New Fei video thread for Super

The only thing I outstandlingly noticed is that when you got a focus crumple you did standing fierce x ex.rekka. if you’re gonna burn meter for a punish, just go for ex flamekick. Does a lot more damage than ex rekkas. (200).

ive opted for ex rekkas instead of ex flamekick off the hp before, im not sure what it is, but sometimes the ex flame kick will hit with the first hit and none of the others.

These may be reposts? I’m not sure. It’s Mago.

You should be able to get all 3 hits of EX flamekick off st.fierce xx ex flamekick off of a focus crumple. You do have a little bit of time to walk forwards a step or two before you standing fierce if it wasn’t a very deep focus crumple.

ex. rekkas don’t do enough damage imo to justify doing them in a combo, if you’re punishing and they’re too far for all hits of ex flamekick, just do regular fierce rekkas, instead.

There’s one instance where EX Rekkas may be a good choice and that’s to beat Focus Attacks. If you’ll notice, scaling is eliminated as only two of the three hits register as a combo. In addition, you get to score the counter-hit from breaking Focus, giving you more than 200 damage – a good bang for your buck when you also consider the increased speed of the first Rekka. If your opponent likes to threaten you with Focus outside of your flame kick range, charge forward with EX Rekkas. The gap in between strikes is pretty small if you do them fast enough, though an early release could cause you to eat a Lv1 counter-hit.

Mago is definitively getting very good. More frame traps, better use of backdash, nice mixed up combos (cl.mp, cr.lp xx rekkas, cr.mp -> cr.lp xx rekkas etc…).More hit confirms with lights after HK CW is nice too. Could use more overheads though, especially vs this turtle boxer, and less CW all around. Keep the good work Mago!

Those videos are older than the ones I posted on the previous page.

Somewhere in those videos Gootecks asks if Mago is maining Fei now, he answers “yes” and Gootecks asks “why? Because Sagat is weak now?”. Mago then says “He’s not weak, but […]”. Wish I could understand the rest of it =/

I have absolutely no idea what he says, but my guess is that Fei Long has gotten better and now he can play him competitively in Super, which maybe wasn’t very easy in Vanilla???

THey said the console characters were in the “ice age” in the sense that they need more labwork with them. Mago likes Fei Long, thinks he’s good, and is gonna put effort into him to see what he can find.

mago said fei is top tier. we covered this a while back. i think theres a thread about it here somewhere

Yet another finals of me vs slick rick’s honda. I tried being offensive this time instead of turtling.

I would post losers finals but it was just goofy. Some guy trying to counter pick me with characters he doesn’t know how to play lol.

good stuff samurai. @ 4:02 was clutch
ur offense was good, just felt you needed to change the pace at times. How does st.hp fair as a poke against this match-up? i find it effective using it in lp rekka range.

Thanks. I don’t really like st.HP too much in this match over cr.MP since they’re both about the same. If I use st.HP I like to do it at max range but it loses to Honda’s cr.LP so I generally don’t do it since I was getting cr.LPed a lot.

Fun fact about cr.LP btw, his hand has no hittable box so you can’t stick stuff into it hoping to beat it out. Gotta aim for Honda’s body unfortunately. Trouble with doing stuff at max range in this fight is that st.HP moves his hitbox back so if you try to max space your stuff, st.HP will avoid it and hit you, which is also super cancelable. I think there was an example in this video where he did st.HP buffered into super and I lost about 50-60%.

But yeah I see what you’re saying about the pacing. I kinda felt like I lose that match when I try to space it out so I wanted to go at it with rush down. Really having trouble figuring out how to attack that match with his Honda.

Godlike execution, but in the end again rushdown didn’t pay off against Honda.

That’s why I turtle in this matchup (another reason being my execution isn’t on your level…).

Samurai, how on earth did you flame kick fadc on reaction like that? Holy smokes! You’ve definitely played this matchup a lot.

Lol, I don’t think he did it “on reaction.” Thing about Flame Kick FADC is that you can stick it out during a lull in the battle and still be safe from most characters; the Flame Kick and FADC are programmed together, not really something you “react” to. If Honda didn’t stick out an attack, Sam would’ve just dashed in for pressure or out to be safe. Either way, it was a calculated risk and one that really paid off. As for the Flame Kick against a Headbutt, that’s just a matter of practice–easy to do if you’re already walking backwards and have a solid distance from Honda to begin with.

Samurai: Just some constructive critique–I don’t think MK CW has a place in this match, especially when Honda gets EX Meter since his headbutt beats everything except blocking and jumping. This is one fight where the 50-50 isn’t in your favor, and you definitely put yourself in a lot of those situations. Many times after you got into a 50-50 you also attempted some move instead of baiting the Headbutt.

Solid Tenshin setups for one of the rounds, but your pressure could use more Rekkas in between Honda’s heavier normals.

Actually that was reaction… why would I flame kick FADC from full screen? I was expecting him to EX headbutt to chip me out so I was waiting for the yellow flash. I had just drank an energy drink so that might have affected my reaction time lol.

Nosone: It depends on what he’s doing but he knows I want to rekka after blocking stuff so things like where I tried to rekka after hands or st.HP, he would LP headbutt me if I did it too much. You really have to be careful with rekkas against honda since they lose to Honda’s cr.LP and never seem to punish it unless unless he throws the jab out after you’ve already started rekkas for a bit. I do agree that going for mixups didn’t work though, I was sort of experimenting here. It just seems like nothing works in this matchup, even turtling >_<

Rekkas IMO are best used for stopping forward momentum. You can’t really react to them so if you watch a persons movements you can often peck at them as they try to inch forward with rekkas and get hits, I do this vs Zangeif a lot. You have to observe their timing and when they try to move forward and then strike with that timing. Doesn’t always work but you’ll get hits more often than not.

btw Nyo do you ever play with a Balrog player named Aaron up there? He came back down to NC for one of our gatherings and I was talking to him about players up there and asked about Fei’s and I THINK he may have mentioned you. I forget though. His Balrog is really good though, helped me learn that matchup a lot.

I meant the FADC portion of it. I assumed Nyo thought you saw the Flame Kick hit and tapped on FADC afterwards, but I understand that there’s a point where after you hit with a Flame Kick, the FADC just comes naturally and isn’t so much of a “reaction” but more of a preprogrammed rhythm. The Flame Kick itself was clutch though

True, it is dangerous when the Honda is trigger happy with cr.LP, but I don’t mean hitting the Rekka after blocking a move. Blocking narrows your advantage because you’re trapped in block stun; in the case of “reversaling” Honda’s hands you don’t even have an advantage there because he has + frames on block for all versions. The only normal that you can reversal properly with Honda is really his st.HK.

Instead of that though, I meant to watch for when he tries to zone you out with a whiffed st.HP or something like that, and return pressure/play footsies after it whiffs. You get a larger cushion for action since there’s no blockstun to hold you back. If he goes for an immediate Headbutt hoping to catch your Rekka/cr.HP/etc. in motion, there’s no guarantee that you won’t be blocking instead. It’s like a ranged 50-50 almost, but there’s a better margin for safety since he’s out of his offensive pressure range.

Yea I use that for Gief as well. That’s kinda like what I’m talking about, except instead of watching the opponent move forward an inch, you just watch for a big move and launch to respond. More often than not, the opponent tries to block it rather than counter it with an invincible move.
