Everyone in MvC3 looks like a plastic doll or a supermodel, which is expected considering that they based it on Shinkiro’s style.

Things of note.
-Ryu’s hair is now black and spiky, like it was in SFIII.
-Ryu’s head angle is different. Less upright than IV/xTekken, more hunched like SFIII.
-The cloth modeling on Chun’s dress is better. the front part on the leg now flows in between her legs, again like SFIII.
-Chun no longer has that awkward backwards lean she had in IV.
-Chun still has the open palms from IV
That image really puts things into perspective, thanks d3v.
I’ve been seeing this response on other sites.
I like it. Not just the character models, but the backgrounds. The background in the Ryu/Chun match looks identical to what I see walking down certain streets in China.
Capcom looks to be really trying to step it up this time.
“Need”? Nah. It will do just fine.
Ryu looks badass in V, mentally challenged in IV/xTK.
They should have just used the art style in 3s.
I thought it was just me… It does look like the game clay fighters. haha. Maybe it is what tekken street fighter was gonna be, but they are gonna go ahead and make it sf5.
Other than the more angular face and the closer sternum gap everything else is almost identical to SF4 in terms of art design. The things mentioned outside of those 2 things are all based on technical stuff due to hardware / engine limitations. Things like the modeled out frayed edges of the gi, using flat meshs for the muscles, using texture based details instead of model details, none of that has to do with art style just technical limitations.
The face and lighting style is much different and that can’t be overlooked but the overall art direction is pretty close to SF4 style in terms of musculature, proportions, and stylization.
What he means is theres no drastic change to the art style. Like one might expect. Its not horrile just not very noteworthy
We haven’t seen the full potential of the art style in SF4 though. At worst, SF5’s graphics are a solid improvement over its predecessor. At best is yet to be seen, but if Oni’s ultras were an indication we are up for a visual feast. I think we should reserve judgment.
you should remove the " bad taste " filter from your eyes before watching the trailer, just an advice
It’s true though SF4 has the ugliest art style of all the SF games.
I agree. This is two games of 3D in row, the game really needs a new art direction. 4D is where its at next

Tekken X Street Fighter is being developed by Namco, not Capcom.
I think TXSF has been postponed and will be released well after both SF5 and T7 are released, as to not saturate the market. We just had SFxT, it’s not necessary to do them back to back and repeat the mistake of the 90s.

I’m glad you posted pictures for reference. When I first saw the trailer, as well as many other people; instantly thought that the game resembles a 3D 3rd strike. I’m very happy with the art direction and I’m sure we’ll see the art style improve once we get closer to the actual release (similar to early sf4 -> retail vanilla sf4).
Plus, Chun Li is 1,000,000x Kreygasm again

“Just” had SFxT? It’s approaching 3 years now. SFxT was released in march of 2012, it’s Dec 2014 currently. I’d hardly call that recent.
I think the upcoming release of Tekken 7 and the fact Ultra SF4 was released this year are bigger contributors to the idea of over saturation. SFxT has been quite some time now.
Fighting games have high replay value and are constantly updated, like all competitive games. 2 years is nothing for a game intended to be played for 5+ years.
This is why it is good to wait many years between each installment, otherwise companies will be competing with themselves.
But in light of the news of SF5, I think this newest SF4 is completely unnecessary and does lend itself to oversaturation. T7 not so much because it is different enough from SF.
