New Fei video thread for Super

Oh haha yeah, st.HP is pretty whiff punishable. He didn’t do it a whole lot though, when we played in winners finals I whiff punished it with ultra so he stopped pressing the button so much. But I get what you are saying. It’s a lot of stuff to focus on though in one match ie: whiff punish st.HP with rekkas / watch for a jump and flame kick but make sure he pressed a button if he jumps from further away / stay out of cr.LP range / look for st.HK to punish with rekkas / watch for headbutts and make sure to be standing when they happen / watch for butt slam to focus / don’t let him sneak a dash into ultra / command grab so be quick with cr.MP.

Honda is a sneaky bastard. Sometimes you just happen to be looking for the wrong things when he does something and you end up not reacting in time.

Lol keep chugging those Red Bulls

I’d take out the Flame Kick thing you mentioned and replace that with st.HK though. I think st.HK really suits the range that you want to play to when you’re up against Honda (outside of his st.HP range). It’s actually my preferred anti-air since there’s less timing involved thanks to its wide reach.

That doesn’t lose to some of his jumping attacks? I’ma have to get off Blazblue and test but I’m thinking if he throws an attack earlier it might be it. But hey if it works, that solves a big problem right there.

If it’s a particularly early swipe, it could beat the st.HK; sometimes it trades. This will happen most often when he jumps up and just swipes at air (not making contact) hoping to catch something-- if you try to do st.HK to counter that you’ll either trade or lose.

The real money is when he’s just a bit off from being able to make contact with an aerial, so he hesitates until his body floats closer–you can launch before he gets that close so you stuff whatever he’s trying before it comes out. Flame Kick kinda forces you to wait for that moment when the attack is already out so you can catch the limb using invincibility. That just makes it tougher IMO.

I like to hover at the range where I can flame kick even if he doesn’t stick something out, there’s a certain height where flame kick will beat everything and even if he empty jumps it’ll hit him but lurking at that range vs Honda is a bad idea so I actually may work on your suggestion.

Rewatching the video, I wonder how effective tenshin would be in this matchup? I could force honda to have to jump or headbutt in mixup situations after cross ups and then I could start anti airing him. It might be a good way to force punishment situations, although probably a bit risky. If you land the crossup though, he’s lost his charge, so actually headbutt might not even be a threat in that situation.

Me(fei) vs. Daj12whowantit(guile)

Watch the whole video… after talking to people I was like “man that last match was pretty clutch…” and all I hear is HUH!?! so do me the favor at least and watch the whole 6 mins of video… or at least skip ahead…

It was back and forth, we played about 10 matches. Very aggressive guile and knew how to punish rekkas (which was a first for me)

any and all critique would be appreciated! thanks!

Biggest tips would be not to rekka while he has a down charge. Guile can flash kick (as you saw) any blocked rekkas, including the first hit, even if you space it correctly. So watch his charges. You were patient, and that is good, but you also didn’t do much to pressure him into the corner, where the fight gets easier. So I would say advance forward more and stay on top of him when you do get past his zoning. Also don’t let him jump. You almost never anti aired him, but flame kick should be easy to deter his approach. So, practice reacting quickly with flame kick and don’t rekka when he has a down charge and you should have an easier time winning, I think.

Awesome, thanks! Yea I was totally not ready for the flash kick punishes lol, and I totally hear you on the anti-air, I’m working on that.

Ok, some interesting new vids:

ECL European Console League 2010 - SSF4 - GRAND FINALS - Ryan Hart (Ryu) Vs Starnab (Fei Long) (2/3)

Dommage Starnab, bien joué tout de même! Don’t try to translate this, as it will spoil you the result!
Hmm reversal super to punish blocked mp rekka x1 ([media=youtube]N8b8AcOQWsg#t=0m50s"]here and [)? so sick! On a side note the more I play vs ryu the more I think to stick using U2, and work on frame traps after blocked rekkas… Being non safe jump-able and beat those cross up tatsus is nice too

That was a good match but I think Starnab should have been a little more patient towards the end. He seemed to be getting impatient in the final two matches. Well played from both of them though. Ryu is a really hard match for Fei when played correctly. I feel like starnab should have used more CW in the corner as well as possibly even flame kicking more in pressure. Maybe that’s not his style but I saw a lot of opportunities where he had 2 bars and could have gone for it in a mix up but didn’t. Really though, tough fight. EX CW doesn’t really work from outside the range of the first kick in this match, usually. Really have to be careful with it. If you wanna be psychic you’re better off jumping.

The blocked st.HP to HK CW is a corner only thing. CW crosses most characters crouching up in the corner, that’s why I abuse the hell out of it there. People can low profile it with stuff but it’s possible the st.HP prevents the low profile. The great thing is you can combo off of it when it hits.

Good shit on second though, Starnab.

gotta jump at ryu with fierce or rh. fierce in patrticular gets traded with everything but his ex in your favor 9/10 times. but i know how it is, jump in mp just feels right

even so, if the ryu player plays lame, this match gets so damned tedious. only thing i could think to do different was on his punnishes for rekka x2 with low foward fireball from max range, starnab should have tried some more reversal ex CW. he did it when they were playing footsies, but opted to block if ryan was punnishing rekkas

Good shit, I really like that you are very consistent with your CW to st. HP to flame kick. I play this matchup almost every night because my brother mains Guile, we usually go first to ten wins just for hahas and although we are not tournament player material I would say we are pretty decent. The only thing I can contribute to this would be although all your CW’s in that video were good and smart ones if he can catch on to it he can do some real damage to you. He can actually stuff that with standing fierce, bait you with a sonic boom and then air throw you, and even ultra. What my point is just be careful with the CW’s and when you jump in try to use jumping medium punch because my brother is one of those guiles that uses down fierce as ana anti-air and for some reason i have more chance going in with jumping medium punch than with jumping roundhouse. Just my 2 cents but overall you have a very good fei

Also EX tenshin is your friend

Yea I totally agree with you about the punishes of CW especially in a guile fight. The main reason I was doing them so much in this fight was because of the guiles want to walk up and throw me. almost all of the CW’s that connected were counters to a throw attempt, and the ones that didn’t were used to escape or try and be psychic and go through a sonic boom (I normally don’t do this, but he rarely went downback after a sonic boom) . And trust me if I was getting punished from doing CW’s I have no problem not doing them. But out of all of those CW’s I was only punished one time.
Also the jump mp’s are awesome I agree with you on that one! I usually use them for safe jumps or ex-tenshin setups. But the times I did jump which was only a hand full, I was simply to far away to do a mp unless I was going for a cross up. But again if there was any retaliation of my jump-ins/X-ups I would have either stopped jumping in or used mp to stuff him. Also I’m in agreement with ex-tenshin, its a great tool and should be used if you have time to set it up. But unfortunately with the aggressiveness of this particular guile I was on lock down most of the time, and trying to get ready for throws (which will toss you out of the start-up of tenshin) and blocking his strings, i’m also not a huge fan of naked tenshin set-ups. Ive been killed sooooo many times by trying that lol.

Thanks for the input, it’s always good to be reminded of the other options, keeps the mind fresh! Thanks again for taking your time to watch and much appreciated!

Excellent fei starnab. Tough matchup. Now I know the face that goes with the gamer videos!!

Is there a list of characters that Ultra 1 will connect with 3 hits off FADC? I feel it would greatly influence what Ultra I choose in the matchup.

Flamekick juggle or chicken wing juggle?

Chicken wing.

i believe the list is

1.honda
2.deejay

Well that’s…depressing!
