UMK3 is the only MK game that stands up to SF in any way.
If the characters and gameplay looked like Shao Kahn and Raiden do in the beginning, I’d be all over this, but right now I’m still just keeping my eye out. I have a feeling a lot of the graphics we see are placeholders. They do look small in the gameplay footage, but Kahn and Raiden are just fantastic.
And if you think that MKvsDC was better than MKA (or anything 3d before MKA for that matter…and don’t even think about saying MK4, cuz then why not play UMK3 ), then you sir need a passport to the fail country that is…

MKA is trash. It was however a fanboy’s wetdream when it came to the character cast. I’ll say this though, MKA at least fixed the recovery system from what it was in MKD.
Now when you BOTH say MKA is trash or yadda, yadda…then I ask have you PLAYED THE FUCKING GAME? Cause I can sit here and tell you why MKA is a decent fighter AT WORST, in a detailed fashion. It’s annoying that in this competitive community, people judge fighters off of other’s opinions…without even playing the fucking game.
I PLAY UMK3! I have said that like twice in here. And I post in the UMK3 revival thread, so both of you can kick rocks. :lol: I grew up with the fucking series and I stuck with it up until MKA (I don’t like nor do I respect MKvsDC…yet I played it and I can tell you why that game fucking sucks). I play 3d fighting games. So I can RESPECT MKA and what it tried to do. Strict 2d players (especially the UMK3 ones), couldn’t possibly “understand”. I guess. :rolleyes:
My only issue with MKA is that the fatalities FUCKING SUCK (especially if you’re not creative with CAF)! But playing 3d fighting games without fatalities or even blood (i.e: Soul Calibur/Tekken/VF) for so long, it’s easily to not give a shit about how the fatalities are in MKA (at least some type of fatality option is there).
Anyways, I already stated I hope MKIX is leaned towards UMK3 (at best) or the fusion of good things from UMK3/MKA (at worst…and it very much looks like that is what this may turn out to be). So more people will be comfortable giving the game a chance. And the community can be revived.
But this game isn’t going to please everyone, like MKA didn’t (or the other games after UMK3). And I gues that’ll be…or is…too fucking bad.

But if you did like the MK movie trailer (I liked the movie trailer too), then I agree that MK (and this applies to its games too) should be completely different than anything before it.
I own MKA. I can list some of the things that turned me off about the game.
-Aerial combo relaunch system
-Removed 2nd stance from characters in MKD and recycled them and distributed among the rest of the cast
-Branch combos dumbed down and some removed. as well as the branch system itself.
-Removed specials from certain characters and from weapon stance
Motor Kombat was more enjoyable than the actual game, which isn’t saying much.
Are u talking about the Aerial CS Glitch (which has been fixed in the Wii version) or are u talking about the Air Throw/Air Knock Down Rebounce (which can be avoided by holding block to STAY on the ground)?
I see nothing wrong with that. This was their way to rebalance the game from MKD (since everyone complained about 3 stance dail combo BS). And you do know that the stances have been recycled since MK:DA right?

DE, I played MKA for two years religiously…MKA fucking sucks.
For starters, there’s absolutely no blockstun. Whatever move you throw out is likely gonna get punished on reaction. It’s like Genesis Justice League all over again, lol. There’s no real way to play offense…turtle match 100% until someone gets fucking bored. There’s only a small handful of moves that are only safe due to attacks not coming out fast enough. If you can’t punish off of block in this game…wtf are you doing still playing fighting games? Note MKDC does not have this issue.
Second off…the game is littered with infinites. Not UMK3 infinites…where they’re not only difficult but at times situational…we’re talking dumb shit like Kenshi h2h 3,3 > walk forward and repeat, or with Jade throw > teleport > put it through the dishwasher and reuse. You’re just pressing 1 fucking button LOL…combine this with what I just mentioned about blockstun. And it’s not like no one has an infinite…EVERYONE has an infinite with air combo cancel. It’s dumb as shit…the only way to stop it is using 1 of 3 combo breakers that don’t replenish after a round. MKDC has a couple infinites, but only 2 are not situational…and every infinite can be escaped with Rage meter (though if Superman infinites you, you’re likely gonna die before you can escape).
It’s so bad, MKA’s community agreed to ban infinites…even then, that doesn’t make the game anymore playable. It just means you now have more than 1 chance to not fuck up and have your move blocked. At least in MKDC you have some degree of safety and you don’t automatically lose by going on the offensive.
Aside from the gameplay, there was shit else besides Motor Kombat…even then that got stale. Created characters are so fucking broke…they’re even worse than whatever else is designed in the game. Konquest mode sucks. The game is total ass.
The question isn’t have we played the game…the question is have you fucking played the game digimonemporer? If you’ve played MKA and played MKDC…how the fuck can you sit there and say MKDC is WORSE? Are you that blind?

EDIT: Okay so the Wii version of MKA still has ACs. I didn’t know this til the end of reading his post. I tried testing the ACs a lot when I got the Wii version of MK, so many moons ago. I guess for me its either really weird timing this time around or I just fail at doing them. Air Combos on the Wii version of MKA feel tighter IMO. Definitely not the same like on the PS3/XBOX versions.

That is absolutely not fucking true. Saying that every normal poke/combo string (or parts of it) being unsafe is absolutely redic. Have YOU PLAYED TEKKEN? That is one of the most boring 3d fighting games EVER. Where it basically comes down to who can out turtle the other. But realistically that’s in every fighting. And in MK there are special moves (projectiles) to force your opponent to make bad evasive decisions (again same just like any other fighting game). Mixing up throw and lows and some aren’t too bad at all. There’s pleanty of ways to imply offensive pressure in MKA. You wanna punish off a block? Throw them or do your fastest frame moves. There’s options.
DON’T GET THROWN! PLAY SAFE/GAY AS POSSIBLE! Isn’t this the golden rule in fighting game? But wait those infinites have been fixed in the Wii version of the game. Guess this is a dead issue now.
I didn’t play much ONLINE because it’s dumb. THE ONLY COMMUNITY THE GAME HAD…WAS ONLINE. And online characters are redic. Sure the infinites were soft banned. But using breakers wisely and taking damage (sacrificing damage)…you can edge out a win with being smarter than your opponent. Especially since people suffer from human error. And the silliness has been fixed in MKA on the Wii.
Well this is simply your opinion, so no harm here. But I think Konquest mode for MKA was really good, with a great story. So cheers.

I always wondered if it wasn’t Midway who forced MK to go 3D. Can that be confirmed at all? Boon’s always said he liked 2D more so it always confused the shit out of me why he was making garbage ass games. Mix that with Sony putting pressure on developers to make everything 3D in the PS1/PS2 days.
An entire decade was wasted imo with the switch to 3D for a lot of franchises. Everything seems to be coming back though so it’s all good.

I hope they make this game really grimdark and badass as fuck. Like Scorpion having a fatality where he shoots his spear at your eyes and rips out each eye and eats them while laughing at you, and blood spraying everywhere.
Also wtf is this shit about MKA having no blockstun? Blockstun is an antiquated feature from the old SF2 days. games need to evolve past that shit. It’s not even realistic, if you punch or kick someone in real life, they’re not gonna be stuck in blockstun. They may reel back or stagger a bit if it was a really hard blow or to prepare a counter attack more carefully, but blockstun isn’t fucking real guys. That’;s why MK was more realistic than shitty ass boring fucking Tekken, cuz tekken had that retarded blockstun shit. I want my fights to feel like a fast paced kung fu movie, not shit with guys stuck in block animation, that shit is stupid and needs to go. No wonder SF4 sucks, you SF fans want everything to be just like SF2, it’s fucking pitiful. if you had shit your way every fighting game would just be SF2 mechanics and nothing else.
