NEW game NEEDS different art direction? Maybe?

I also noticed that Ryu said “SHINKU HADOUKEN!”. So where does Denjin come into play? If the revenge bar is Shinku Haouken then where is Denjin?

Denjin likely what Shinku turns into when he does his super while V-trigger is active.

fuck hadoukens, SFV please give me this

Yes, they cause white health chip that regenerates if you don’t take damage. Specials still do non-regeneratable chip, but you can’t chip-out KO someone anymore. I like those changes to the chip system as it rewards good offense and good defense. Good defense because blocks in a clutch moment really matter now. Good offense because if you are beating on someone for awhile and they have a good chunk of white health, when you finally open them up you get that damage added onto your attack, which is sweet.

This is also probably why Ryu is the slow shoto here. It might be too much if he was fast enough to jail someone in the corner, then do cr.mk into fierce hadouken on block, using the 3 hits to allow him to activate V-trigger and toss guard break hadouken, then try to combo after it.

This sounds awesome, but makes me wonder how his Denjin Hadoken will work on block.

Probably something like hella chip, then guard break on the last hit. Or they’ll just make it straight up guard break on the first hit.

Settle down kids, and let grandpa tell you about a long ago time called the 1990’s - when fighting games and video arcades were king!

There were two companies locked in fierce competition. . . :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d rather Capcom stop churning out atrocious looking fighting games, and try to push the envelope with a graphical style closer to the production art.

There is nothing from the last generation of Capcom fighters I want to see repeated visually.

Nuke it all from orbit, rebuild from the ground up.

So far the art style looks similar to SFIV and it looks like they reused the same models and just made some minor tweaks.

They should of went the route ASW did with GGxrd and make them look more ANIME.

Now before anybody starts complaining about the anime art style, i just want to say, anime doesn’t always equal big huge eyes/hair, which i think is a big misconception a lot of people have.

I would show some beautiful examples right now of how the art style should look like, but half of them are from Doujin comics and i dont feel like editing them in Photoshop to make them appropriate to show on these forums i dont feel like finding any right now.

Everyone’s always saying Street Fighter should have gone the GG Xrd look. I’m glad they didn’t. I find these advanced 3d models to be more realistic, better shaded, and more intricate than the anime gimmick.

The problem with the anime style is that a lot of people just don’t like anime, even if I like some anime and dont mind that style in games, I have friends that really don’t like it and avoid it like the plague.

Hell a lot of people are just against cell shaded games in general, because it looks childish or some crap.

So not going the full anime route is probably a smart move, I think the game looks promising so far.

I hate how people keep saying this when just looking closer at the models shows otherwise.

Also.

This. As much as I hate to say it, cel-shading doesn’t necessarily have mass appeal.

I don’t wan’t SF to get shitty comic-style, in MvC3 only have sense because marvel characters.
Let SF stay japanese looking. Not full anime but still jap looking

Marvel 3 looks like animated barbie dolls, which is expected considering that Shinkiro was the lead artist.

My favorite thing about this animation is the music volume dropping to silence as Ryu’s fist makes contact. It’s the little touches, man…

Hmmmmmm…normals causing regen chip now…I’m not sure how I feel about that. On one hand you can’t lose via chip anymore…but on the other hand any attack causes chip…hmmmmmmmmm. I wonder since anything causes chip that things will be less safe on block then in previous titles to avoid constant harassment of + on block things.

It reminds me of MK gameplay just slightly tweaked. I’ll miss chip KO’s though. I gues that means fireball zoning is going to be stronger in 5 this time. It also seems they took yet another page from KI (regen health cash in for more dmg). I think I’ll like these changes.

Now I just hope capcom doesn’t troll me and make Juri’s counter take regen health. If I counter iI don’t’ expect to take ANY dmg whatsoever. I really hope it’s like SFxT where Juri’s counter meant taking no dmg. That would be great. Oh and 1f start-up too.

If Mehvel 3 looked like Shinkiro’s art - I would love it. That game reminds of those awful Fleer Flair Marvel cards that got crapped out in the 90’s when airbrushing and bad art were all the rage in comics:

That’s a terrible “paint over” of some sweet back-in the day Jim Lee art. Sorry, I couldn’t find the Lee original; but I’d take the Lee original every time over that trash.

If SF4 looked like what I see in the production art book - I would love it.

This is the look Capcom ought to be chasing.

Street Fighter is starting to look more like Tekken visually, just generic pseudo realistic 3D characters. The awesome production art is being lost in the process. Granted, that loss has always existed in Street Fighter games - but for me it’s been the most egregious in these past two installments because I know amazing things can be done with polygons and graphics engines if the developers try.

Yeah, Shinkiro was part of the problem, tbh never liked his work specially back in KoF times

If you ask me there are two artist that should never touch SF stuff again, Artgerm and Shinkiro

But this time i jump the chance to blame only his style, a good 50% imho was the combo models/filter/colors/font to follow comics style

I liked way more old MvC/MvC2, when marvel characters where just 100% visually traslated into Capcom jap style… with the third was more an hybrid thing, with an heavy % on the marvel side

But whatever, in a marvel game (specially during the heavy westernized past gen) i can understand why they did this. And for many characters even worked.
But in SF? No thanks, keep that shit out of the Temple

Shinkiro was not the problem with mvc3.
