the reason why it’s ‘really weird’ is because i didn’t model after the shitty mvc3 appearance which wasn’t even revealed at the time - i used vampire savior sprite, portrait and promo art only as reference
Considering how damn hard it is to model in Source, I’d say that it’s a good job.
The Felicia, however, is spot-on.
If I could model a Lei Lei Jiang Shi hat, I’d submit it to Valve on the item submit, but I don’t know crap about modeling other than how hard it is.
On-toopeek: I look forward to whatever news LL.ND reports back to us. Thank you in advance. Even if it’s only just stuff on the cat.
If you want to see some good ol’ VSav Lei Lei:
Someone posted from Fight Club:
"Hsien-Ko is overall faster, especially airdash. Gongs seem to travel farther too."
oh damn, sorry man, i didn’t mean any offense when i said “really weird”. hell, if i would even try to attempt to make a skin like that i would end up unleashing some unforgivable atrocity to mankind. for something made on your own from scratch it’s really good. i just meant that it seems weird seeing lei-lei/hsien-ko being a demoman in that video: a cocky, ass-shaking (and whatever he does with sticky launcher), drunken explosive swordsman. also i think it just looks weird to me because of the use (or lack) of the strange selection of hats.
-i was reading the thread you linked to and i wanted to ask, would it have been more convenient to fit lei-lei onto a scout, sniper, or spy skeleton, since their models should be a bit smaller compared to the demo?
-i liked what you did in the l4d2 video. lei-lei looks really good in this one. i’d actually rather use her than plain ol’ rochelle, considering i’m usually the one stuck with her when me and the guys actually play this game. it’s pretty funny hearing her say higher pitched rochelle quotes. just imagine her saying “son of a bee-sting” or “sweet lincoln’s mullet”
now going to the subject of gameplay changes, i wonder when the fight club will be done so ll.nd can report some of her changes for the current build. i’m both excited and scared to find out what exactly our girl is capable of at this point.
At this point I can’t get excited for anything that could be considered hearsay, because how many of these people making statements are actual Hsien-Ko players? For now, I’m only willing to believe things that are obvious she didn’t have before - like a cancellable Senpu-Bu or improved bombs.
I want to try this so badly. MAH FRIENDS MAH FRIEND MAH FRIENDS
And maybe it’s just me, but whenever I see a Demoknight flying at me to take my head, I think of Bishamon.
Yeah, best to err on the side of caution with these things.
UPDATE: LL.ND just said that she is indeed not faster. Sigh…
Wait so she got nothing then? Jesus Christ throw us a bone already Capcom.
We asked Capcom to throw Hsien-Ko players a bone.
Next build, Seth said she can could now throw a bone.
LL.ND said he’d be posting a writeup sometime this morning. On the brighter side, he said her Gongs were faster and that Tenrai Ha is her mashable hyper. He said he’ll also go into detail on her jump cancelable command normals.
The whole thing depresses me since Lei Lei and Morrigan haven’t gotten enough compared to other characters. It is made even worse because Ammy has been nerfed and no buffs have appeared(compared to Dorm and Doom who got buffed immensely despite their high rankings) to make up for the loss or her air guard.
I’m not feeling very good about what I’ve seen today at all. Probably going to join the Vergil army come November I guess…
Exactly what I was thinking
Whoop-dee-fucking-doo new random items to toss, does Capcom seriously think it’ll make up for everything she’s lacking? Faster Gongs and jump cancelable normals aren’t going to be enough, not even close.
Alright, here goes. She’s basically been untouched since I last played the evo build, so still no cancelable senpu bu, faster air dash/dash, fixed bombs. Unless there’s a new mechanic behind anki hou I don’t know about, it’s too difficult for thorough testing especially at a packed event like fight club. So while we didn’t get our dream buffs, I was able to testing some new things out.
-Gongs do come out faster, but only slightly. I could’ve sworn I saw it absorb doom’s j.H(laser) right when it was about to hit her. Don’t know if it got better at reflecting most projectiles (like dante and phoenix fireballs)or if they cover her blind spots better. Contrary to whoever said they travel further, they do not.
-Tenraiha is her mashable hyper. Got about 17 hits instead of the usual 9.
-Played more with her jump cancel f+H. Chaining into cr.H, f+H, j.HS, land s.M. cr.H, S, j.MMHS seemed the most consistent to do. You can replace the j.HS with j.MMS to avoid the damage scaling from j.H, but required some tricky timing and you had to be fairly close to your opponent as her normal ground bnb would push 'em too far to follow up. I also tried the j.S, L gong, j.LS, land variation in the corner, but didn’t get to try if it worked midscreen. I didn’t use her f+M at all, but I theorize the jump cancel combos from f+H should work as well and make f+M a great anti-air poke that you can convert into combos.
-I deliberately put her on point first and after awhile of playing I feel she might’ve gotten less floaty from her normal jumps. It might have something to do with the game’s gravity or it could just be me.
So that’s about it, I guess. Feel free to ask me questions
Edit: For steelyhawke: Ammy can’t block during air dash and according to clockw0rk she can’t instant overhead j.L, j.df+H in glaive mode anymore.
For Noble Cactus: I already mentioned before that 3 of her new items all stagger, including the cat statue.
Totally forgot to try out houtengeki>faster chireitou. Bad on my part.
About to head out to a friend’s house, but I appreciate the writeup. It’s a sad state of affairs for the Jiang-shi so far. The Tenrai-Ha and mid screen jump cancels must do some serious damage on their own right? Could you tell us which characters you used those two things on specifically? It might help us get some idea of how much damage she can do. Also, did you try Ammy’s air weapon switch?
I’m gonna post up the info for NeoGAF since we’ve got our own changelog that people are using all over the net. Feel free to PM me if you want it taken off of there and I’ll gladly take it down when I come back.
Thanks for the info!
I don’t remember many of the characters I played or payed attention to how much damage was done. I think I might’ve done half-life damage to wesker with a ground bnb(no jump cancel combo) into mashable tenraiha, but wesker got a health nerf and then there’s also no magic pixel so it’s hard to say. I’m sure the jump cancels will fill the damage buff quota. Ammy does indeed have her air weapon switch.
Oh wow, I would actually use the L4D2 skin and possibly the Demoman skin if it’s available somewhere for download. Though, if there’s somehow a Haggar skin for the Heavy, I will download that in a heartbeat.
Those buffs sound rather nice, but it’s pretty sad to hear the speed buff isn’t there. Tenraiha being mashable sounds very interesting. Did the extra spiked balls do the same damage? Because if so, we’re looking at a 250k damage or more hyper finisher which would improve her damage but at the same time, make Chireitou almost useless. Not only that but if that’s true, then her command grab will be an actual threat with the improved damage. Now, if Hsien-ko’s air grab got buffed…
So basically it sounds like UMvC3 showered attention(deserved buffs and nerfs) on the popular/well known characters and practically ignored the unpopular/obscure characters. Awesome.
Examples:
No one played Haggar on point, so he received no as of yet known buffs. His lariat on the other hand, the only well known feature about him, was nerfed. Tron fell into a similar category, but was played on point far more than Haggar due to her damage and combo potential, and so she saw a few alterations to her point game and a nerf to her Gustaff Flame assist.
She-Hulk and Spencer, two brand new entries to the versus series, were originally underplayed until they started to get attention from top tier players. They now enjoy new moves and buffs. Thor on the other hand seems to have gotten no changes whatsoever, and it comes as no surprise that he was perhaps the least played character on the Marvel side by high level players.
Morrigan and Felicia are “well known” by Capcom fans as either staple characters of the Darkstalkers series or “the vampire chick and the annoying furry who are in all the versus games” by those who aren’t fans. Either way, they did not garner much attention from top tier players and as such saw minimal changes. Morrigan received a new move with questionable use, improvements to Finishing Shower and changes to her air dash mechanic, whereas Felicia gained back a move she already had in MvC2 and saw an uncalled for nerf to her Toy Touch.
Ryu is perhaps the most well-known Capcom character in the game right now but played second fiddle to Akuma throughout MvC3, though he did enjoy some high level representation from a few players (namely Chris G). There was obviously enough of an outcry to differentiate him though from his corrupt counterpart, and top brass at Capcom was more than happy to give the people what they wanted and then some.
Here’s a creative change I thought would be neat when it came to Anki-Hou: If an item connects and scores a stagger or dizzy, Hsien-Ko’s next forward dash will place her right next to the opponent.
Even if her Cr. H hit OTG, her air grab has to be changed so she has enough time to do anything at all before the opponent recovers.
So does Seth have a twitter, or should I ask in Capcomunity why they did practically fuck all to Hsien-Ko?
Why bother?
Never hurts to ask, and who knows? You might get an answer! And we might get some insight as to why they think she didn’t need extensive changes.
As to what LL.ND reported, aside from Tenrai Ha being her mashable hyper, has that in any way affected her gong/tenrai ha loop, or can you still perform it?
