I did try it without and I didn’t like it haha. But none of my joysticks have the stock spring so it may just be what I’m used to, but it felt a little flimsy without the heavier spring. I might buy one more, but I’ll have to think about it. XD
You should try a PAS silent JLF kit and compare the two.

I just noticed that there’s a lot of bounce back on this stick. If I flick it in a direction it’ll bounce back and activate the opposite direction before settling in neutral. This is with the stock spring.
the soft-click nature of the micros dont have as much resistance as the standard, stiffer click micros jlf has.
I get similar deflection effects on a stock JLF, but only on octo gate.
If anyone gets one of these and wants to ditch the gate…holla at me. I’ll take it off your hands.
@ogrebites I would love to send you a gate from the Chinese JLF knock offs. They are one piece also. I’m wondering what the difference between these and the blue gates are. If they are the same, there is a very very low price alternative to the new stick.
I am not trying to steal the thunder of this thread, but I think there is a need for an over all JLF mod and JLF discussion thread, so I started one. The whole debate between the new and old silent stick, Kowals with zippys etc should have a place for public answers.

Got this stick about a week ago, from Arcade Shock. The stick feels the same SAME as a JLF modded with the silent JLF kit from PAS (the kit comes with extra actuators a 2lb spring and costs a lot less!), they both feel great.
I will be trying the Rollie optical pcb next once FA gets them in.
The wife appreciates my quieter arcade sticks =D

It’s just not clear to me what was upgraded from a function standpoint. Putting the Omron’s onto a pcb is great, and that allows it to be easily plugged into existing sticks. No doubt and upgrade there. But I never thought there was any motion or micromotion in the gate. I also thought this would only be important for people who ride the gate, and I didn’t think most people who play on square gates are big on riding the gate (I thought that was more a circle gate tendency). I’m also really curious how the Omron D2RV-G-SD2 is quieter. From what I can tell the Omron D2RV-G and D2RV-G-SD2 are the exact same specs, just different connections.
But this is why I think a thread dicussing all this is important. I could be 100% wrong and everytime something new comes out, it would be nice to know where it fits
i know old thread, just thought i’d chime in and say i have this stick with the 2lb spring and its really smooth.

Congrats! We are quite glad that your stick is smooth! While it’s definitely debatable that this anecdote required reviving a 2 year dead thread, you felt it such that it did. That’s cool with me.
Just know that Tech Talk sub thread list has been getting a bit out of hand lately. Peeps here like @Darksakul are just trying to keep things tidy.

Noticed PAS sells the JLF-TPRG-8AYT-SK kit along with the PAS Silent mod that’s been brought up numerous times on this thread for those who want to upgrade. The later has additional accessories that may have more value for those wanting to upgrade.
I suppose if silence is a goal for some another option would be the Toodles Spark CE Optical JLF, anyone try this one?

I bought three silent kits from PAS to install into existing JLFs, and I really didn’t like them (even with larger actuators and heavier springs). I gave one to my friend and he loves it. Still have to post the other two up for sale here one day. Might find it hard to part with the blue gates though…
I also tried a Gamerfinger optical kit and gave it the boot. I think it’s a design fork based on the Spark, but non adjustable. It was very nice indeed, but just not my thing.
I get the whole silent thing for tourney play and night sessions at home (I’ve got a 15 month old who’s a light sleeper) but there’s just something about the tacticle and auditory cues presented while actuating standard microswitches on joysticks that I crave. It sets a rhythm in my play style that I can’t replicate with an optical sensor or super-quiet reed switches.
Now silencing buttons is something that I can get behind. I highly recommend Little Kahuna pads from PAS for Sanwa and Seimitsu buttons. Great stuff.
It’s actually expected from me now. Like I didn’t hit a old post for a day or two getting Necroed and I got people PMing me asking if I am okay.
