
step 2: Repeat step 1 until it works.

You know I started with only Team Darkstalkers because I was like, “awesome.” I thought I was doing okay at first, then I accidentally random select one day and got wolverine. Ever since then I have realized I have a bad habit of picking low-tier characters from the start of games.

We need to post this in every post from now on in the Hsien-Ko forums. Make it the new mission.

Watching the archive DCC6 Japan footage of Vampire Savior/Hunter was really eyeopening for someone like me who has never seen the action live. She is missing so many tools that it is almost depressing, but one of the biggest mysteries is the lack of ES moves for Darkstalkers.

Stolen from my post on another forum:
**"I was watching more of the archived Vampire Savior footage last night and I don’t understand why Capcom doesn’t give the darkstalkers some of their ES moves. Lei Lei could totally use her ES Gongs. They would be faster than her normal gongs, they’d multihit, they’d have something like 10 middle projectile durability points(think Tron’s gustav flame) and using any ES move would cost a Darkstalker 1/3 of a bar. **

** Something like that could prove to be a powerful offensive and Defensive tool without being broken(like Haggar’s lariat on point except not as good). It’d be an awesome way for her to make people think twice before spamming beams in XF3 and such."**

They could totally give her a 5 low durability point dizzy as an ES toss and an ES pendulum with some invul frames if you want to stuff some attempts at hypers more safely. Mapping them would be as simple as using S inputs for the moves too.

I’ve never been one to use sigs before, but this post actually prompted me to do it for once.

Lei Lei’s only real useful ES move is her Gong, but who knows how the others would work in this game. Not too familiar with how useful the other DS characters’ ES moves are besides ES Soul Fist. Hey, if Viper can Focus Attack/cancel, then why not make a throwback to the series that started EX moves?

There was disappointingly less Ko footage than I thought there’d be (Ego got knocked out quickly), though the Ko in B-block that had to face off against Takahashi’s Talbain (thought you’d like that match; it was good, too) and that Sasquatch did well, even if she lost to the Sas (good match still; I thought she was going to take that).

Yeah, she’s actually pretty deep with the Pendulum cancels (knowing when to do it at what point in the swing for different effects, or not canceling at all; baiting; escaping) and it would add some complexity to her game here. Though these posts should go in the wishlist thread.

I forgot about the wishlist thread since I’m so sleepy. I’ll make a note of it next time.

she does have some retarded mixups! the mixups i have with chun lis lightening kicks can kill a character within 10 seconds. i truly believe she is so underrated but the steep learning curve steers people away…and i honestly like it that way cuz i dont want her to be so popular that just about anybody can use her…only a handful can play her efficiently

Why did you have to point that out T_T but also, idk if someone mentioned this already but pendulum seemed faster on point and as an assist

I like how SteelyHawke and Airtola used the same image for their avatars… I am pretty sure I used that image as well shortly. Damn nice image.

Staying up late does strange things to your brain.

Capcom:
“There’s your speed buff. Now quit whining.”

If true, at least it’s a marginal improvement.

And after seeing that avatar, I’m… strangely hungry…

Yours is fat.

Sturgeon’s Law is pretty bad for her fan art (probably the worst of any darkstalker) - you have to turn to Japan for most of the good ones that at least get her basic facial structure right.

Yeah, Lei Lei’s face seems to be all over the place when it comes to most fan art. I don’t get it. Hell, her vanilla MvC3 art doesn’t look that much like her and is completely different than her Ultimate one. Not to mention she’s subjected to a lot of… varying body types.

I think everyone just has there own style of how they draw things. Not to mention Hsien-ko doesn’t have a vast reservoir of source material to pull from that was created by Capcom themselves. Damn near all Hsien-ko art is fan made so it only makes sense for it to be inconsistent from one artist to another.

Night Warriors and Vampire Savior promo art and portraits is already enough definitive material to work from, but you know it’s bad as noble cack mentioned that even CAPCOM can’t get that right. It’s like they used the American cartoon as reference. That might have even been their intent, considering they’re going against Marvel, but this is a fallacy when Tron Bonne comes unscathed in looks. I’ve already dropped my whines and suggestions about that in consdering on CAPCOM Unity. Most probably won’t go through but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Heck, Q Bee has the same exact facial structure but she’s never messed up, probably because her fan art doesn’t start ‘cleavage first’.

Yeah, this is getting pretty offtopic. But this judgmental pickiness grows over time if you’re both a very longtime fan of her and an artist at the same time. It’s like there’s fans of Lei-Lei, and then there’s fans of just her blue tits.

saying that they used the American cartoon as a reference is a bit extreme (she’s not even blue lol), but i can see your point, some of the actual concept art is legit. she actually looks zombie-ish, unlike her cute Gem Fighter self, which i think they used as a basis.

also a noobish question, when you use a mashable hyper, would you have to mash sanford kelly-style, or will it be a bit less extreme? cause i want to preserve my TE as much as possible.

Well the image I used for this vatar… Hsien-Ko is quite… stacked in many ways.

Uh-oh… are you allowed to link from there here?

LL.ND had some great mixups with Pendulum and Tenrai Ha. Those were a couple really exciting matches. I’ve got to study those tomorrow. Plus, they get me excited for the potential jump-cancelable command normals and the mashable TRH.

I’ll admit that after thinking about it, I am getting excited for the confirmed changes, though she still needs so much more. Gongs coming out faster, even slightly faster, should help with the inconsistency currently plaguing the move. Combined with jump-cancelable command normals, I am already theorizing some solid midscreen combos.

I still think that the :f::h::rdp::m: x3 loop will be her biggest damage in the corner, but :m::d::h::f::h::rdp::l::l::m::d::h::f::h: xx j.:h::s:: or j.:m::m::s: :m::d::h::s: sj.:m::m::s: dash :qcb::atk::atk: should be a possible big-damage midscreen combo.

She had nowhere to go but up from where she is now, so I’m trying to not get too excited, nor will I be totally satisfied until she at least gets a cancelable senpu-bu, explode-on-impact bombs, enough time to pull off a super from an air throw and a faster air dash.

One thing that worries me though is that with Tenrai Ha being her mashable hyper now, I really can’t see any practical application for Cheritou. It is literally inferior in every way now and will need to see some substantial improvements beyond coming out faster. It’s still painfully slow and doesn’t cover enough of the screen to make it threatening. My advice? Give it a hefty invincible startup, then it could at least be used defensively, ala Shadow Servant. Oh and for God’s sake, change it so that all 6 of the blades connect and push the opponent back on block instead of just like two - the way it presently works.

you know I thought that your avatar was quite innocent. Hsien Ko standing in cold weather or something. Yeah…not very cold weather attire.

Now after seeing the Fight Club Umvc3 videos, I wonder why they thought it was okay to buff Doom’s Air speed and not Hsien Ko’s?

I’m feeling the same way. I saw at least once where the Gong startup foiled LL.ND from reflecting what I remember to be a Samurai Edge. Made me wince. Also, the last match reinforced just how lopsided the Mags matchup is. Oh well.

That’s how they always get you though, well that’s how they always get ME anyway… Innocent from the neck up, boner inducer from the neck down. I’m a face man though so I guess it works out pretty well.

And I’ve been missing the LL.ND action because I’ve been watching Castle… fuck.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ll ever see that avatar the same way again, unfotunately… not a fan of the body, but whatever.

As for Doom? Well, you know, Doom.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

It’s over, now. The first two matches are great, though.
