i had a casual st set going on with timbuck2 and the emu crashed around 25 matches in. other than that, it runs good.
He’s still sore from my gief rapings. :hitit:
Maybe it’s the fact that it’s completely unnecessary. Maybe it’s the fact that he took unnecessary (and untrue) digs at GGPO.
How exactly is it making the community bigger and better? By forcing newbies to install extra software to play a limited ammount of games through a shabby lobby? By creating entirely new problems?
Take it easy, no one’s threatening your livelihood. And I didn’t take digs at GGPO. I praise that software, but what I said is true. It’s not unnecessary because I offer more games and features, and a lot of people get better results using the nfba p2p algorithm. Don’t start an unnecessary war.
On that note, new update!
All the requested games have been added, as well as some requested features such as timestamp in chat, taskbar flash when challenged, and some bug fixes.
Not everyone can get GGPO to work so providing an alternative ( with no port forwarding required in the works for the futer ) is a good way to make it bigger in my opinion.
As far as the limited games on there, I could be mistaken but hasn’t he honored ALL requests so far for adding suported games ?
Cut the guy some slack on the problems with the INITIAL releases. I missed this Sundays event because of work but from what I have read in the Super Sundays thread, there was a good turnout with about ten new people IN ADDITION to the regulars.
I am another person who could never get ggpo to work 100 percent. So this is a good alternative for me as well.
Btw, It might be a good idea to ask a mod to move this to the fighting game forum or at least computer matchmaking. I think more people visit those areas of the forums more than tech talk and might not know about this yet.
Because using a central matchmaking software/chat lobby is more efficient than using nFBA/irc channel, is it not?
Jus look at all the amount of international comp - especially from ASIA you can get on GGPO (compared to using straight nfba and random matchmaking from #srkkaillera and others…) I think it’s pretty clear that for this purpose, matchmaking server like ggpo/and 2df is better idea in the long run. Plus, you dont need to open ports from what I’m understanding?
I don’t quite understand why everyone is hating. GGPO is godlike but more competition for ANYTHING = produces better results for everyone in the long run. I don’t see why people can’t just play on both. More options for everyone is always good. Why shit on this project?
I havent been on to play some games yet but after reading some impresssions, GJ damdai im sure itll only get better.
Also, this should be moved to Computer Matchmaking, but I’m not a mod in this forum so I can’t move it.
I am really glad that there is something else besides GGPO. Keep up the good work damdai, and Raisin’s a cool ass dude.
im all for this. good luck,
on another note…
moved to computer matchmaking
Will you be implementing the ranking system used in ST to other games??
WOW i cant wait till this supports 3s…if its as good as GGPO on the international gameplay from what i hear…the competition online will skyrocket along with this…ive always wanted to play ppl from Asia or Japan…this is gonna be CRAZY…keep up the good work fellas…you’re heroes in my book
If anyone wants to request something like super sundays for another game, do so here or in the 2df forums. Keep in mind that I plan on adding xbox live style ranked battles, so people can find a ranked match at any time. But the weekly events are good for large, happy gatherings. The super sundays crowd is great.
Thanks for the support everyone!
How could this possibly be a bad thing? Its way more convenient than having to look for matches in aim or irc.
Plus Damdai seems more committed to fixing bugs.
I can’t believe I still cant play on ggpo even after I reformatted my freaking hard drive. There’s something really finicky about that program…
I would like to see Garou or Marvel Super Heroes personally for super sundays. 2v2s lol. Like seriously. That would be good.
But if it were for the srk masses community wise…I’m pretty sure everyone would like either Alpha 3, Marvel vs Capcom, or SamSho IV.
he says there isnt port forwarding needed but it is needed to host games. this is just a chat/match making service on top of nfba. its a good idea but no where near its full potential. the games on it are really good and damdai adds games all the time. but really this is the same thing as going on efnet and asking for around for games.
The big advantage this has over NFBA/IRC is that it has a standard version of NFBA and the p2p client built in. Other matchmaking lobbies/IRC whatever doesn’t specify that - after you find someone who wants to play, you have to make sure you have the same emulator, same kaillera version, etc. It’s annoying as hell when you play someone but they have Feb 12 and you have Feb 23 and you’re desynching and it takes 10 minutes to figure out why. This way, nobody has to hunt for the right downloads (beyond the roms) and you just play.
true but most( 95% ) people on efnet(#srkkaillera) use the same emu.
People like convenience.
Ponder has my deepest apologies for some of the comments in this thread and some other threads concerning people comparing nfba and ggpo.
NFBA could never compare to Ponder’s work. It was never in my intentions for nFBA to compete or serve as an “alternative” to GGPO as some people would like to see it as. NFBA still has a long way to go to get all people off kaillera servers with high input lag. For all the ignorant bastards who does not like to listen: GGPO is superior. Regardless of how your gameplay feels, nFBA merely mimics GGPO and does a vary bad job at that and its rather limited. Just because someone on the internet says so doesn’t make nfba any better.
Putting all that aside, I have no ill feelings towards this project or any of damdai’s other work. Initially, he just wanted to build a less hectic matchmaking system for his st playing community because nfba has next to nothing in that department. I’m sure he’d have used ggpofba and its associated programs if it was readily available for that purpose or he might never have needed to think of something like this if st was on live ggpo. With nFBA DTR9 as its base emulator, its not much competition for GGPO even if damdai wanted it to be like that and I am sure thats not what he wants.
But I cant help thinking the wording of the first post could have been different.
Well, that sums up everything I could say or imply no matter how many posts I made.
I’ve played 3 or 4 different people in Karnov’s and all of them were fine… I think with maybe one person I would maybe see very tiny rollback on, like I see the flash from hitting their weak point and then it rolls back and they blocked… it would probably be nearly impossible to tell this is rollback without the flash, so it’s a little distracting. But it’s not bad at all.
Yeah that’s what I think pretty much rubbed some people the wrong way, even if damdai didn’t mean any harm by it. Although I still like GGPO better, it’s nice to have a choice if people want to play games that aren’t supported on there. I think lag-wise the next version of GGPO is going to perform a lot better than nFBA.
