NEW game NEEDS different art direction? Maybe?

The problem with SF4’s art style is that it is trying to make sprite designs from SF3 work is 3d space leading to really fucked up anatomy. Looking at Ryu, his shoulders are far to wide and his pecs are half a foot apart from each other. They’ve fixed the pec issue in his early SF5 model but he’s still inhumanly stocky. Dudley also has an incredibly shitty model where his ribcage points out from his neck at a 45 degree angle; he’s got fucking bone tits. There are tonnes of really bad examples of anatomical design is SF4 from characters like Abel and E. Honda for more just off the top of my head.

MvC3’s Ryu is more based on his SF2 model and has a much better proportioned body than the Frankenstein monster that is SF4 Ryu.

People saying these games look the same, I mean, come on. You’re being willfully blind.

The Chun screenshot looks fucking incredible. In my opinion, the art style is spot on. Cell shaded but next gen at the same time, looks amazing. Really, that Chun shot is just wow.

i’ll go with Eternal’s genius idea of a complete Sumi-e ink brush art style with bright deep vivid colors ala just like Okami.

I would play SFV for that reason alone. Just to look at its stunningly beautiful art style in complete awe and amazement…just like my reaction to Okami when I first played it.

but, most of you brutes have no taste whatsoever so SFV is doomed to repeat SFIV’s ugly ass polygons and character designs.

That Chun screen looks incredible, you’re on crack dude.

Is it weird I agree with BOTH views? I think that screen shot of Chun Li looks great, it also looks the least like SF4 of all of the stuff shown. The water effect and her different face / better hands / darker lighting are very prevalent in that image. That picture does the best job showing the improvements in SFV over SF4 while other stuff actually highlights the similarities more.

Personally I think they did a better job on improving Chun than they did on Ryu but I still think Chun’s proportions are weirder than Ryu’s. Just a small increase in her head size and a small decrease in thigh size (or increase her torso and arms a bit more. Her thighs are like 2.5x her arms and each thigh is bigger than her waist.) I think it bugs me because Ryu is like all over weird while Chun only has these couple things really weird and the rest is kind of like an idealized version of realism.

Only thing I think is wrong with Ryu is he looks a little toi dark and his idle anination has his fist to close top his face causing half of his face to not be visible. I think going with his 3S pose where his arms are significantly lower than his SF4/SF5 incarnation would be the best thing to do. IMO it would be a great decision because it would increase the 3S bone, while also making Ryu look better.

But yeah, I kinda wish the leap from SF4 to SF5 was bigger, but after rewatching the gameplay trailer and loking at some stills, I realized that the improvement is pretty significant.

The game looks pretty fucking incredible (especially the stage) and it is only going to get better.

But Chun wouldn’t be Chun without dem thighs.

Capcom likes giving their female characters big legs but no ass. What’s that about?

Capcom=Japanese
Japanese chicks=no ass

Remove the water special effect and its plain and mediocre. its one still of an in-game occurrence that’ll probably last 3 seconds on the screen when activated…and probably be activated maybe once per round.
Its not all that like people are trying to make it out to be.
Also, her frown line makes her look older. Which I don’t like. I mean, ok, so she is older storyline in the game but don’t give her middle aged woman frown lines now.
the one thing I’ve always liked about SFIV was the modeling of the female faces, which I thought to be superb. Especially Chun and Cammy, which I thought made them to look stunningly beautiful.
Chun’s face here isn’t ugly but that frown line makes her look…middle aged.

All I will say is that Denjin Hadoken is the sickest shit in 3s, it’s brand took a dive a bit when SF4 had Gouken use a shitty shinku hadoken that wall bounces and called it a denjin.

If in SFV the Denjin is just his shinkuu hadoken then Capcom will have succeeded in making another facet of Street Fighter lame as fuck.

I wish the last hit of Goukens Denjin wad unblockable and did like 500 stun. Imagine the setups with that…

But yeah Japanesr developers never make their characters have nice asses, probably because they themselves are used to seeing Japanese girls with no ass. If and when you find a Japanese girl with a nice ass, then you better wife the bitch up asap.

Yeah Gouken’s “Denjin” does have that Stun factor, IF it hits. It’s so stupid. I’ll try to find that youtube clip where everyone in the room just gives out a defeated sigh at whatever videogame convention they were letting people see gouken’s Ultra 2 for the first time.

Found it! Motherfucker unlisted it from youtube,

While disheartening that Street Fighter females have no ass but I like the fact their female characters have muscular and atheistic builds and are not merely super models who happen to fight.

Ryu 3S Denjin > Gouken IV Denjin

Vanilla was released 6 years ago in arcades. The console versions came out in 2009. It’s actually not THAT old considering the steady revisions.

I’m all for SF5 but I want them to take their time and remember some of the lessons they learned when designing SFIV. The last thing I want is a prettier SFIV. Partly becaise I despise that game, but also because I know they can do better.

I’m cautiously optimistic.

it’s growing on me, actually game footage seems to look better than SFIV. Somehow the Characaters look more skinny than before

on the cut scenes characters look hulky but on the gameplay not as much

however snk once again will show capcom how it’s done when kof IV finally launches in 2018

and another thing, idk why developers do this but every time devs use 3D polygons for fighters they always want to add ground bounces.
Which leads to juggle. Yeah I know there are juggle properties & moves in 4 and all…but I worry about it getting exploited here in 5.
from what we saw Chun just did 1 hit on Ryu’s ground bounce which is reasonable but what I really worry about is wall bounces.

I mean I like KOF MI series, and all the other 3D fighters like DOA, VF, SC, and Tekken and all. but one thing I’ve always despised about these 3D fighters are the wall & ground bounces. Sure we didn’t see any wall bounces in the trailer, but then again Ryu went through a breakable wall/door so…I hope there aren’t any abusable wall bounces in the game.
lol, i’ll never understand ground bounces in 3D games.
Are human bodies made of rubber? To bounce off the ground like they do in 3D fighters? i’ll never understand why developers wanna insert that gimmick in 3D fighters.
People don’t bounce off the ground in real life. Unless its the WWE lol.

Anime physics? These things always struck me as the developers having watched one too many shonen anime episodes.

No one said not tomake her thick but there is a difference between a girl thick thighs like this:
