New mortal kombat is coming

OK I was woken up before work this morning with two phone calls and several IMs about this, I can finally study it and here’s what I’ve got so far:

They will never use FF for dash. They might have a hold forward option that will turn into a run or dash type, but if there’s no dash at all, I absolutely will not play it. That would be horrendous and disgusting.

What I’m seeing here of importance, and again it’s so early in developement so far as I know, there’s no way to tell what’s going to stay and what won’t, or what will be added:

Mileena’s roll has some kind of lock in on collision, which leads me to believe when you hit the roll, the way the opponent sells the hit will always be the same, however we do only see it connect on the ground, so we don’t know how a juggle hit will work. This is a worst case scenario and it’s a bad one. In UMK3 and to some extent MKII, you could controll which direction your opponent flipped through timing. That was important for her.

Also Mileena looks to do a double air sai. Don’t know what that is about, on top of that, she does it off the Teleport Kick, but not one but two Teleport Kicks?, special special cancels?

Teleport Uppercut, JK (which looks like it has decent classic collision) Teleport Uppercut again from Sektor? Followed up by one of those horrendous clobbering air hits. Reminds me of the overhead launchers that make you bounce up, ie: Kabal, that I hated in the last series. Two missiles at once? What the Hell is going on?

Looks like Kung does a combo juggle off a launcher, with a similar effect when you do an otg combo in UMK3 but more deliberate collision.

Sub has a stab move with the ice sword in what appears to be a throw (he grabs, hits, stabs, camera changes), I don’t think that will operate like they did in MKDA. Also, the stupid freeze animation bothers me. Why can’t they freeze in the position they were in when they get hit, or like, continue the movement til they full freeze? Why is that so hard? Why do they have freeze like they are about to get run over by a bus? Ugh.

I see Johnny Cage do two aajabs, cancel to green ball, but then either cancel, or do another ball, which looks like it might just be a single move or a fake out concept, which would be good for him, to toss one over head but then follow up with a ground one to stop advancement, but hey that would only be worth something if you have a dash, and if you don’t have a dash, Cage becomes tier 1!

Overall, as much as a lot of people wanna say “This is like UMK3!” from what I can tell, that’s sort of an illusion. To me it’s more like MKII so far, which is not cool. Only time will tell.

Kara Edit: Let me say this, I still see potential in this game.

I think that they should have ditched most of the characters and started fresh with some more sophisticated design. Maybe keep sub and scorp as the ryu/ken.

I’m guessing the double specials are probably the Pro/Just Frame moves from MKvsDC.

Is that what they are? I’ll be honest I’ve never once played MKvDC

One of the many reason why Superman’s ground pound infinite and Green Lantern’s Breaker into Hammer x3 was so broken, but effective

It would be crazy if they put these game in malls and arcades along with ssf4, killer instinct 3, and sen. That could fuck around and save this genre. Then again i’m always wrong :coffee:

At this point in history, I wonder who the hell would go to a mall to play a video game… More likely WB will release arcade sticks as well.

I’m looking forward to this game. seems like it’s going to have a massive roster of mostly classic characters. I wonder if they’ll keep with the block/run buttons along with universal sweep, back roundhouse, uppercut, throw, and cross-up. I hope Shang Tsung and Cyrax are in this

Mortal Kombat ironically could give this genre a second wind that it needs . Whether we want to admit or not street fighter 4 didn’t give the genre the second wind that it needed to get to the forefront of gaming.

I’m looking forward to this game. Going back to 2D is a great idea. I would buy it the instant it comes out if they announced Jax or Baraka

I doubt it but if they do it better have the proper layout or people will be pissed.

And a run button!

Which I hope is optional or part of the single player campaign only. I don’t want the Mortal Kombat equivalent of a Vs. game.

3D MK Air Combos = Horrible Gimmicks

I sure hope they release an arcade stick.

So far, there is so much speculation on a potential good MK! If it does happen, and if it is good. I hope people buy the game, practice and get the MK scene completely active! It’s about damn time. LETS GET SOME TOURNAMENTS GOING PEOPLE!

Pro GP was broke indeed…led to an infinite that could be set up off of whatever…

Breaker combo…not so much…just a good tool. If you baited breaker, he only gets like 10%, and if he wants to use it, he has to eat full damage combos if he ever gets launched.

I checked out the trailer for MK9 and it looks good so far. It is great that this is sticking to 2D. Everything looks good so far.

Holy shit I’m psyched.

Stun attack + Rage = big damaging combo. The wonders of MKvsDC. I doubt rage will be in this game, as it was a plot element for MKvsDC’s story.

On the heels of me shitting on MK YESTERDAY, MK9 is trying to right the wrongs of the last 6 Mortal Kombat games.

But. Those air combos look a little outlandish. Like they are suspended in the air. Marvel Combat.

MK Armageddon fell victim to this already.

I look forward to seeing more. I may Actually get this game.

Which would be the second MK I’ve ever bought. The other being MK vs DCU. And I only got that because I’m a DC nerd.

Despite not being much of an MK fan perhaps this can pave the way for SF vs MK? I’d Love to see that made. It wouldn’t even have to be a great game to be a huge seller lol
