SF5 wont be out until (at the earliest) late 2015. It’ll be almost 4 years since SFxT was released by then and there wasn’t ever a “Super” SFxT just 1 pretty big balance patch. Unless Capcom revisits SFxT than it’s a moot issue. Plus the game is fairly dead competitively with only a few die hard fans.
Lastly, TxSF is being developed by Namco and will likely be more akin to Tekken style with 3D environments rather than SF style 2D plane combat. SF style games such as SF4, SF5, and SFxT wont really be competing with Tekken x SF because other than the characters the game will be VASTLY different mechanically.
the biggest problem visually to me is that the characters look like they’re a part of the background too much. they match the lighting too well and don’t stick out. it’s not hard to fix this at all so i wouldn’t be surprised if things changed drastically with the lighting over the coming months. as far as the models themselves, they’re a big improvement over SF4 imo. not too realistic and not too cartoony. i’d rather them be cartoonish than realistic though as a personal preference.
The fun thing is that as stylistical jump there is already more difference between SF4 a SFV than there was between SFA and SF3
The true huge jumps was
SF1->SF2
SF2->SFA
SF3->SF4
Yet peoples seem to see SF3 as the jump, where on reality it keep good part of SFA art process and improve it in a straight vertical way (like SFV is doing with SF4) going for better sprites, better animations and so on
The true revolution that given the game a different look was NOT in the art style/tech, but in the cast revolution (that not everyone liked) and the weird darkstalkers route the chara design took
Is ironic that if we want divide SF in SF1-2-A-3-4-V, SF3 is maybe the one that have done the smaller jump as look itself, yet is used as example lol
Give a little bit of sprite/animation (specially animation) upgrade to most of SFA characters an they will visually acceptable in SF3
Again, the only problem is in peoples eyes
You was expecting something different from what SFV look? Ok, i can’t help with that
You see SFV as “look the same as SF4” ? Sorry dude, you’re fucking blind
Now I’m not sure about how much better the PS4 is for designing the models, but I can’t help but feel they could have made models like this for SF4(obviously not as detailed)… but it’s like they weren’t that good at making 3d models yet so we had ugly vanilla SF4 models. Just look at early designs of Chun and Sakura, they were ugly as fuck. You notice the new chars in Super/AE/Ultra look A LOT better than the vanilla ones. I just hope SF5 stays consistent in detail for each char model.
SF5 looks really good to me. Like stated earlier, the models need to stand out more. Maybe it’s stage specific though since this one is dark.
Honestly, if the number 5 wasn’t shown in the video I would’ve thought this was an upgraded SF4 for the new consoles with some added moves. The tech they’re using for the characters just makes them look like clay models or colored sausages.
I agree thats what I thought when I saw the dumb Rise Up trailer. Te gameplay trailer did look awesome though.
Also I dont get where people get the idea of 3D sf3 style from. The moves look 3s and the characters look older, but if people looked at the art style of sf3, they would realize its not a 3D version of that.
My guess is that the box art with Ryu was drawn fairly early on, and used as the basis for Ryus sfv model (dem nostrils.)
What’s the rush? It’s far too soon to be pushing another SF especially with the PS4 getting ultra next year. Don’t you want the best possible SF5? By mid-2016, imagine with all the hype created through 2015 and how large the PS4 installed base would be. It would also give PC player enough time to upgrade if they need it.
Guilty Gear Xrd, BlazblueCP, Mortal Kombat 10, SF4U, Persona Ultimax, Skullgirls; we don’t want the risk of oversaturation. Ultra is fine and we just got it a couple month ago. Just keep Ultra balanced and things will be fine. Here, watch some good ole Ultra and see what I mean friend:
Vanilla SF4 was released 7 years ago. Even though it’s had 5 revisions none of them changed how the game played. Outside of adding new characters, the different versions amounted to making changes to frame data. Not enough of a change to make it feel like a different game. Too soon for SF5 my fucking ass!
You clearly don’t know what over saturation is. You want over saturation look at the MOBA scene.
